The roll is definitely very invulnerable and gives amazing crossup potential, from what I’ve seen in the vids. I’d take a wild guess and say that you could probably cancel out of normals/specials with it too for even more shenanigans. What’s even sillier is his range on the paddlesaws; you can do one of his jumping normals to crossup since it arcs both up and down, as well as in front and behind for safety if you need it. The zombies look a bit unsafe (especially the “suuuuumoooooh” ones) but can also lead into some pretty good mixups and setups. As for assists, the only one I’ve seen so far is the cart, but it looks great (albeit also unsafe).
Overall, good character with slightly gimmicky playstyle, solid normals, and tons of potential.
EDIT: I think I’m going to try Dante/Frank/Doom or Frank/Dante/Doom. Jam Session/Plasma Beam are great tools to help Frank get in and do some SMILE combos. Could potentially go for a Dante combo lead-in for a TAC’d or DHC’d snapshot with huge PP. That… sounds really dirty.
It’s unfortunate that he lost the other two versions. But now that he has less shitty assists to play with, it should be fun to roll around like before.
Seems a bit like 3S Q’s “health gain” taunt if that’s true. But Q’s gain is actually defense gain and not actual health gain so your health bar doesn’t actually move. Would be good to know whether Frank’s gain is red health or max health since that could completely change the situations you’d want to use the level up combos in. Save them for a bit later to gain back health or land them asap to get the most out of your higher health total?
The roll was :d: :d: L/M/H in TvC. L went forward with the least distance and invuln, M went the farthest of the first two and had more, and H went backwards with the same distance as M.
Gotcha. I never played TvC, but I heard Frank was pretty bad so I watched a character breakdown of him on youtube a day or so ago. He didn’t seem THAT bad, but he’s definitely just plain better in MvC3, tournament viable, even!
Frank’s problem in TvC was his terribad normals and having problem getting it, but otherwise he’s REALLY good and if you’re willing to put the time in him he’s definitely tournament viable in TvC. Check LL.ND’s Frank.
And to show how deadly Frank actually is in TvC

Basically, if Frank touches you = you’re dead. It seems to be the same case with level 3 Frank in MvC, but with better normals, options and tools.
I’m thinking that Frank might go well with multi-hitting assists, like Iron Man’s, because it locks them down for a rolloport mixup and adds to the hits in your combo.
Yeah Frank’s a character where he’s so much better to have a team based on around instead of using him solo. I’m thinking of replacing him on my Wright team and make a team around him instead, but I’ll still play Wright/Frank/Hawkeye casually.
A beam assist or even a good projectile assist would definitely help him. I’m thinking of using Strange for his Bolts of Balthaak assist in second slot and for my anchor it depends since I want an assist that can hit after camera OTG for a relaunch. Perhaps Taskmaster but I’ll see in two weeks.
Frank/MODOK/Doom is probably what I’ll try. Missiles may be able to pick them up if I time it right and then I can get a picture or two while they are hit by Missiles.
Well, the list of moves and weapons that he could possibly wield during level 5 could go on for about a mile. Anyone who has played the original DR knows that he has a huge list of moves and abilities once you get high enough level. Not to mention some of the end game equipment, like a certain iconic weapon . . .
Honestly, I am just hoping for the glowing blue business, as well as the addition of a lv5 hyper. Even if these things are not present, I am certain that Seth showed about half of what Frank can do at best.
Yo. So excited for Frank. After thinking about if for a while, the idea of playing him second and tagging him in with a TAC from an easier to get in with character for a guaranteed level up seems really interesting. Buuuuuut, i was wondering if you could take it a step further. Instead of doing a TAC, would there be enough time to hard tag FW in after a grounded hard knockdown move (like Skrull’s rolling hook) and otg with the camera for a level up? Then you won’t have to risk the TAC and you can still probbly follow up with a super for a ton of damage.
That would be godlike if you could do that. I’m curious to know if he could zone easily with his zombies as well. I’m interested to see how durable his zombies really are.
you could probably tag frank in for multiple pictures with dorms ball of death and trishs round harvest super im still holding hope that you can picture after the wallbounce from the shopping cart.
Around 11:20 they mention that one of Frank’s assists is drinking what I think they said is orange juice, but I don’t know what it would do. Maybe it’s just his drinking move? Seems like a pretty lame assist if true.
