Oh god yes. It’s my favorite shooter. I use it or a Happ stick. I have an LS-56 on order I also want to try. Here’s my Saturn controller thread.
Yeah, but this is the aspect ratio from the arcade. Here’s an entire post full of weirdos that do this.

lmao if i had a kid that did that lulz id be a little worried if i didnt see him playing a game.
Playing shmups on a tate setup is twelve kinds of sex.
Anybody know what is degaussing? I read it get rids up the color discoloration during tate display, but no idea how degauss works.
can you rotate a huge lcd like 42" lcd and it work fine?
Yes just as long as you have a secure mount that 360 rotates or the tvs stand is rotateable. Good the mounts there everywhere
Yay more views for my videos =)
And tate is the shit. I would I could make a swivel stand for my 22’’ LCD monitor
bah i just want to play starcraft on a 42" but thats a story for another day.
good vid
Damn, this is the way to go! IIyama Prolite B2409HDS. What a beauty! I don’t even play SHMUPS like I used to. (I never seen to improve)… but when I get a new monitor, I’ll probably be picking one of these up. HDMI inputs and all? Too easy a purchase for less than 300 bucks.
i don’t really understand why people keep saying you should play on an LS32 when playing shmups. I mean, i know there’s a difference between LS32 and JLF. i can definitely feel the difference, but i really don’t think it matters much.
The LS-32 does better with short little twitchy movements. It’s wild lurking the shmup forum. Everyone there uses Seimitsu in favor of Sanwa.
While I’m no hardcore shmupper, I have 2 LS-32 mounted in my cab and that does make a difference over the JLF. Dodging bullets with the LS-32 short throw/deadzone is such a pleasure.
The fact is that yes, you feel more in control while playing shmups with a LS32. In many cases, doing tiny diagonal movements with a JLF results in the lever “slipping” away in some undesired corner of the gate, because of the engage distance and lower spring tension. This of course doesn’t mean that shmups cannot be played properly with a JLF (actually I play mainly shmups and I have always used JLFs so far with decent results). However it doesn’t take too much time to appreciate that the LS32 is more suitable for shmups playing. Wether its features are purposely meant to make it a shmups-oriented stick it’s a question without answer, but 99% of japanese shmups arcade cabs are equipped with the LS32 (although I’ve seen some battle garegga and ikaruga cabs equipped with the sanwa sticks).
What game is this?
Mushihime-sama
The left one is Mushihimesama. The picture in the pc monitor is Ikaruga.
You can rotate an LCD yes. Better get a rotating wall mount though.
Most TVs have a degauss option in the service menu, and you can also buy a degaussing wand. You pass it across the screen to pull the discoloring out.
Tate setups are great.
For the average person, it doesn’t really matter.
But the people we’re talking about are getting through these games on one credit without continuing. The tiny difference you feel can make a world of difference when you’re talking about that kind of precision.
As someone who loves both SHMUPs and fighters, would you recommend a JLF or LS-32? It’s hard for me because I want the best of both worlds but I have to go with one or the other (maybe someday I can afford 2 separate customs…). I think I’ll have to go with the JLF because I’m a bit more serious about fighting games than SHMUPs which I’m more casual at (though I looove Touhou…). Another thing is I can’t stand that gate hopping on the LS32 I have and there doesn’t seem to be a mod to fix it.
One day I’m going to create a stick with a Sanwa JLF and a 6 button japanese layout, and then to the right of the buttons there’ll be a Seimitsu stick. The cord will come out of the side of the stick so you can flip the stick 180 degrees to play either genre. Most SHMUPs only use 2 or 3 buttons, so having the Weak Punch and Kick buttons in a weird position won’t matter much when using it in SHMUP mode.
God that stick would be pure sex.
