Japanese vs americans?

Right, but you’re gonna need a hell of a lot more than a few players if you want your country to be good at a game. America has legions of Marvel players. Japan does not.

its so funny how SF games and VS games are in a parallel dimension when it comes to comp. we fear their legions of 3s and cvs2 players and only have a few that can stand a chance aganist their best while their best can be elim’d by a few of our top 20-30 players over here in marvel.

go figureeeeee…japan doesnt have a large marvel fanbase like america does. i wonder if jwong is practicing more for 3s or for mvc2…

  1. I didn’t pay attention to the “3” in the title. When making sense of posts that use net slang, misspell words, and leave out punctuation, it’s pretty easy to skip over certain details.

  2. The point still stands.

My two cents: there just isn’t as much to Marvel. If you like traditional fighting games, which most Japanese players do, the Vs. series simply gets boring after a while. People tend not to stick with games that bore them long enough to get really good at them.

Japan took Marvel seriously in its first year. There were threads oin srk where White and others would comment on the scene there, and US feared JKapan real bad back then, AFAIK. Japan plays anything for a year *CFJ anyone?) but gets rid of almost all the old games on thier main tournament after this.

In 2000, MvC2 was another game played in Japan, which is enough today to make they the best at DR, Slash and any new games. However, practically every US player played MvC2 hardcore back then. For the first time ever, US developed a stonerg community for a specific game. At US vs Japan, MvC2 was the main game, and US won 23-2 or something. AAfter that, MvC2 got out of the mainstream in Jpana, to be played only by Takayuki, Mitsu and some other who got deeper into the game. US retired Japan from Marvel!!!

The difference, for good or bad, is that when US destroyed Japan, they gave up. When Japan destroyed US (every other game) US keeps trying. Maybe there’s hope after all.

Japan just won Tekken 5:DR major tourney in US!

I kinda agree with you but: didn´t Ricky Ortiz ALMOST won the CvS2 tournament at Evo 2004?
At least in CvS2 I don´t think that Japanese players are so much better than anyone in the world because: I think that soon or latter they will lose against some of the best Top USA CvS2 Players, and that almost happen in Evo 2004…
In CvS2 both Japanese and USA are kinda balanced and since CvS2 has many godly players… maybe it´s kust a question of time untill some US players get´s first at Evo…

Don´t you think?

Nice, so sad that we won’t see DR for Evo, but wow, Shou eating everyone up with Devil Jin, lol, way to hold back your true power during casuals and unleashing hell during the tournament. You forgot to post up Phat Viet Boi placing 9th also with Kuma, and Marduk, that to me deserves mad reps. So after this, I take it that Japan>US when it comes to DR.

As for the topic, overall Japan>USA for now at least, I would hope that somehow our community would get bigger and better, and with that, I believe it won’t be too long before we can take them on in equal footing in the majority of the fighting games, for me, it’s always US ftw.

I see alot of Paul players placing high. Maybe I should start back playin him.

omg insanelee w/ganryu

almost? as in, didnt win? he lost, and we’ve never beat them out in 3s or cvs2, and ggxx. have we come moderately close in cvs2, eh yeah. but it dont matter, a loss is a loss no matter how close. 3s they are still light years ahead/

oh and for the guy that said vampire savior had infinites, know what you are talking about please. bb hood is the only character and i dont think its a true infinite, and its damn hard to do more than a couple reps…

Japan wins team tourney too~

1st - Team JPN - Mishimastar(Heihachi), Yuu(Feng), Shou(Devil Jin)
2nd - Team ARARIO - JinKid(Devil Jin), DevilX(Bryan), Arario(Paul/Jack-5)
3rd - Team NORCAL - insanelee(Ganryu), Mr. NAPS(Bryan), k30(King)
4th - Team SDT #1 - AlexMan(Devil Jin), USMCOgre(Paul), tensaikun(Hwoarang)
5th - Team SOCAL - chetchetty(Paul), Rip(Law), FilthyRich(Heihachi)

I think top US players are more than moderately close in cvs2, in 2004 Kindevu won at the finals by a very close match vs Ortiz, in that year we saw Ortiz playing with a Vega that was a beast on his hands O_O

on a side note Sabre: someone said that before Evo 2002 the US players beat the Japanese players in CvS2 (before the RC was found)
So I wonder: does the Japanese players can be still that good at CvS2 without RC? some people already said that US players smashed the Japanese players before the RC was found.

I know that this might sound stupid…

i thought korea or something was good at t5 also? i think i read something about that

i’m most likely wrong though

anyways, japan is better than america because look at all the damn arcades there… it’s easier to get better.

more people would just use K groove

the japanese beats up north america in video games. has always, always will. deal with it or move there. EOS.

EOS = end of story.

They are fucking good. I think they have still the best players in the world.

Leedy, Qudans, Nin, maddogjin = all hardcore players and very popular in the tekken-scene.

Sure! Just download some Ino footage and see him ownin everyone with K-groove!

I think the two T5 Dark resurrection teams that Korea sent to Japan got knocked out first round.

Most of what you say is true, however MvC2 was never Japan’s main game. Back in 2000, (MvC2’s most popular year in Japan), people who played MvC2 in Japan also played 3rd strike. However people who played 3rd strike in Japan, didn’t necesarily play MvC2.

There was definitely an MvC2 scene in Japan back in 2000, but not as big as 3rd strike. However I’d still say that even if MvC2 was Japan’s #1 game, US would still have won that portion of the tournament.

Currently, the MvC2 scene in Japan is equivalent to the VF5 scene in America. It’s pretty much dead.

Yeah, but they’re still nothing to sneeze at.
