Yun isn’t a pick up and play character. He’s a lot of training mode and can get pretty execution heavy. He’s definitely one of top two in the right hands, but I haven’t played many Yuns who can really do it.
Chun is much simpler to become decent with. Just learn her normals (hint: they’re really fucking good), get good with low forward and back fierce hit confirms, and abuse her kara throw. Once you have all those down she has a laundry list of option selects due to almost every normals linking to super and her kara off of a roundhouse. It’d still take time and match up knowledge to become really great with her, but you can get to a solid level pretty quick.
But as much as people talk about tiers in this game, low and mid tier characters can be really difficult to deal with. A good Hugo will completely shut you down. A Urien with two meters who knows what he’s doing can kill you completely with unblockables. A solid Dudley, 2nd round, can take you out with 3 setups. Makoto’s rushdown is crazy tough to defend against. A smart denjin player can come back at any time. A stun Necro can take you out in two correct guesses with meter. And so on.
So unless you’re playing Sean and 12, who have to get in too many times for this game (but can still win), you can get pretty scary.
If learning and you need a strong character you really can’t go wrong with Ken. He’s complete jack of all trades and has a bit of all the techniques. Maybe he can’t peak as high as Yun or Chun but he can show you what style you SHOULD be playing and without tooooo much effort put in to training. Once you see if you are offensive, poke based, defensive etc etc etc you can make a decision what character to jump to from there.
The game rewards knowledge and time spent playing it and researching it. It takes a lot of time to grow into it and “get it”. A game you take month by month and not day by day. Because of this… and everyone says this but… playing a character you actually like is more important in a game like this than picking based on potential power level. It just takes so long to “master” a character that you need to be really into them.
If you still are having trouble picking a character my Ken can be you punching bag just whatever you do don’t under any circumstances ever pick Grape Ken 8).
3soe is so good to me. Today is a good day. Fun matches in that room this afternoon dudes. Thanks for that invite, Josh. Roy and myself were switching off on the sticks. He obviously was the mid-level Makoto. Stunzzzzz.
yo yo. cant wait for this sunday guys so i can get some 3S games in. am i right in assuming this is tournament week? if so, hope to see 3S players bringing their game face to HH!! cant wait to bring some Inspector Gadget
ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME OOH OOOHH AND MEEEEEE!! no but seriously, are we gonna play some this sunday? i got it on Dreamcast and Birds! is supposed to have it too. what id REALLY REALLY like to play though is some competitive Tobal 2!
omg yes, not that good but I looooooove ds. However MAME mac doesn’t register the forward and roundhouse buttons on my stick so I have to use the 2 extra buttons on the side all awkward like so I don’t play because of that.
For VS/DS3 I have the PS2 version called… I think it was “Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection” and then the DC version called “Vampire Chronicles for Matchmaking Service”. I’d say the ps2 one is the “best” but it’s debatable … BUT honestly I’d rather just bring my laptop and throw it up on there in FBA so it’s the arcade version. Plus I don’t really have sticks for the other two systems right now. Still waiting on boards to dual/multi mod my two.* … *and I recently cannibalized our old HRAP2s to fix up my FSVX.
But if you want the console ones there I can bring them. They are both… ahem… non-legit imports… but I have the things that make them work. That is if you have a fat ps2 or any standard DC (God bless that awkward beast)… oh and I guess a CRT… actually fuck it I’m bringing the laptop.
As far as the tournie… No way we actually need that many systems with 3s on it but that’s hilarious.*

I leave it up to the expert. If you play it on the lappy2000 then I’ll get a converter so we can throw it on a monitor. If you can find a copy on PS2 or DC then I have twin sticks for both, ol’ twin sticks with crappy buttons and cheap joysticks. lol, everyone plays with a handicap!!!
ill bring the DC game if you want. like Birds! said, not sure if its the “BEST VERSION”. but then again to own what everyone considers an “arcade perfect” conversion youd have to have the import saturn version anyway, and theres even less people who own THAT.
