anyone in jacksonville who knows…I’m not sure of the right terminology but “hack” a 360 controller pad, meaning soldering wires and having disconnects on the end of them. I have buttons and switches and a shell that I’m working with and just need a “hack”. Also PM me details here, and I can talk about price. Thanks.

Yo post that shit on jax fgc. And make sure to take them to hammer hall!

I think beast_SPL aka Jei does some modding and spektrum works on it too. As jabarbo said bring your stuff to Hammer Hall.

i’m in there!

Arghhh I won’t be in Jax till probably late Sunday night.

Just a general question but how do ppl feel kof xiii and skullgirls are going to do? Is anyone in jax even considering these games as viable?

Brandon I’m coming if I don’t work and if I do, I’m coming when I get off.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “viable”. I will absolutely be playing both and trying to push them on anyone I can. My 3s crew will be playing KoF for sure and we will probably be checking out SG as well because it seems to be built on the frame work of both MvC2 and CvS2 both of which are pretty great games, but with a lot of the complaints of both series addressed.

KoF XIII seems really solid. We have an arcade copy we’ve been tooling around with even though it’ll be different from the console version… Just getting used to the system. Bear used to play '98 and possibly a bit of 2002 and I’ve messed with Garou and the Samurai series on the dreamcast back when I first started playing these things so we have some really small familiarity with the SNK system but it’s tenuous at best so any exposure right now is good. Point being, we don’t actually know how to judge the game but from what we’ve played so far it’s an insanely fun really really well done game. The console version is supposedly even better with impeccable balance across the cast. Or so the current testers are whispering.

I dunno man, if by viable you mean “will modern fighting game players actually play this at tournaments?” then I would bet on “no” but hope for “yes”. The games are both pretty deep and can get a bit too complicated for most “casual” players, plus they are very “aggressive” in their system direction… so unless they are also constructed so well that they have a simple “top layer” to appeal to casuals (or a seriously solid training/tutorial mode) I can’t see them becoming tournament staples that show up years down the line. Will they show up at least the first or second year of their release? I’d say that’s very likely.

If by viable you mean “will they be good/worth playing” I’d say almost certainly.

Really though it’s too early to know anything. These things takes months to suss out.

i will MOST DEFINITELY be playing Skullgirls!! shit looks sooooooo fun and itll be interesting to see how that plays out. KoFXIII on the other hand i dont know. its mostly a character roster problem for me personally. no blue mary, no whip, no vanessa, no Tizoc. i guess i play too much KoF 2002 even though Tizoc aint in it. but in any case, i probably wont buy it unless other people get into it. but i feel pretty good about Skullgirls considering MvC3 as A GAME hasnt been all that great to me, so im excited for a different take on the tag fighter genre that promises better balance and tighter play.

KoF XIII - I was burned by KOF12, so before I buy it I’ll have to play one of yours. However initial previews look promising. I hope they make it balanced.
SG - Maybe, haven’t seen much footage. But in terms of tourney play, i think this will be the next melty blood
TTT2- hell yes, lends itself to my strategy of most fighting games, mash til you win. J/K  but seriously, they will need to bring back tekken bowl or tekken ball
SC5 - yes, special place in my heart for soul calibur

Supposedly 13 addresses almost all of the complaints with 12. They are basing it more on a hybrid of 98 and '02 with some slight nods to 12 in the “simplicity for learning” department. They brought back most of the old mechanics though and revamped the new ones. The only thing anyone is complaining about so far is the “Hyper Drive” mode and those people are just crying because it’s “easier” than normal cancels and EX move combos… Which means nothing as the amount of resources it takes balances it all out. If you blow HD and don’t connect or miss part of the combo you are completely exposed. No HD bar, almost no meter depending on the situation/combo used. It’s more risk for the slight reward of less execution required. Damage is about equal so they say.

I hope SG does better than Melty Blood. All these people out there crying about how MvC2 is the tits and 3 is bogus… if they don’t step up and support the MvC2-reborn-wet-dream that Skullgirls promises to be then they should have their complaining rights revoked. They have a character that does double AHVB for christsakes. One character even has magneto’s combo timing. Watch the EVO panel on it and tell me it doesn’t look like a brilliant piece of design. I think it’s ugly as hell and hate the artwork but mechanically it looks amazing. Bah at least it’s hand animated… Maybe the look will grow on me.

If anyone is getting back into 3rd Strike with the soon to be release of 3SO, let me know. Doubtful but worth a post.

There is a um “evaluation copy” of 3S birds! has and at least two consoles will have 3SO by the last week of August.

You mentioned something in your tourney thread about casuals going on at HH. Where is that and how often do these casuals happen?

Check my signature. It has all the info.
We meet every Sunday. The tournament schedule is in flux right now. We are about to start a RanBat season for trial. There will be one last normal double elim tournament the 28th if I’m not mistaken. Sying has the sched though.

3rd Strike:
Yes there have always been people into 3s in this city oddly enough. After the last machine closed at the Regency tilt we started meeting weekly in homes mainly at the beach. We have a small community of serious players and now they get down to HH when they can (I’m pushing them to show up more often). We’ve (well… Bear mainly) been teaching two or three new people over the last month or so. When 3sO hits we’ll be preaching the gospel.

Nice. It’s good to see someone supporting and rebuilding the scene. I work a good schedule that allows the weekends off so I’m sure I’ll turn into a 3S regular there. I’ll come have a look on sunday. =D

Does anyone in JVille play Blazblue? I’m thinking about getting into it but I don’t want to start if no one here plays it. Also I will definetly be on that 3rd Strike and Skullgirls train when it comes out.

I’ve got it, brought it to the last tourney, but haven’t been in the lab much to get good. I want to get better. Not like I’m going to beat your Fei in SSF4AE

Remember 3rd strike is going to be part of the tourney on August 28th at HH and also at UA on Sept 3rd

Cool I’ll probably go trade MvC3 in soon and pick up Blazblue then as for not being able to beat my Fei just wait for balanced edition where Fei’s Rekka will be -11 EX CW will be -7 and his damage will be reduced.
