Joe Quesada ruined my Marriage!: The Spider-Man Thread

HOW DO I SHOT WEB?

I think the new movie is going to bomb honestly. Just a gut feeling from the tidbits of information on it so far, but it’s too early to really say. I liked the first 2. I nearly shit my pants in anger at the theatre when I saw 3. My only real qualm with the Toby was the complete lack of witty banter.

My only real qualm with Toby was that he was himself. And everything.

THIS ^

Tobey was a good peter parker, captured the nerdiness and the agnst.

He was a terrible Spider-man. He took everything way too seriously and had no witty banter.

The Spidey we know would be 2 seconds away from death, and crack a joke just because.

And that therein lies the problem. How to capture the geekiness while also catching the awesome quips and jokes. Josh Keaton is perfect in doing this.

I completely agree.

Tobey was great with what he was given. He had a few cracks every now and then (when he fought Bonesaw? Maybe that’s it lol) and he did them well. I would blame the script-writers for not giving him enough jokes.

I agree with this as well. Still it was not beyond Toby’s control to get some quips added in. They paid him like a bajillion dollars for each movie.

Yeah, as already said the lack of quips in the movies was the writer’s fault. Not Tobey’s. If anyone thinks that he can’t play a witty Spider-man then I suggest you play the movie games. He quips all the time in those.

I think there were some fights that were too serious and him quipping would be out of place and the suspense and tension would have been ruined. Such as the final fight with GG and the train fight with Doc Ock.

Here’s someone’s audition tape for the movie. Spider-Man reboot News - Reel Movie News

It wouldn’t have ruined the suspense and tension. Spidey has admitted numerous times in the comics his quips are his way of dealing with the fear and tension of a fight. It’s also a battle tactic to distract and emotionally charge his opponent.

That’s fine for the comics and cartoons, but him quipping all in time in a movie would be a bit too much. He can quip earlier in the movie like the first battle, but later on when things start getting more serious so should he. Spidey is a jokester, but he’s not Deadpool.

First battle with the villain - Quips can be said nonstop.

Second battle with the villain - A few quips here and there, but only if it’s appropriate.

Final battle with the villain - NO quips at all. This is the most serious battle. He needs to shut up and focus. If he is beaten up and the bad guy stands gloating over him, he can give him a sarcastic one liner. But constant one liners? No, that would be distracting.

Tobey was a perfect Spiderman. There was enough quips. Anymore would’ve robbed the film of any tension. Parker admitting to using quips as a means of nullifying this tension in the comics changes nothing. Save the witty banter for two bit thugs, save the genuine anger Maguire was able to convey for the main event.

Ya know what, I really liked spider-man 3. There, I said it. 1 & 2 are amazing films through and through, but 3 has enough to take from it to be a worthwhile experience imo.

There were good parts in 3. Sandman was awesome. I was like “That’s Billy Clanton from Tombstone!” which is probably my favorite movie, so I really liked him in SM3. Venom was an atrocity though. They really should have just left him out of it.

Emo Parker wasn’t a deal break to me, even with the awkward dancing down the street scene. It served a bit of humor and Peter was supposed to be a socially awkward nerdy kid so it wasn’t completely out of character.

Spider-Man 3 is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen.

Speaking of Spiderman in the mainstream, when I was a very young kid (probably 4,5,6, I’m not sure) around that late 80’s early 90s; apart from the Spiderman series running then, there was this re-run of a very old black&white Spiderman cartoon I caught randomly back then.
He was mad broken yo, his web could create anything. I think one time this dude use his web to create a getaway car for a person he had just saved so he could deal with the villain…

Why Spiderman 3 chose to dedicate screen time to dancing Emo Parker instead of developing at least one of the three villains is a mystery. Script writers wouldn’t know a cohesive narrative if it sucked them off. Let us never speak of that film again. Same goes for Joe Q and SSM.

It was.

I laughed really hard. Especially when Mary Jane broke up with him.
The movie had its “stupid lulz” moments, but man… my friends… swear that I cried at the end.

Tears from laughter =/= Tears from sadness

>:I

Yeah… let’s… add that in Marvel vs Capcom 3…

I remember an episode where he made a web motorboat. I don’t even think he moved his hand to show him forming it, he just aimed at the water, shot web, and then boom, a motorboat.
