Okay, this is pretty messed up. I’m getting a lot of random challenges from people because they hear I have a good Jin. It’s like I’m playing RE5 with a friend and I get 5-6 invitation messages and some of these people I don’t even know in the first place. :looney:
There are always gaps in character pressure strings so for someone who is just learning the game I would recommend using barrier guard to push your opponent farther back forcing them to use riskier moves to get back in range. Anything that pushes them far out and requires them to run back in to reapply pressure can be countered with 623A/B/C/D though prefarably the C/D version as they have longer invincibilty frames than the B version (A Version has no invincibility). If you find yourself knocked down and they are running towards you based to quick tech and then C/D Fubuki but don’t get predictable as this can be baited and leave you in a CH state for a very bad punish.
On a higher level you’ll need to learn how to instant block certain parts of block strings as it gives you quicker recovery time and will let you sneak in a 623C/D in between attacks for a CH combo. For the time being though Barrier Guard and jump back when possible to get out of pressure.

I understand the feeling quite a bit despite being a 5-5 match up it can be incredibly tough to deal with when Litchi gets her corner oki going. It basically boils down to who can get their momentum going first and then who can bait the other’s DP out. Litchi’s Tsubame is one of the safer DP’s in the game and has a smaller window to punish in comparison to Jin/Ragna.
Congratulations, you are officially internet famous.
Anywho, watched the video of you playing. I suppose the obvious thing to point out is that the 5c, j.b combo does not work on Bang and Rachel, and you attempted it several times against that Bang. You probably already know that though, and just need to make sure it’s second nature not to do that during those matchups.
Yeah, that’s the funny part I do 5B, 5C, Sekkajin combo on Bang and Rachel all the time but from time to time I go brain dead and attempt to do j.B, j.C, j.D combo.
Anways, someone else recorded this match with me.

First time playing this person’s Litchi so I spent the first round trying to guage his habits as a Litchi player.
0:35 I try to bait a Tsubame but get thrown instead. Was trying to see if he was a Litchi that Tsubames on wake up. Guess wronged and should have option select guarded instead when trying to bait.
0:39 Very bad habit of IADing but even stranger at the angle of his descent missing j.B altogether but whatever. I froze when landed because that missed j.B threw off big time.
0:44 One of Litchi’s more common “tech traps” is that her 2C[M] needs to be barrier guarded or IB’d in the air. I should have tech recovered forward instead of backwards and this is a pretty common tactic for Litchi.
1:13 me being stupid and Ice Caring when I know I’m too far away for it to connect.
1:19 Risky Jin play but it pays off and I try to follow up with another Tsubame bait but he didn’t fall for it.
1:22 Didn’t want to throw 2C out and wanted a 5C did not expect 2C to hit and I didn’t hit confirm into Ice Car for the win. I whole heartedidly deserved that loss.
1:37 Tried to frame trap into 623B but it didn’t come out due to input delay so I panicked and somehow did 5D.
1:40 missed the meaty 5B and get Counter Thrown.
1:45 j.C doesn’t come out after j.B so I missed a good combo into reset opportunity.
1:47 I hit confirmed 5C but didn’t 6C when I should have and instead did 5D into C Ice Car but opponent bursted far too early.
1:59 I try to IB 3C[M] but screw up the timing and get hit into corner combo.
2:10 Block string into 6D is pretty good for frame traps but screwed this up due to input delays. I wanted 5B (1 hit), 6D, into rush down 5B.
2:13 Timed the throw a bit too late.
2:31 Bad IAD habits again.
2:41 Reset #1 j.A whiff after standard ground BnB into land 2B, 5C, 623B, 5C, 6C, 6D.
2:45 I mistime the IAD and hit them with j.B, j.A too soon costing me a 2nd reset option and I ate a combo instead. -_-
2:58 Ice Car Rapid Cancel trick #1 but input delays prevented me from dashing in with 5B so I missed another reset opportunity.
3:16 Was suppose to be IAD 236D but it came out as a super jump so I scrapped the 236D input and opted for j.B falling cross up.
3:21 Stupid move to try 236A, 2D block string as Litchi can Tsubame CH out but because of my spacing it won’t be a proper hit.
3:24 3C bait into 623B works this time and I get a standard air combo for the win.
Input delays really screwed me over in this match followed by lots of mistakes on my behalf prevented me from maximizing on opportunities. I had better matches with this person so I’m hoping the person who recorded these matches will post the rest up.
The only thing worth taking out of this video is my use of double jump j.B’s to zone and space myself against Litchi. Sometimes I don’t bother with j.B depending on my position because it’ll whiff or j.C[M] will CH me at that point. Otherwise a pretty poorly played match on my behalf.
Go to game chariots as a ton of Jin videos are posted there. Also, look up any videos of Buppa or Ren as you’ll get a broad range of Jin plays from those two. Buppa plays a more aggressive risk taking Jin and Ren overall plays a very solid Jin. Ren does do a lot of tricks of his own but I haven’t seen too many match vids where he does.
Man, I played against Kid Viper today (USA SBO qualifier) and I just got worked 4-1. I thought I knew a lot of tricks for Jin but Kid Viper’s got even more. I wish I could remember all of them but I’m going to have to review those replays to try to pick up on those tricks. Ended up hosting a room with Kid Viper and Heidern98 alongside other SRK and Dloop members. It was a beastly room to say the least with plenty of fun. Lots of tactics swapped and I need to do that again tomorrow.
Mirror’s don’t say much, imo. You can definitely tell he’s a better Jin player based on how he handles other match ups in the cast. How you handle the rest of the cast is a better testament to your skills than beating someone at the mirror. The mirror is very awkward in the first place so yeah…
I assume you mean a j.B, j.A (whiff) into reset options. It depends on how you set it up but if we take a look at my video post I typically set it up through 5B, 5C, j.B, j.C, j.D, land, 5C, j.B, j.A (whiff) or some iteration of that. After the j.A (whiff) you have these options:
land and throw - Not too hard to read but enough to catch people off guard. Try to do the 4/6 version as you want to push them towards the corner. Doing the 5 throw the typical follow up is A Ice Car (whiff) into combo but that puts you on the other side of the opponent losing that corner push. If you do 5 throw you can either go for damage or push for better position by just dashing in with 5C, 214B or go for another reset option of 6D as they are breaking out of the ice.
land, 2B - It hits low so opponent has to block low. If it hits and you are near the corner you can 5C, 623B, as they land you follow up with 5C, 6C, 6D combo. From this you can go for damage into oki set up through IAD j.B, j.C, dash 5B, 5C, 3C, 236C. You can go for 3 different resets off of 6D though. You can IAD j.B, j.A (whiff), land throw. If j.A hits though you’ll want to do j.C land and throw. You’ll hear Jin say something in regards to throwing out j.C but it won’t actually come out thus allowing you to get a green throw instead of a purple one. The other thing you can do off of 6D is to run up delay then either 6A overhead or 2B. Hit confirm with either and it leads back to a freeze combo into mix up resets yet again. The last thing you can do off of 6D is run up let them land 5B (2 hits) wait then throw the common combo to do off of a neutral throw is to throw (2 hits), 623B before the final hit of the throw, SJC j.C, j.D into a combo or mix up reset options again.
If they are not in the corner you can do a simple BnB like 5C, 2C, 214B or 3C, 2B (OTG), 5C, SJC j.B, j.C, j.C, j.D, 214C for a little over 2k dmg I think. If you want do more mix ups after 3C, 2B (OTG), 5C is to SJC j.B, j.C, j.D land then dash in with either 6D, 6A, or 2B. You could even dash and then empty jump into 2B as well.
IAD j.B - From here you can do j.C, land 5C, 6C, into a freeze combo that leads back into combo oki setup or reset options. You can j.A (whiff) after j.B, land and throw and we go back to the options in 2. If you want you can do IAD j.C instead of j.B and combo into j.D (it won’t combo if j.C is a CH) and do something else.
falling j.B - If your opponent wises up to the reset attempt and back dashes or jumps back you can opt to do a falling j.B immediately after j.A whiffs and force them into block stun into block string frame traps. If you hit confirm j.B you can land 5C, 6C back into options posted in 3.
As you can tell there is pattern here and Jin in the corner getting these mix ups and resets is utter rape sometimes. Your opponent guesses wrong and they eat a freeze combo back into a reset. This corner game isn’t as bad as Litchi’s but can be comparable sometimes.
hello all, i just started picking up the game again this past week. i’m having serious trouble with tager, wtf is up with that match up. he takes about 60% with one hit and 35% with another hit.
ive tried evading and being aggressive, both tactics get squashed. any tips ? i’m a decent jin player that knows his bnb but i also need some advice on what to do instead of the grab when you freeze them. thanks , much appreciated.
Alright new corner combo for people to play with. Picked this up from Kid Viper who picked it up during his time in Japan for SBO.
Any corner combo that goes into 5C, 6C, 6D that is under 6 hits. Opponent lands from 6D, 6C (brief delay), 236D (2 hits), 623A, 3rd hit of 236D, opponent lands, dash 5B (2 hits), 5C, 3C, 236C for oki. Depending on how you start this combo you are looking at about 4059 dmg. Otherwise on average it deals like 3.2-3.5k dmg. There are some characters that this combo doesn’t work on like Tager but it works on the majority of the cast.
It’s a high damage corner combo that gives oki and reset capabilities and is better than other Jin corner combos. Should be the new staple corner combo for Jin players now. It’s a flashy combo that is practical as well. To explain how it works you A Fubuki your opponent between the 2nd and 3rd hit of 236D which knocks them out of freeze but then the 3rd hit of 236D hits them and they get frozen again allowing you to land and go for oki, reset, or set ups into frame traps.
Some examples of starting the combo is CH 5C, 6C, 6D or CH 623D, 5C, 6C, 6D. Basically, it’s a variation of other Jin combos
