There is much more to those ST matches than you think. By throwing fireballs, O. Sagat can eliminate his opponent’s options. Good players will actively think of a way to avoid chip damage, while not leaving themselves open for a free fierce Tiger Uppercut by simply trying to jump in. That’s where skill comes in. Skilled players will know their opponent’s options, and react accordingly. Think of the fireballs as obstacles, and the opponent’s job is to find a way around them. If you were put up against an O. Sagat player that kept throwing fireballs, you would need to find a way through and punish him every time, to discourage him from throwing so many.
I have seen him play at school and if you think he’s a keep away/turtler you’re making a big mistake. I have never seen someone play as fast as John does and rush down as perfectly as he does. I actually feel bad watching when he’s playing because he just destroys the other players in seconds.
Im not trying to diss his play at all, or even him persionaly. Just in those matches it does get realy anoying. If he is so good though, why didn’t he do what you say he can do?

If you’re playing a character that needs to go in to deal damage you use a character that keeps away, etc.
I’m not a big Street Fighter player (I’m a TTT player), but countering certain characters is in every game and lots of good players rely on countering characters with other characters when it is needed.

I guess he’s there to put on a show for you? He’s trying to win. Not do flashy, pointlessly risky stuff. His style was flawless with that character, and that’s all there is to it.
It’s safer to throw fireballs and keep the opponent away than letting the opponent get close, where the opponent has more options to deal damage to you. They can’t really do shit damage to you if you are good at keeping them away.
Have you ever played John Choi at any game? He laid the fuck you up all over me rushing me the fuck down… but I’m not the best, so I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t have the execution to stop it. At high level, I’m sure those guys could psychic DP a lot of rush down attempts… so what’s wrong with playing safe?
You’re still only looking at the surface of the matches. John Choi is quite capable of rushing down, but O. Sagat is not a rushdown character. Also, many times, rushdown leaves you open. People use rushdown to take advantage of the holes in their opponent’s defense, but it’s not an invincible tactic. If you try to rush too much in ST, you could eat a fat-ass DP to the face if you aren’t careful. Most players know this, which is why most of those high-level finals matches are not full of risks being taken.

Hey dont get me wrong theres nothing wrong with playing safe. But to a certain extent. All I said is that it was anoying, not that it was flawed. Hell, I know he’ld kick my ass too, I don’t even play ST. But if someone has to do that to do good in a tourny… you know what I mean?

its like saying its boring to see Sim keep people away with his long limbs… what do u want him to do… rush down… use random teleports and put him at risk??? NO… you play your keep away and throws cause thats how the character was designed to be played as…
O.Sagat has amazing fireball speeds that very few characters can overcome… why should you change your game style if thats what your character is designed to do… and why should you change especially if you are in the middle of a huge tournmanemt and your opponent cant overcome O.Sagat game design…
you’re right its not flashy… its not cool looking… but it gets the job done…
trust me… you dont become a top Player w/o being able to overcome character that can counter that style… John has had many practice against characters that can beat O.Sagat (ie Sim) and he usually still wins…
