Japan thread 2013: Abe back in office and island issues with China

I may be coming to Osaka in June or July for a Korean Visa run. Where do good AE players tend to congregate around there? I’ll probably be staying near the Korean consulate.

too expensive to play in Japan. Played 2 games in AE, lost 200 yen. Wanted to play a bit more but then realised what a colossal waste it was. In Japan 4~500 yen can get you a decent meal at a restaurant. When I think of this it’s a waste to play at the arcades. I stop by arcades in every city I go through and they are mostly dead even in the evenings. Either the recession and deflation has hit this country hard or…kids are playing on their PCs/consoles at home.

So, who’s up for some Friday/Saturday of Golden Week grinding? I’m up for some Skullgirls, AE, Blazblue, or Tag 2.

anyone on ps3, who plays injustice on a UK disc? I imported the uk version here in jpn.

this is why Japanese players on average are a lot better than any other group of players. You gotta get real good quick if you want to save money.

Damn true Reno!

Hey guys, i’ve got my xbox live account up and running. Hit me up if you want to play some AE or 3s.

Also, what’s the best way to find out about local events? i feel that i’m missing out on alot of tournaments.

I myself would like to go to some local events…

not sure about everyone else’s schedule, but I am a bit free during the day, nights are tough and weekends are even more difficult… too much work in my life.

Hey guys, I’m going to be visiting Japan with a buddy for a couple of weeks, and I’ll be staying near Ueno. Never really been out of North America before, so as you can guess, I’m pretty anxious/excited.

私の日本語は少し悪いです。少し漢字が分かります。De mo, I just started learning them, so I don’t know too much. It takes me a bit to switch languages, too.

I mainly play TTT2, Skullgirls, and SFxTK, but I also play pretty much any fighting game I get my hands on. I love the Aksys stuff, (GGAC, BB, P4A) though I’m definitely better in the former. I used to play Sengoku Basara X at my local place but they switched it out years ago.

Also, on the off chance that anybody knows any open bath onsen that are ok with visible tattoos; since I know most aren’t, I’d like to hear from you.

If anybody wants to hang out within the first couple of weeks of June, let me know!

OP add me to the list of regulars/long termers. Been here ten years, going nowhere soon.

I totally suck, but I’m up for a challenge with anyone, no added salt.

Living in Nagoya, frequent haunts for SFIV:

M’s Park in Kariya City
Bay Meiho in Osu
Comtech Tower in Mei-eki (Nagoya Station Area)

Been known to hit up the arcade near Kanayama station above the pachinko place… can’t remember the name…

OK, added you to the PSN list.

I been here for almost 7 years myself…

Thanks for the add. Where are you located? Do you get out to the arcades much?

I just wish I had more time to practice. Usually online (PSN) early morning (6:30-7:00) or late in the evening (after 9:30 ~ whenever)

Down the road from my main gig is M’s cafe, but it’s almost always empty - I’ve never played a real live human there before and I go there a few times a week. Nagoya arcade scene is pretty decent, had some pretty solid matches (and way too many defeats) in Osu during Golden Week though. Just don’t get a chance to get to that part of the city outside of school vacation periods though.

I am in shinjuku. I go out every now and then, but mostly for 3s and CVS2 in Shibuya.

I only get to play online every so often, my PS3 is at my girl friends apartment and she dont like it when I play too much… a bit whipped in that department I guess.

You ain’t the only one (whipped, that is). In my case it’s two sons (5 and 2) and a whole bunch of "urusai"s when I rock the stick… sigh…

Right there with you… i have a 5 year old and a 3 year old boys. My ex wife would always complain about the noiae of the sticks. My sons loved it though.

My boys dig it too. It’s mommy who gets outraged which means I have to switch to pad and get my stick fix at the local gesen. Then again, who can blame her given the hours of the day I play. Pretty sure the neighbours could hear me bashing away.

The other day, my younger boy woke up to see me get thrashed by Gouken. Not only did he laugh but he stroked his imaginary beard and crossed his arms. Talk about rising sodium levels…

I know exactly where you are coming from.

to reduce the noise of the sticks, i usually put a blanket over my hands and what not. but it gets hella hot and your hands start to sweat and slip on the stick.

my boys like the africa stage. so as long as I have it on that stage, they have a kick ass time looking at what all the animals do.

Blanket on the hands… that could work, though I know what you mean about heat.

Same here for the Africa stage, two boys rolling around doing hippo impersonations, running like cheetahs and tearing it up while I try not losing because I’m too distracted!

Then there’s the older boy who says:

“Dad, you’ve got an ultra, use it! USE IT! ***UUUUUUSSSSEEEE IIIIITTTTT!***”

and I say: “No, not now, gotta set it up…”

Then Elf on screen says: “***Baka daa-a-a-aa-!***” and there go my PP…

I’m lucky, my bro (as in actually my brother, who also posts on SRK) also lives in Japan so we can usually setup a bit of biffo because out schedules kind of work

My boys are the same way man… glad to see that another SRKer in the same position. Only 3 of us with boys on the board to my knowledge.

My brother likes SF but he is on a much lower level than I am. So I usually let him go against my girlfriends or something. Next time I am out in your area I will hit you up. I go to Osaka on business from time to time but never Nagoya… I could make a pit stop though.

That’d be alright. Default setting is: Busy as all hell. But you never know… especially during summer…
