Justin Wong and I just got to Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan… We’re staying here for 2 weeks til the 13th of July. Where are the spots to play during the weekdays? We went to Game Safari and there was no one good there … There were decent, but none that was beating us.

Las Vegas? TRF? Game Safari? Game Versus? We’re trying to find up all the spots. TVC / GG / SF4 please.

Oh and where do I find girls who like fat viet English speakers ^_^!

Hey there, I’ll be spending a week in Tokyo by the end of the month. I’d like to get some Sanwa buttons and joysticks while I’m there, but hmph, I havent even started studying the places I want to go. So if anyone can give me some info on where can I find those it’d be great, so that I an start planning the week and all

marn, just sent you a PM with a list of arcades and which elite players go to them. hope you can read moonspeak lol, if not hit me up and i’ll translate it in a day or two.

More info from my coworker (HnK fiend)

On Friday there is an SFIV tourney at Nakano TRF.
Lots of people playing at tougeki will be there.
Also on some days at TRF they have 300 yen all you can play days.

What is the easiest/cheapest way to get a cellphone in Japan with a good data plan? I’m going to be there for like, all of August and I would like to use my cellphone for things like Twitter and Facebook during my day. That way I don’t have to carry my laptop around with me everywhere.

I was thinking of renting a SIM card, and it looks like that might be my best option, but it is going to be like $200. Any ideas?

get it at the airport. all my friends do it that way when they come here. just ask the service desk where you can get a phone and they will point you where to go.

Could you please also sent me that list :stuck_out_tongue:

you’re in nagano? you’re like… a stone throw away from me

i’m a total arcade noob.

i’ve got a card, i’m lost the minute i drop 100 yen in the machine. can anyone in yokosuka help me out?

i ain’t that good either, tho.

Hello! I just arrived at Tokyo, and will be here for 8 more days. I’d like to know where can I but Sanwa buttons and joysticks.

Thanks for the feedback!

when you get to the character select screen, put in the card and just click yes, yes and youre done. youll be a no name but can begin tracking stats etc. when you register on your phone you get to do all the other stuff but you can do that anytime. always put in your card at the character select screen.

dude scott popular, you always have some broad in your avatar… makes me wanna hurry up and get a divorce

good ol days :frowning:

I was wondering which arcade does daigo play in Japan? i was guesing somwhere in shibuya, nakano, or shinjuku does anyone know where him or the other top players play?

So I’m moving to Japan…right now. I will be in Tokyo for a few days (Sunday - Tuesday) but then I will move on to my new home in Gifu-Ken. Anyone know of any arcades in Gifu? If not I’m sure Nagoya has some? I’m 30 mins from Nagoya. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

In about a month, I’ll be staying in Hirakata-shi, Osaka for a semester at Kansai Gaidai. Does anyone know if there’re any arcades close by? Hirakata-shi is quite a ways from the business part of Osaka, about an hour or so by train, and I want a play I can go to regularly (like on weekdays between studies).

I did a year at kansai gaidai.

Assuming you’re dorming, from the dorms, the campus is about 20 minutes walking. From there, the station is about 25 minutes walking. Right near the station is a small arcade called “Game Dino”

I’m not sure what games you’re looking for, but they’ll have most of the big titles (minus SFIV prolly). They’ll have a couple tekken machines, blazblue, GG, melty blood, they might have Demon Bride, they’ll have the gundam games, and im sure they’ll have a few rythym games.

Anyways, I used to go there multiple times a week. If you get a bicycle, it’s a lot less time (prolly 15-20 minutes to the dorms, but you either have to pay to park your bike or move it every 90 minutes or so, since 90 minutes or less is free). I suggest just asking someone where “Hirakata-shi station” is and you’ll be able to find Game Dino as you walk there.

In the opposite direction of the campus from your dorms, you can go to Kuzuha. In Kuzuha, they have an arcade there called “Nexus”. It’s about an hour walking from the dorms (there’s a buncha games stores and stuff along the way if you walk on the main street). Nexus is special because it’s the only arcade I know of that’s open until 5AM. Most arcades close at midnight, but if you want to go arcade it up for a while until 5AM, then you can catch the train back to makino station (closest station to the dorms). They had Tekken the last time I was there, but I don’t remember much else of what they had. I remember what they had 2 years ago, but it’s been a while.

So those are arcades that you can go to on the weekdays. On the weekends, you can take the Keihan express to Yodoyabashi station (about 25-30 minutes 320 yen from hirakata station, 340 from makino station, makino is closer, but you have to transfer trains at hirakata), and from there, you can either take the midosuji line to Namba (230 yen) or walk about 45 minutes to Namba through shinsaibashi. I was cheap, so when I was with friends, we would just walk and it would go by pretty fast. When I’m alone, i generally prefered to ride the train. Also, from Yodoyabashi station, if you go the other way, you can walk about 15 minutes to Umeda. In Umeda, there’s a few arcades, with the most popular one being Monte 50, which has just about every fighter you would want except like, sfIV. For SFIV, you can go to the namco arcade, Monte Carlo (the OTHER monte arcade, 100 yen per play, not 50 yen like Monte 50), and I think there’s a sega arcade nearby which has SFIV also. But if you’re looking for SFIV comp, just go to Sega Avion in Namba. I don’t know what games you want to play, so I can’t give advice on which arcades are suitable for you other than that.

Also keep in mind that if you take the keihan line to Sanjo, i believe, you can walk about 10-15 minutes and get to a-cho. A-cho is like Monte Carlo, but better imo. 50 yen a play, and it has EVERYTHING. It’s big, and has a lot of machines for each game. It’s quite easy to do a day trip there if you have no afternoon classes (if you plan your schedule well, you might have no afternoon classes 2 days a week, and if you plan REALLY well like me, you might have no afternoon classes 3 days a week) The way your schedule works is that you’ll have Spoken Japanese 5x a week. It varies from 9AM to noonish, with each class being 50 minutes. You have Reading/Writing Japanese 3x a week for 50 minutes. You then have two afternoon classes, each 80 minutes long or so, 2x a week. So some days, you might have all 4 classes, other days, you might have only spoken japanese at say, 10AM and be done by 11AM. On those days, it’s easy to just take a train to a-cho, go there for however many hours, and then come home in the evening. You can also go to Game Dino, but a-cho has more competition and a bigger selection. Game Dino is better if you wanna go to an arcade for a couple hours and don’t want to pay train fare to go to an arcade (because I’m assuming similar to how I was broke when I was a student there, you’re gonna be broke too).

Also, on “route 1” (you’ll have to ask about route 1 i guess), LAST TIME I WAS THERE (a while ago, so they might have shut down…) there’s a sega arcade, which is good for VF, taiko drum master, sangokushi taisen, etc, as well as medal games and ufo games. There’s also a namco arcade, which is good for Tekken (tho if it’s 100 yen for 1 play, and not 2 plays, then game dino is by far the better option), but also has a large variety of games. There’s also a tsutaya there, and it’s a bit closer than the station from the campus, maybe 10-15 minutes walking? There’s also a couple game stores on route one, a joshin (big electronic store), and a used store.

I dunno how much you like walking, but you’re gonna be doing a lot of it. I would suggest making the most of your time and exploring the area. It’s probably a lot easier with a bicycle i would imagine (however, i don’t like riding bikes, so i never got one), but yeah, there’s a lot of interesting things in Hirakata, as well as the surrounding area (Kuzuha as well). You’re right in between Osaka and Kyoto, both of which offer a huge variety of different things. You’re gonna enjoy the study abroad, and it’s a shame that you’re only doing it for a semester, and not a whole school year.

If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me or ask here. Have fun at Gaidai, and enjoy the 80-20 girl-guy ratio of Japanese students. ;D

Hi there, first off i want to thank everybody posting in this thread cut it’s very useful. :china:

Me and a couple of friends will be in Tokyo this august, the exact place is kabuki-cho Shinjuku-ku.
I’m diggin the wiki page on the first post for the location of any Arcades nearby but i’d like to know where the best 3S and SF4 players are, which time and day they show up in the arcades etc.

Also we’re going to watch the Tougeki and maybe try the last chance qualifier in the morning before the event so if anybody can point me out with some other info on this stuff like where to buy the tickets, how to join the tournament it would be greatly appreciated. Do we need to make some sort of reservations or buy cards in advance?

Other stuff

  • place to get good food around the kabuki-cho Shinjuku-ku area
  • tips for not getting lost in the underground
  • interesting places/areas

We’ll be in Japan from the 5th to the 25th of august so if some of u locals want to meet us and show us around it would be great to have a guide in that concrete jungle lol
We don’t speak a single word of japanese of course :frowning:

knowing that you can access the english section of hyperdia.com from your pc site viewer on your phone is probably one of the biggest lifesavers i’ve ever had in japan.

btw, ps3 users:

if you can, try to fight against a dude named “plantage”.

story:
i fought against this guy and he was just badass. amazing spacing, crazy combos, and i couldn’t get a match on him. i messaged him and said “you’re good” and he actually responded back in really simple english. he said he was “daigo” and he said he knew “justin”. i said “haha, ok” and that was it. i’ve since played him a few more times, and the guy really is… crazy good. i still don’t think it’s actually daigo for obvious reasons (for example: i’m not naive), but the dude is brilliant at sf. the only time i ever beat him is when he let’s me get a round (and he makes it really obvious). otherwise, when he wants to win, he just does.

btw: if anyone knows who this guy is, please do tell.
