To all the members who have used both Japanese and Korean joysticks I am wondering how does it feel compare to one another. I am aware of the hardware difference, one uses a spring while the other uses some sort of rubber, etc.
General consensus is that Korean sticks are extremely good for directional inputs. A lot of 3d fighting game players love Korean sticks since they give a much more solid and tactile feel towards tapped inputs.
But a lot of people don’t like it for SF-style games that require a lot of transitional motions like quarter-circles, half-circles, and DP motions, since the rubber grommet tends to LOCK in those motions, which makes it feel like it’s resisting against smooth motions. Many people prefer Japanese sticks for these types of motions.
Ultimately, as usual, it all comes down to personal preference.
I use crown cwj 303n and they’re godlike on SF for me. I have NO issues pulling off “quarter-circles, half-circles, and DP motions”. If anything, I pull them off better on K-sticks than I ever could on J-sticks. My personal opinion, When it comes to the “all-around” joystick. I think K-sticks are the best of the best and trust me, I’ve been thru A LOOOOT of joysticks. If you take the time to get used to them they’re godlike on just about any fighter you play…except marvel.
I haven’t had any issues with it. The SF DP motion is an easier version of EWGF in Tekken, so Idk how that would be harder when people love it for Tekken.
It feels more accurate. I’d compare a Korean stick and Japanese stick to the power steering in a high end sports car, like a Lamborghini, to a Toyota. The Lambo feels stiffer and more responsive. The Toyota steering wheel is crazy loose and you have no idea where it’s going sometimes. Hence, the terrible handling reviews.
Edit: Not saying Jap sticks are bad. I now have a strong preference for KR sticks
I would use my fanta for every game but I am not a big fan of the Saulabi case’s layout or Korean buttons, so I only use it for Tekken. My movement on Sanwa is dreadful in comparison.
I tested a JLF and a LS-58 (Same as LS-56 but use a less tight spring) so I have to say the LS-58 is way better than JLF, I cannot comment on 303FK because I never used one of those.
That’s what I’ve been hearing about the LS-56/58. With the JLF I have been using a 2 lb spring and it feels better than the OE spring. That’s why I’m choosing the 56 over the 58. Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. I honestly don’t think that the 303 will fit easily into the HRAP V3 that I am planning these mods on anyway so my decision was easier than I thought it would be. If I am wrong about that detail and anyone can shine some light on the 303’s fit in a HRAP V3 case that would be great.
Edit - Someone told me that the 303FK actually fits perfectly in a V3 so I am now back to deciding which lever to use.
The FK has a mounting plate that is fully JLF compatible so yea you can stick it in a lot of different sticks. Thing to be careful about with the Crown 303 though is that it has a built in octagonal gate that is part of the housing and not a changeable part. If you’re a square gate user this can cause some consternation in use (was hard for me to adjust to and caused me to give up on my 303 until I dremeled the gate out to a square).
SFIV have circular motions but the game “forgive” diagonals directions, so you can pull off hadoukens, soul spiral, fei long’s flying kick easily…but doesn’t mean you reached every direction/diagonal needed.
Well, thank god I’m a practitioner of a MANS Street Fighter game know as “Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo” where proper execution is a must! If I can execute flawlessly on that game alone, then my credibility in regards to my execution shouldn’t EVEN come into question for any other fighter LOL! Especially these new age lazy cough I mean, “forgivable” ones. You know which ones they are.
The corners are rounded and the actuator is oversized which is why you don’t really feel the corners normally but yet, they are there.
If you play an octagon gate normally then DEFINITELY grab a 303. The stick itself is pretty sweet. I really like how the rubber sheet+spring feels. Just noted the gate cause it was a major adoption pain for me.
Yeah maybe I will get it just to try it out? So far I’ve heard good things about the Korean Stick and that it doesnt use a spring kinda grabbed my interest. Everyone says Crown is perfect for TTT2 and I’ve been wanting to get back to it (gotta work on wave dashes and EWGF) but at the same time I want to be sure if playing UMvC3 will be fine since I usually play it.
As much as this has been a somewhat informative thread - you guys know the rules: no VS threads.
Also, having played on both, I personally hate k-sticks for 2D games. But obviously some folks here have said that they like 'em for 2d. Long story short, try them out yourself as everyone has different preferences.
