Japanese 3rd Strike Players Index

How in the hell isn’t KSK in the list yet ! He’s also referred to as “???” by the japanese, how do you read that ? Is it his real name ?

kinosuke is his real name.

idk KSK, TK, and TM all arent on the list. i think MOV isnt?

The purpose of this thread is stated in TheShend’s first post. Even though the title of the thread is “Japanese 3s players index”, it’s really just a list of names and aliases that have appeared in videos and on the internet that have been translated into english for better identification. When most people see the name TM or KSK, it’s in english so they immediately know who that is - it’s not really necessary to put them in here. I don’t really mind anyway, but really it’s up to TheShend - it is his thread.

In the post about KSK, ??? = Soushihan (don’t know what to make of that - but the kanji means “Overall a title of the Master”)

??(CH) = Tousatsu

Thanks for the translation

Massive thanks for your help in the translations Ghibli  I’ve been without an internet connection for the past 2 months sadly so I’ve not been ignoring your contributions

The point about whether the list should contain all names including the English one’s is something I’m still unsure about.
The list was really a reference for me to figure out the names of players in a language I couldn’t read, which isn’t an issue when the players take a name with English characters if you see where I’m coming from.
By all means, if KSK has a Japanese name which you’d see labeled somewhere on a match video then it should go in the list for sure. The same thing happened with KO not long back for instance.
But, if people really want this list to be a complete reference point for ALL known Japanese players, then I’m happy to make that way  While we’re at it, what else would you want to see in the list? Other languages? Ratings for the class of player? Throw it up here!

Here is a copy paste from some msword file that a friend sent me. I don’t know where it comes from exactly, but I think it might be the results from a poll in Japan. For each character, the best players are referenced and have a certain amount of points. For those who wondered, this is where the “(85~60)” near Thanatos’s name in the SBO4 vids comes from.

Keep in mind that those informations might be 1 or 2 years old. If anybody knows where to get a more recent version, and where exactly this comes from, feel free to tell me.

Even the commentators have their rating ! :

DJ? ???90? ???80?

Fun facts :

  • Ricky Ortiz, Justin Wong and Pyrolee are in here
  • Nuki has the highest ratings of all players
  • Thanatos is the only one to have a variable rating, which illustrates his random style
  • Aiku, considered best Dudley at the moment in japan, is not in here (the poll is too old)
  • Daigo has an XX rating !
  • KO has two different ratings : one for few years ago, and one for today. It seems like they think he was stronger back in the day.

Here’s a translation for non japanese reading folks :

Sean ? (???`)

? = Mei (HU)

Also, just to clarify that list a little bit further, Spe J is short for Spellmaster J (KE). I believe HMV is better known as Teppei (EL).

Why isn’t Sean P. listed for Sean? Or do they not consider him very good? I’ve never seen Umemon or HMV play Elena so that would be interesting. KO probably was better before. He seems to play more for fun now-a-days. He’ll switch characters and use strange supers and whatnot. Thanatos’ rating is hilarious, but some of it seems a bit off.

Kokujin was way more consistent than Jima.
TM isn’t on the Q list.
There’s no way Ricky’s Chun’ is that high up.

What does the XX next to Daigo’s name mean? Like untouchable or something? Lol.

uni>>>>>>>>>>>>>>sugiyama >pino

-uni have the best positioning game
-uni have the best defense
-uni have good trick ofenses and he i really good in yomi
-uni have the worst Knowledge of juggles and he not have solid execution
-sugiyama have a good postioning game

  • sugiyama have the worst defense
-sugiyama have really good trick ofense and he is decent in yomi
-sugiyama have the best tecnical knowledge of juggles and the best execution
-pino have the worst positioning game
    -pino have the bad defense
-pino have decent tricks ofenses but he have the best yomi
.pino have really good tecnical knowledge and a good execution

Uni’s come up, but he’s too careful sometimes. He can’t push the offensive as well as Sugiyama or Pino either, so when he falls behind he usually doesn’t make it. I’d probably agree with the Sugiyama > Uni > Pino ranking. Necro needs to be flailing around offensively a lot of the time or you end up getting raped by wake-up games.
The way Pino plays though, he’s parry bait.

Thats an interesting list

You can see Umemon play in the very first SBO dvd. His team gets OCV’ed by Spe J in the semi finals.

I don’t see what makes you think that. They both have different styles, but I wouldn’t say one is better than the other.

Like I said earlier, the list is one or two years old. This may explain some strange things. Also, I think that some players would have gotten higher ratings nowadays, like Keeper and Tokido.

Yeah, I think that’s what they meant ^^!

Yeah, I was going to say, there’s no way that list is completely accurate anymore as Tokido is a monster compared to a lot of those players.

KSK =/= Kinosuke. His full name is Imai Keisuke, which explains the similarity in KSK to Keisuke.

Ibuki.

MagnetoM:

I’m going to continue to believe that those players aren’t on the list for the simple fact that their gamer nickname is in the English alphabet. It doesn’t require Japanese characters to know it. If you want to know if the player is KSK, TM, TK, MOV, etc etc, you just look at their name (assuming you can read English)

That list is kinda strange, even if a couple years old. But, look at Hayao’s number. That’s a testament to how good he is.

here’s the order by points, just for the ease of visualization… (perhaps this isn’t the way it was supposed to be seen, but wth)
including the craziness like original KO, umehara’s XX grade, and thanatos randomness
weird list, really. i wonder where it does comes from… and if we’ll get an updated version as well

XX - Umehara
105 - Nuki
98 - O.KO
96 - MOV, N.KO, Hayao
95 - Boss(yun), Hirai, Denshiken, Justin
94 - Mester, Momochi, Spellmaster J
93 - Hitotsume, Ricky Ortiz, RX, J, Jima, Kokujin, Match
92 - Issei, Boss(yang), Dirty Music, Sugiyama, Yamazaki
91 - Kuroda, Pyrolee
90 - YSB, Aruka, Matsuda, Mokomokofu, AFM, Pierre, Yuki Otoko, Roshihikari, Goemon
89 - Namijin, Inoue
88 - Umemon, Keeper, Senaka, Jiro, Uni, Tama
87 - Pierrot, KSK, Onanism
86 - Raoh, Messatsu Yarou
85 - Zangoef, Misawa, Monme, Ma Jr, Koushun, Uraken, Thanatos(85~60)
83 - Ruu, Junin, OUT, MMM, Hiro Chan
82 - RED, Take
80 - PinoAB7, Makeinu, Y2J, HMV, Pistachio, Nomoto, Dot, Y da, Mei
60 - Thanatos(85~60)

That list shows its age, though I can agree with that given the time it was compiled.
We could try to make an up-to-date list maybe, averaging everyone’s contribution. This is obviously just for fun, as it’s hard to make a proper ranking without living in japan.

I’m putting in only Japanese players - I know that there are a lot of good players outside of Japan, but vids of them vs the Japanese are hard to come by so I wouldn’t make a proper comparison.
I’m basing those on 2007 vids, with good weight to sbo performance.
I know I’m missing some names, it’s just because I didn’t watch enough footage of them.

Oh, and according to all that I heard around that (too little footage though)
Half the cast: Kuroda (xx)

I did some looking around on the net and I found a similar set of rankings except these were posted recently (September 2007). Now really, it seems to me that these rankings were from a forum just like ours and it may just be someone’s speculation on how they these players should be ranked, rather than like an official vote by all the top players in Japan. I really can’t tell cause I can’t read all of the japanese well. Here’s the site, the list appears a little further down:
