Jacksonville FL Thread - We have a Fighting Game scene?

yo yo! dang i miss all yall. especially when i get messages about tourneys ;/
And having casuals at Tilted Kilt would be dopeness. I can imagine having a setup on the projection screen at the outside bar…GOOD GAWT!!
and the staff out their is very nice lookin…mmmm girls in short kilts…HEHEH.

I barely ever get to fire up the xbox on anymore, been so busy with tryin’ to get my ass back in shape. Once I’m done conquering Kernan and Beach blvd I’ll need to get in on some MK and AE action. Keep this shit goin yall!

No Hammer Hall for me. Something came up. Hopefully next time. I want to put faces to these screen names. Haha.

GG’s to King and Jason (mage) the other night. Its been too long guys. Lets not wait so long next time. Wake up Ultra Chun was EXPOSING all of us lol! But thats what we get for talking so much lol. Are there gonna be casuals next weekend? If so i’m in there.

Sorry I had to peace out early from HH yesterday. Found out I had to be up early for work and had somethings to handle before I had to sleep. Good games to those I played though.

Can anyone mod a Hori VLX.Premium (Xbox 360) for PS3?

Good games everyone. Thanks for coming out to Hammer Hall last night. The owners seemed mostly happy with everything and excited to be bringing people out for “social gaming” as they called it. Chris got on to me a bit about not keeping tabs on the door fees so I’m going to go ahead and get some wrist bands so I can keep track of things easier next time. The clashing with the magic tournament shouldn’t be such a big issue from now on. They only meet every other Sunday and they are going to start their tourney two hours earlier from now on so that when we arrive they will already be winding down and leaving. So we should have a bit more room next time is the point.

Also special big thanks to Tyger who saved the night by arriving with three or four setups at once and giving me a ride to pick up the extension cord. You are awesome dude.

He won’t be around this coming Sunday so we need a few people who can commit to bringing some setups. Initially we only had two and it just wasn’t cutting it.
I can still bring one and I believe mugen can as well… I’m trying to buy an EVO monitor but I don’t think it’ll happen before this weekend. So anyone willing to bring some stuff please let me know.

OK, sorry for the emergency, there should be no issues this time. I have 1 evo monitor and am getting a alienware monitor if dell gets their shit together. I may sell the evo monitor to you if you want. Anyways, i’ll be there this week. I can’t wait to get bodied in AE and MVC3! I’m only bringing the 2 monitors and 360 cause unless we are going to be playing arcana and and MK its a big pain. What say you birds!? What was the turnout last week?

That sounds good. We’ll just have to spread out the setups and get more people to bring one. So we are up to 3 or 4 monitors so far.

The turnout ended up being waaayy more than anyone thought. I never got an actual head count as we were sharing the room and some people were in and out or didn’t stick around too long, but for the bulk of the session we probably had somewhere around 20 people. Counting people passing in and out and coming late or earlier maybe around 30? I don’t really know. I ordered some wrist band things so next time I’ll actually have a real count. Either way it made both the Magic players, ourselves, and the store owners realize we kind of needed the night to ourselves more in the future. So that worked out well.

As for how it looked… We ended up slapping together about 4 tables in an L shape along the back and rear wall. At the height of the event we had 2x MK9 setups, 2x MvC3, 1x AE, 1xTekken6, and then someone started playing BB on some end setup that came out of nowhere and then later 3s, VS, and Alpha3 on some of the other setups after people thinned. It was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

You look up Toodles VLX kitty pcb?? I was going to use that to mod mines.

Casuals at Hammer Hall was awesome! Jeremiah, thanks so much for help getting that set up. I hope you guys are able to provide some setups and monitors for next Sunday! Unfortunately, I will be in Ohio for a dance game tournament. I should be back for the casuals on the week after.

I have a meeting with Tilted Kilt tomorrow evening. I’m hoping to have some casuals there on a weekly basis. I’m aiming for either Mondays or Thursdays. It would probably be a 6pm to whenever deal. I’ll keep you guys updated on how that goes. If it doesn’t work out, I’m committed to find SOMETHING! So I’ll let ya’ll know.

Has Jacksonville EVER had any weekly ranbats? I’d like to get that started.

GG’s to trey and king. I have no idea about that makoto matchup man. I’ll have to play you again in the future to get more experience against her. You put me on notice this time…but next time…

Tilted kilt still have that back room where local bands/ dueling painos played? It was directly to your left when you entered like a little club. That would be perfect for a event, although it has gone through 2 major remodels since I’ve been there. I’m down for either day after this semester is over.

Wow alpha 3? Old school for sure, makes me nostalgic for some killer instinct gold.

What do you think about recording/ streaming? I’ve got a pretty beastly desktop for recording, just need to install a black magic card I it. I don’t know if the owners would be wierded out by that though. Maybe when these things are more established. I have no clue what I would be doing, nor aspire to be the next spooky, just want to maybe get some exposure or at the very least get some matches recorded to go over so I don’t get bodied as bad.

I actually have a bit of knowledge on that subject (video encoding and streaming stuff) from working on film and sound/music projects and web design/coding with peers a lot over the last decade or so. I was actually thinking about it (streaming) from the start because it seems like a fun project but I’m definitely of the mind that we should wait until it’s more “established” before we try and do something like that. The owners are very happy right now and everything seems to be going forward ok I just want to make sure it has a pretty stable group of people showing up and that they are fine with us taking up even more room and broadcasting their place live to the interwebs before we even start planning that kind of stuff too heavily. I do have a parts list of the things we’d need to order in terms of HD capture cards and what-not though… so I guess I’ve already cheated a little and gotten ahead of myself in that department… .but yeah… I am indeed thinking about that stuff good sir.

What are the specs on the PC btw? Just want to compare it to my current rig. Also I’ll have to remember to casually ask them about their internet speed. That’s a huge factor in all this.

Birds is there anyway I can get that list of equipment you need for streaming and what not? I’m going to be using the stuff for use at home and I really don’t know a whole bunch about it. I’d appreciate any help you could give.

Hey ill buy that monitor from you. I need one to take to evo…

Great thread with info on streaming.

Actually spektrum is the man to see in Jax.

Pc specs:
Core i7 2600
Ati radeon 5770 1 vid card <-- weak
8 gigs ram
Blu ray reader

As I said I need a cap card or external solution, maybe a groupshare on a happaugue 1212? Lol

hdmi streaming is a must these days imho. certainly when you consider the items you need to purchase to use an asus monitor and hd-pvr. just not worth the money.

the only downside of hdmi streaming/capturing is using the ps3. due to the hdcp encoding, you have to use component or purchase a HDFury converter.

Spektrum, you must have heard us say your name! Spek to the rescue!

What upgrades to my rig would you suggest, also do you suggest a portable solution a la “blackmagic intensity pro” or internal card, and if so which one? I rememeber having a conversation with you and you suggested wirecast for webcasting software, which is out of my budget as of right now, may go with a lower cost solution, as i am fronting all of this from the Bank of Sying.

Thanks in advance spek, you’re an asset to our community, especially for scrub noobs like me.

your pc specs are good and the BMI card is tops. they also have a new USB 3.0 external box, but unless your MB has the USB 3.0 built-in, i would go internal. there is a cheaper option for internal hdmi capture, but it doesn’t have the option for component input like the BMI card does.

i used the hd-pvr for recording/broadcasting and hated the resources required to use it. it was a big pain in the long run.
