Japan Fundraising Tournament, April 3 - The Etrium, Union City

I’m very excited to finally announce Fight for Relief: A Charity Tournament for Japan by Level | Up x iPLAYWINNER

Fight For Relief

Please help us spread the word!

Now that the awesome duders over at Keystone II have supplied us with EVO monitors, work can continue back towards sponsors. Everything is looking great for a Wednesday prize reveal. We’re also planning on having a few venue and online raffles as well.

In the meantime, I’ll be attending The Etrium’s weekly fight night this Tuesday. I hope to see some of you there!

I’ll definitely spread the word on this tourney. Seems like it got front page on Srk anyway haha. Is there an FB page or a link to it? I may get some people to go as well.

Yep, we got a Facebook event page all ready to go-

 For any one interested in how the venue looks Game-Zone Recreation did a video for them taking a tour of their venue. It’s on our youtube channel here:

You can also stop by at the Tuesday sessions at Etrium tomorrow from 6pm to 10pm.

Do you need to be a member to be allowed in? How much does one pay if they want to spectate?

You definitely don’t have to be a member of anything to be allowed into the Etrium. There will be no spectator fee but … c’mon, you should pitch in a little while you’re there

I am going to pitch in any way I can man. This tourney is going to be great!

Ok all, at last I finally have the prize packages together for the Fight for Relief tournament this Sunday at The Etrium in Union City. Please keep in mind that these packages apply to both the Super Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs Capcom 3 tournaments.

Kineda.com Tee (Link)

2nd Place

Kineda.com Tee

3rd Place

Just a quick note… the Mad Catz prizes (Rat7 Gaming Mouse and t-shirts) will have to be shipped after the tournament. MarkMan just informed me today that there’s no way he can get them out in time due to some business with their shipping facility. After the tournament I’ll be taking the information of the top three finishers in each game and MarkMan will ship out your prizes on Tuesday, April 5.

Also, we’ll have regular raffle drawings for prizes including a Hori Wireless PS3 Fight Stick, BROKENTIER shirts and Kineda Tees. Entrants will receive 10 tickets per every $5 they spend and we will have a donation box on site in which you will receive the same deal. The proceeds of the donation box will of course all go to our GlobalGiving fund for Japan relief efforts.

As always any questions / concerns, feel free to let me know! Thanks!

Dammmmn Prizes lookin fresh.

Dopppppeeeee I dunno if I’m more excited about this or KS2 B&G event. Either way let’s have a bitchin weekend!!

I wish i could play in this tourney, cept i have a bad case of “no xbox” meaning no te/controller. still might go. if not i’ll just be a stream monster.

Just wanted to hop on here one last time and say thank you so much NorCal, iPlayWinner, and Mr. Jared for all their hard work with the Fight for Relief collaboration effort. April 3rd 2011 is easily one of the proudest days of the FGC, and you all played a huge role in it! Congratulations all around =)

Thanks Jeff

And thank you to everyone who came out today and supported this event. I’m not sure if a lot of you guys realized this, but this was my first time as a head organizer of a tournament and I really couldn’t have done it without the assistance of the NorCal community. From Haunts, Erich and Darry holding down the stream to Anthony, Ann and Terry taking control of the bracket situation, along with Joe and Albert being gracious enough to supply the monitors… Seriously, I don’t know what I’d do without all you guys lending a hand and I appreciate it all very much.

Also, a great big thank you to the staff at the Etrium, especially Terrico and Rob for being so incredibly gracious throughout the entire process. We had 13 days to put on this event and it’s almost hard to believe we pulled it off. The Etrium is a great venue and the staff treated us extremely well. I felt like I was in Bizzaroworld as I was working alongside a group of people who were actually EXCITED about hosting a fighting game tournament, as opposed to being treated like a video gaming hooligan out to torch the place as I’ve experienced at other venues. They brought us drinks, they brought in pizza… they had a legitimate tech guy to help us out, pulled in their own sponsor… from an organizer standpoint, it was a great experience and I hope you guys will continue to check it out in the future.

Speaking of the organizer standpoint … I have a lot of learning to do and should I be placed in this position again, I’ll definitely be taking the lessons learned here. I’ll be chatting with some of you folks in the future regarding feedback but while everything went relatively smooth, I can’t pretend like it was perfect either. But you guys know me, I’m sort of a freak like that… ask Haunts

I’ll be putting up a post on iPW soon but the charity overview is this… collectively, from the NorCal and SoCal events, Brokentier promotion and online donations, we raised over $30,000 for aid relief in Japan. That is so far beyond my expectations that it’s difficult for me to find the words to express how incredibly ridiculous and amazing that is. The gold TE went to a person who donated $2k in one shot. It’s easy to lose sight of what this was all about amongst all the hype but in the end, this is really why we were all here and we came BIG. Thank you to everyone who came and supported our Fight for Japan and chipped in. Every dollar helped and this was truly a gargantuan effort.

Again, thank you all very much for coming. It was more than worth all the sleepless nights and endless skype calls to get it all done

Jared you need to run more events in NorCal please, thanks. I’m gonna ignore the fact you said this was your “last tournament” like 4 or 5 times. Shit was spot-on.

I didn’t say that! Haha, I said something SIMILAR but not my last tournament

 One of my favorite SRK events of all time. :razzy: I am very happy that so much money was raised and I’m glad I could even have the opportunity to help make it happen. This event was truly amazing especially given the fact that it was done in less then two weeks.
