5 dollar RanBats and 10 Dollar Tourney sounds good to me also @ Birds! I won’t be able to bring my setup this coming weekend I’m visiting my dad. I hope to see lots of competiton at Storm Underground 3 I need to win a tourney before they nerf Fei to Hakan tier.
I’ll even throw in bonus money for the winner of the Ranbats. For both.
Ggs to tyger treyx and all the other guys on xbl tonight. I seriously need to play hawk more so i dont get lut on blast like that again. I got u the first time with rose but after that…phew! Lets do it again sometime
I would probably be able to make it too the Underground Alley ranbats easily if they were to be held on wed/thur. Unfortunately the HammerHall ranbats I would miss completely, 'cuz I work until 6 every…single…sunday…ever, Nicksad
See you guys just haven’t learned the secret art of starting your own religion to get Sundays off.
I propose we call them
"JaxBats"
May I suggest the $7 pot? A couple of ranbats are already implementing this. Again its up to you.
Whatever the pot is going to be, I’d rather have more people come with a smaller pot fee, then less people with a larger pot fee.
@tyger. I’ll hold you to that And at least for the first season I’ll add 10% into the pot, or a $20 spot, whatever is greater.
In addition the winners of the each ranbat will receive an additional prize. Right now I have a couple things lined up: stick mods, stick cases, shirts and something BIG in 2012.
Finally, I’ll be having a drawing at the end of each ranbat to reward the people that came consistently. The more you participate the better chance you have of winning. It will probably be a smaller version of the ranbat prizes I mentioned above.
Now that we have two locations on two different days as well as bonus and prizes in store, its time to get hype!!!
my final words on these ranbats…
having two ranbats within a 30 minute radius each week is silly and there is no way to convince me otherwise. it will split the attendees for both sessions and limit the exposure for the local players and here is why:
using the complaints above…$10 entry might scare off players, but let’s look at this a different way. HH ranbats will be $5 door with $5 entry and UA ranbats will be $5 door with $5 entry. That would be $20 plus gas (gas isnt cheap when you have to run 93) every week if a player wants to get a chance to play everyone in the scene. You would save money (remember, not everyone has a solid paying job) to just choose one ranbat.
If we want to bring a community together, why split the already small pool of players we have? It may appear that we have all these players, but we need to remember that most players only play one game serious enough to enter a ranbat series…let alone two of them each week and a monthly tournament. if the argument is that it’s ok to split this small pool of players, you aren’t looking at the big picture here. we are not orlando, atlanta, philly/ny/nj, etc etc etc. we are a small city with a small player base (im bundling OP into this). if we are talking about casuals being split between jax and OP, that is one thing. with money on the line…that is silly. you will never have full support at both events and your goal should be to have that support.
let’s say that jeff, brandon and i decide to support only one ranbat. what do you think it will do for the other ranbat. there are three possibilities. a: it does nothing. b: players decide to drop one ranbat and go where the best players in jax are playing. c: scares people from coming to the ranbat we visit and causes people to go to the other ranbat (laugh if you want to, but i’ve already seen this happen here in jax). the last scenario is what worries me the most. having the other ranbat available can be used as a crutch to runaway from playing against the best vs staying and learning to get better. if you don’t think this is possible, you better look back into what happened during my tournament series.
please don’t come back with this rivalry thing either. there is no one in OP that can rape the top players in Jax and that is a fact. if you want a rivalry…combine the two areas and go after gainesville, tally or orlando. i have been preaching this for two years now.
in the end…do what you guys want, but please don’t think that more is better. quality is better than anything.
lastly…you cannot tell me that OP players wont come to Riverside of all places it’s like 15 minutes from OP.
@ spektrum I love you man (no homo). I wish everyone in our scene had the passion that you did.
At this point I don’t think anything is going to disuade tyger from having his ranbats at UA and birds! and I are going full force with the HH ranbats. Hopefully you will be able to support at least one of our ranbats. Let the market decide for Season 1. We’ll make the necessary change for season 2.
@ everyone, The ugly truth that in that there is distinct possibility that both UA and HH may not be available to us in the future (eg. go the way of War Dogs, Docking Station, The Armory ). Now we are blessed with 2 locations, tyger is providing monitors and fronting prizes, im buying systems and providing prizes and birds! has provided this location to us and provided great support. We have outlets and equipment for us to level up and grow our community. Lets get the old guard and the new kids out to these events. Get hype and get out at least one of the outlets.
Hmmm. I’m taking Spektrum’s opinion very seriously. He’s got some experience obviously.
It never occurred to me that certain players of a certain level could potentially choose a place and that it could create a weird rift. I don’t think that way so I didn’t see it as a possibility. I tend to want to play everyone once I feel comfortable with my personal practice routine in a particular game.
I guess I’m all for the test runs still as I’m a big fan of experimenting and verifying results… even if there is a lot of experience telling you one thing stuff does change over time… but at the same time, how long is long enough to actually “test” if this is occurring? IF it occurs can it be reversed? I don’t really know.
Doing one season certainly won’t be enough to tell how healthy a particular JaxBat (lululu) location is but two bad/small seasons in a row would be pretty rough for a location…
I dunno I dunno. I guess we gotta be stubborn and feel it out for ourselves. Worst case scenario is one RanBat stops and that location refocuses on something else… Something less frequent than the other I guess. Either way I’ll be sitting up at Hammer Hall every Sunday I’m in town… even if it’s just me alone or with two of my friends (when they actually show up).
@ Sying
Everything you are saying sounds awesome. I’m excited for all of it and can’t wait to see it all come together.
As for 7 vs. 5. If you think about money and how it works these days… most people having debit/credit cards and what not… having to get money out… There’s very little difference between 7 and 10 dollars. So I dunno. If you really wanna go that way I’ll support it. Especially with all those prizes going in. Whichever you decide. I guess it would make a 5 and 2 split really easy to do though… I still don’t think paying out big weekly on a RanBat schedule is as important as the end payout.
Instead of discerning through everyone’s posts, I was just wondering if there was anything going on this Saturday evening in Jacksonville area (or south Georgia) for me and my friend to go to? We are pretty casual, but we’re not super bad or anything. He plays AE and MvC3 and I play Mvc2, Mvc3, T6, BB, etc.
So what’s going on?
I think there is a tourney in Tallahasee this weekend, there is a tournament in Orange Park September 3rd. Check tyger’s signature from a few posts back. Starting first week of September there will be small weekly tournaments and casuals after, in Riverside and Orange Park ( check the link in my sig)
I did get a peek at that Tallahassee event, but that’s out of our range. We live on the border of GA/FL in Kingsland/St. Marys. If anyone’s doing anything in the next week and a half in Jax, though, we’d be happy to travel the 45 minutes or so to get there.
Every Sunday. Park and King. 32205. $5 bucks casuals. If you are here for a week and a half starting today you could come twice. Otherwise you’ll have to pick a day and see if anyone wants to set up a “meet”. A few have gone down randomly the last few weeks in here. Maybe someone will pop in and offer.
I think I can hold you to this…
Is it the last Sunday of the month?? I would guess so, but tyger has a tourney the very next Saturday right? Just making sure it is the 28th and not the 21st…
Either way I will come get my stick and enter one of the 2 big games…
Thanks!
AE, Mvc3 and 3s casuals at my place Sat starting at 1pm. 3s will be on pc.
