I’m often in Tokyo for business, but haven’t been able to check out the arcade scene there. I only play Third Strike at any sort of competitive level, how is the 3s scene at Kaikan? Would I be able to find competition during weeknights? Is it gaijin friendly (my Japanese is pretty dismal)?
I’ll make it a point to stay at the Shibuya Excel just to hit up the arcade after business meetings/dinners if there’s weeknight comp.
I’ll most likely be in Tokyo at the end of this month if anyone is up for some 3s (unfortunately, I’m not into the club scene).
kaikan has ppl playing 3s at all times of the day. just goto the basement and theres 3 cabs at the end of the row. i pretty much only go on weeknights so yea, you’ll def find comp.
Man, thanks for giving me a place to nerd out… It was much better than spending money and playing at the gamecenter. And how many times do you get a chance to play games with a killer view of Tokyo Bay and Rainbow Bridge from the 37th floor sky lounge.
CVS2: I think I made out pretty well until your ratio 4 zangief came in and stopped my party!
Rival Schools: Man, it was so refreshing to find someone who still plays it. Yeah you came out on top on this game. I’m still kinda very sodium crystaline about being caught in the MOMONESS mini launches to the triple team supers! My EDGE sucks so much now too! More lil’John “What! Failure combos!”

Hey, im in osaka right now, too. What games do you play? Only 3S?
I play mainly Arcana Heart, but if people are playing mvc2 (if monte carlo even has it, since ive never been there), i’ll be down for that, since its been a long time since i had any decent mvc2 comp. I don’t really play 3S, so if thats like, the only thing you play, then its prolly not worth the trip for me…tho the guys that ive talked to said that wed night arcana heart is off tha hook, so maybe i’d still go for that after the revision comes out in the next couple of days…
Yo. I just moved to Fukuoka(Hakata-ku) for studies and found out that the only place I could go to for 3rd Strike comp is at the Sega Gigo in Tenjin. Anyone else go there to play, and if so when would be the best time to play? If anyone else shows up there, look for a creamwhite(LP+MK+HP) Q player during random times in the afternoon.
I’m moving to Japan near the end of August. Location is still to be determined, but most likely I’ll be in Osaka (working for NOVA). I play Marvel so I’m hoping I can find more players.
I went to Monte Carlo and they had Marvel still (2 machines). I hope by the time I get back there, they’ll still have those cabinets.

last time i was in more [a month ago] i didnt see any sf games. and if there were, theres def nowhere near as many as there used to be. shibuya kaikan and shibuya sportsland are best for sf comp in this area. ikebukuro also has good comp, cant remember the name of the place though…
marvel comp in alpha station is random. but its really the only semi-reliable place to find it.
honestly tho, if u guys are visiting tokyo, u can walk into just about any of the million game centers and find good comp. the ‘scrubs’ here could easily place in any tournament abroad.
and sorry, i dont play ST so i have no idea where those guys play.
I’ll be in Tokyo on business from May 8th through May 12th. I’ll be staying in Shibuya and trying to hit up Kaikan in the evenings. Let me know if anyone’s up for some 3s during that time.
shibuya sportsland is basically right across from shibuya kaikan… just walk past hmv [and the crazy ppl] on senta gai and its on the right. they used to have tuesday night free play and weekly tournies but they just finished renovating so i dunno if thats back or not. ive seen bas play cvs2 there before but ive also seen him in kaikan so just peek into both and see which has more comp. basements are best for cvs2 and 3s.
and u guys gotta get on 2spicy… that game is the hotness.
Hi. New here. I’m going to be staying in Tokyo for all of next week, May 6-12. Staying at New Otani Hotel in Akasaka. Since my Japanese consists of what my trusty guide book says, kinda afraid of navigating the huge metropolis. The JR system looks scary confusing. Hopefully I’ll find my way to Shibuya Kaikan, Alpha Station, Club Sega and get owned for free. :wonder:
