Jill fell out of a window. The Chris Redfield Teammates discussion thread

I’m currently rolling a Chris/Deadpool/Taskmaster team, with Chris using Grenade Toss as his assist. Deadpool I find to be a solid teammate for Chris in general, with Trigger Happy letting you combo from otg cr.H as well as being an AA, Happy Trigger being able to DHC pretty much everything, not to mention he can zone well himself. Taskmaster’s up arrows can be used like Doom missiles, though it’s not as good. However, his j.H and st.M can stuff Sent’s armor, Legion Arrow is also a good DHC move, and he also has zoning capabilities backed by Chris’s mines.

I currently use magnus/sent/dante, but am thinking about chris/mag/sent or even chris/mag/hulk once sent gets patched

Chris does a lot of damage and is a great battery so I can get a magneto loop into lvl3 to flat out kill opponents - sent is sent and without him the armor on hulks charge set up lots of stuff

So despite what my last post here said about how much I love Hidden Missiles, I’m thinking I’ll try swapping in the rocks for my Doom assist for a few matches when I get home. Thoughts from people who’ve tried both with Chris?

I’m using Viewtiful Joe / Amaterasu / Chris at the moment.

When Chris is on point, Joe’s Groovy Uppercut is a decent anti-air assist than can help with his keepaway. Amaterasu’s Cold Star is good for locking down and allow Chris to either move in or get out and set up a wall of defense with his grenades and gun fire.

I use Chris/many chars/doom mostly Hulk or Storm as my second. They are both really good assists as your probably know but i switch between them depending on my 2nd char. If pick someone with a good anti-pressure assist (for example Hulks AA), Then i go missile’s. If my second guy does not have a good anti-pressure ill go rocks.

Now for my own question.

You think Chris/Morrigan/Doom would work well, or should I try Morrigan last so she comes in with the highest possible meter? Also what assist would you pick for her? Do you think I could get away with her ultra meter charge and just rely on Dooms rocks?

Chris/Storm/Haggar = Corner Rape if done right.

I had a 25-game session on Ranked Match tonight with Chris (?) on point, Deadpool (?) and Doom (?). I?m not one to play online very much, as the scene here in SoCal is as vibrant as ever, but I needed some immediate practice, as well as to get accustomed to latency in preparation for online tournaments.

I went 22-3. Two of my losses came from, I guess, getting a feel for flowchart MvC3 players. The other loss was very legitimate; I dropped a crucial combo or two and made some risks I shouldn?t have made. The rest of my matches were utter dominance, though. In one match I did the following combo on full-health Sentinel, which made that player to rage quit during Chris’ win pose:

c.L-c.M-s.H-forward+H-S, sj.M-M-H-S, land, X-Factor (level 1), jump, Air Magnum, land, forwardH-S, sj.M-M-H-S, land, Assist 1 (Deadpool?s Katana-Rama), d.H xx Bolder Punch H xx Level 3.

It’s basically tragic’s combo, which I use as my bread-and-butter to put the opponent in the corner no matter where I start the combo from.

I haven’t stumbled upon anything ground breaking with this configuration (yet) besides being three solid characters that can hold there own under most situations. I gave up on the notion of having an anti-air assist (Hidden Missile, Shadow Blade, Shoryuken), partly because they don’t function the same way they did in MvC2, but also due to most aggressive characters getting in at angles I feel Chris is equipped to handle any way.

I like ending Doom’s loop combo with Air Photon Array and DHC-ing into Sweep Combo, which fully connects. I’m also learning how to seemingly perform team aerial combos in such a way that I always get fat damage out of it, regardless of team order. This is hard on Chris, and especially in this team, as he can’t feasibly land his hyper combos off TACs unless paired up with the right assist.

The only noteworthy thing is the coupling of Doom’s Plasma Beam assist with Chris, as well utilizing Katana-Rama assist for OTG setups?but you guys knew that already. It’s mentioned in the official strategy guide, but I wanted to emphasis the necessity of a projectile-like assist, or some way of covering your attacks filled with negative frame advantage should your opponent block. As much as Chris prefers keep away, sometimes you have to get in there, and you need to do so in the safest possible way. Doom’s projectile assist helps me do that for the most part. Against smaller character like Ammy, I have to change my string of attacks because she’ll go under Plasma Beam.

I’m using Dante (JS), C.Viper (Seismo) and Chris (Gun Fire). The main point is Chris firing from behind to give the others time to approach the enemy. Any strategy I should be looking for besides this one?

Chris (Combination Punch) / Trish (Hopscotch) / Hulk (Gamma Wave)

I have been running this for a few days, and I like the way the team meshes together. The Hopscotch assist works great as a backup for Chris when zoning your foe (it even works as a ghetto AA and an anti-triangle jump). Combined with your Land Mines, it can make Chris hard to approach. Gamma Wave assist is great for two reasons - firstly it provides easy combo extension for Chris when combined with his cr. H, and secondly it allows Chris to fight back much more effectively in projectile wars because Wave eats so many things.
When Trish is on point, she dosen’t need Chris’ Land Mines or Hulk’s AA because she provides those herself, but Combination Punch is a great “get off of me” move that will keep attackers away and stuck on the far side of the screen. Gamma Wave also works for this purpose but has a longer startup and is generally used when your opponent is already at mid or full screen. She can also use Gamma Wave for OTG combo extensions.
Hulk speaks for himself - he is the meter burner for this team and allows for some absolutely crazy DHC from Chris or Trish setups. Hulk greatly benefits from Hopscotch as well as against certain characters “spamming” Gamma Wave is very effective, and the Hopscotch will always be waiting for anyone trying to jump over to get at you.

Maybe not the best team, but the synergy is high and it is fun to play.

Please explain for a run a very similar team.

I’m actually considering adding Chris as my 3rd for my Wolverine (Berserker barrage) and Hulk (AA charge), what assist would you recommend for Chris? I was thinking Machine Gun.

I’m looking for some help choosing a third character for my team. I’m using Chris(obviously) and Chun-li. Not sure who the 3rd character should be. I’d like to avoid Sentinel, Dr. Doom, Magneto, characters like that. I have a hard time using them.

@Speedwagon: I would actually advise using the mine assist, should probably help set up some good corner pressure. But test around with all 3 of his assist and see whats up.

@Denoku: Run storm/akuma/tron bonne. You can use akumas overhead assist to set up some nice unblockables with chun-li and maybe even chris, or you could use his hurricane kick to further help chris zone. Storm, I just really like her and am recommending her to anyone who asks, but with that said I do think she meshes well with chris, her lightning attack can be used as a decent AAA, or her whirlwind to help him zone some more and push people out after a push block. Plus from certain distances ice storm actually DHC’s into sweep combo, although I think its corner only and to top it all off you can run her/chris/chun in all white and look like a total bad ass in the process.

Finally T bonne, that flame assist bro, its too damn good. Like u don’t even know, plus she acts like a good battery cause she can easily get off 2 hypers in one combo for very nice damage. But ill put her in the team mainly for that flame assist bro, shit is toooooooo good. And she too can color co-ordinate very well with chris n chun, because color co-ordination is half the battle my friend.

Thanks for the help dude! I’ll give those a shot. I never used Storm before. So I’m liking Chris the more I play with him. I still have trouble pulling off the air shot with the magnum though.

Yeah, that’s why I asked, all 3 of his assists seem really good.

Currently running Chris(b), Doom(b), Haggar(a). Loving the Lariat assist to get out of pressure + guaranteed hit-confirm combo (although I whiff it a lot online, lag and whatnot). Once people start crouch-blocking Haggar assist the matchup becomes a little harder, and Doom missles don’t track forward dashers if they’re fast enough. Thus I’m looking for some new partners for Chris the provide ground coverage and/or switching up Doom’s assist to Molecular Shield. Any other assists that cover the ground pretty well?

I’m also considering Sentinel drones, but only as a last resort. I honestly don’t care for easy mode at the moment.

I’m dropping wesker. I can’t do his combos online with the crappy university internet i have. Input lag is very annoying. Looking for a meter burner as my second character. I have chris on point, and haggar as third for epic level 3 x factor pipe ownage.

Don’t even mention sent. I’ll never stoop that low. Would dorm work. I’m really interested in using him.

Dorm is good if you wanna play Chris on point since his assists lock down well and he can DHC pretty much anything. I personally feel Trish is more versatile, but I think she works better if she’s the one on point.

Don’t really like trish . I think dorm will suffice

I still can’t decide on a 3rd. I tried Storm and Tron and don’t really like either. I’m not that good at this game and using them wouldn’t really let me have a strong team. I’m actually getting decent(sort of) with Chris. I only have missions 7 and 10 left. I’m starting to get a hang of the air magnum. Now it’s adding onto it. I don’t really like Dormmau or Dr. Doom. How about Dante? He is the only other character I can really play with and not suck.
