Thanks to all you guys who came out. There are still a lot of people who don’t know about these weekly meetups. If you guys use facebook or twitter, post about it on there to spread the word.
Hope you guys have a good turnout for the tournament next week. Ill be in vegas!
So didn’t get the chance to go to HammerHall on Sunday, despite the fact that I was in JAX (it was either go to HH or make it home, one or the other), but had some great matches with DRUNKHAWK and Jarbo while I was up there. When I can afford to go up there again (and remember to bring my setups) I’m definitely gonna be up in there
Alehouse was just a meeting to discuss future business plans. Meets weekly are at Hammer Hall Games and Underground Alley. Check the spreadsheet for info and contact information.
Speaking of said plans I have a new question for you all.
Say theoretically we moved into the space where the old Six Pockets was on Beach Blvd. It’s the same complex as Sahara Cafe. Would you travel there to game and attend weeklies/tournaments? What about to attend music shows and other musical attractions? This venue would offer simple foods and beverage including beer and wine as well as arcade and console games.
Let me know what you guys think about this location.
I’d go to play games. Music, maybe. I’m less likely to go if its dubstep vs say, beach bars music. I’d be done to go though, seems like perfect location for me.
Music wise we’d have different music on different nights. Nothing planned specifically, just an idea at this point. I am looking at this location though as a possibility.
Music is tough because it’s just so divided right now. I can’t think of any one form that most people find acceptable. Plus I’m surrounded by like 5 different music oriented bars so I kind of get my fill. As far as arcade/console games though, fucking absolutely. The location is probably pretty smart actually because of it’s proximity to the “town center” as well as the college/dorms. I’d say you could easily flyer that area and bring in a healthy amount of business… especially if you keep the beer cold. Yeah man. Not a bad spot at all.
edit: Crosspost. I guess as long as the music doesn’t distract from the games it sounds cool. Running a music spot and a game spot though are two completely different models with very different concerns/audiences. You kind of have to choose a focus in my opinion. For what it’s worth almost none of the bars in town do music right so if you could pull it off… cool… but… I’m highly skeptical. I’ve yet to see a well done sound system or even half decent acoustics anywhere in the city aside from maybe the jacoby center or the florida theater. My point is it takes alot of dedication that alot of people can’t seem to muster.
Now if by music you mostly mean DJ stuff… well that’s another story altogether.
The music department is being handled by my fiance. She has many years of experience as a bartender and booker for venues in Jacksonville. She knows a lot of bands local and national and has a good ear for acoustics. Music is totally dependent on each persons taste and sound so I understand you completely on that aspect. As far as having a gaming and music venue I was planning on the music and gaming be centralized on different nights and for different events so as not to conflict with each other. For instance I wouldn’t schedule a show and a tournament on the same night. It would be one or the other. Also the acoustics and stage could also be used to help showcase tournaments in the venue such as grand finals and stuff like that. There is still a lot of planning involved and I appreciate the feed back so far. The more the better!
Well she has been part of the Jax music scene since she moved here about 10 years ago. Since then she has worked at numerous places such as O’Charley’s and the like, but she bartended and booked for the pit for a while and was responsible for some of their top grossing shows. She just has a mind for that side of the business as I have a mind for the gaming side.
If she booked for The Pit I’m sure I’ve talked to her before.
The “second” Pit right? Near Regal. Not the original that Tim ran out in Riverside I assume.
Cool. Small world.
Sounds cool. It was probably only ever email or phone communication but it’s always good to meet/talk to a music person in this city. It’s so thin in these parts. We all end up working together at some time or another.
@ The Priest That location looks good. Good sq ft, and from loopnet it looks like the rent is not too bad. Good parking and on a main road. I’m wondering if you would have to retrofit it much? PM or call me man!
@Everyone who is coming to the tournament . Not sure when we are starting, but I’m bringing my laptop and monitor so we can view the tournament (and so I have something to watch once you guys bounce me out after a 0-2 showing)
