It's not quite that time yet: SRK Secret Santa Suggestions

Only suggestions I have
-Valaris should get some secret santa elves to help run.

-Wishlists are an awesome idea. Just have them shipped to yourself if you want to get creative. It may cost a few bucks extra to send them, but the creativity and thought is what will matter to a lot of people.

-While I think there should be no minimum amount to spend cap the max cap should be 100-150.

-Valaris and I will sponsor Cryoh for Secret Santa. He’s good people.

also i can cosign on cyroh

I like the idea of people chipping in for a consolation gift if someone gets screwed over. I haven’t had it happen to me but the idea IS to give a gift, so that way at least no one is left out.

Also, I don’t see any reason for maximum’s personally, but then I’d never have $100 to just give to someone lol

not in the clique IMO

What was ignored Gabe? I’m taking every suggestions under advisement at this point but it seems the max idea is being universally shut down.

If someone is spending a lot of money over the minimum amount with the primary motivation of also receiving a gift that is a lot of money over the minimum amount, he shouldn’t be giving such an expensive gift because he is very likely to be disappointed. Therefore, a maximum is a dumb idea.

imo.

Lothar your words have spoken my heart

can i put boel in my wishlist

If I allowed that, this whole thing would become The Annual SRKGD Boel Exchange.

Stickying this for now.
Sign ups will begin October 12th.

WTF is up with the min or max.

15 is fine (not including shipping), you can still find a good book or something for that price range. Hell, for 15 you guys can go get me a nice fleece when on sale from Eddie Bauer.

Wish list are stupid. Instead of detailed wish list, it should be vague list like, I watch horror movies, own a ps3 and 360, etc etc. Having a wishlist plus a minimum price, like 50, how some of you have said, pretty much means you are buying the shit yourself. 50 minimum + detailed wish list, get that shit out of here.

The same goes for setting a maximum. How are you going to dictate how much i spend on a gift. Oh someone got butt hurt from spending 100 and only got something that was worth 20, well sorry kid but you are missing the point. If you had 100 to give to someone, you may as well have gone out and bought what you wanted for yourself.

If i get someone who has a detailed wish list, you can go fuck yourself and believe i will not look at it. Some of you guys are sure losing your creativity way of thinking.

Yeah, I don’t agree with a maximum. I usually drop a grip because I’m able to. I was able to find something rare that I knew the person would appreciate one year and having to kick that to the curb because of a maximum would have been terrible. I also agree that detailed lists should be ignored. You tell me the kinds of things you’re interested in (ie, comics, sculptures, etc). Don’t tell me you want the fifth edition megatron hand carved porcelain. Leave maneuvering room and don’t be disappointed if the person gets something else.

Someone got a football card during one year I think. Stuff like that can’t be tolerated.

Wish lists are cool, especially if you live in another country.

I second the whole detailed wishlists be ignored as well. And if you’re gonna be doing a non detailed wishlist thing, please make sure ppl put down what they kinda have if they have video games or movies or comics down so that you don’t get doubles.

Looking forward to be part of SRK SS this year!

Personal opinions:

  • I don’t agree with the max idea, partly because I don’t feel that it makes other people feel bad for what they gave (I always give the same gifts, humble, but completely custom made with 100% love by myself, and people have always liked them, and I don’t feel bad because someone got hooked with a 360 from LVP), and partly because who knows, I might get hooked with a next-gen console from LVP or someone else :P.

  • If you want to apply wishlists for online sites, go ahead with them but don’t enforce them. I don’t even have a CC to buy stuff online, and I still rather spend the $30 on shipping to make sure the person that gets my gift gets something made specially for him/herself.

  • About international shipping, I know that SRK has its roots in the americanadian community, but I think that everyone should be willing to ship internationally, to help foster relashinships all around the world. I think this is the main reason that scares some people, I think last year it was me and Reno the only ones, and I’m the only “true” foreign guy in this thing; I’d like for it to become a worldwide good will gesture, something the SRK is known for in times of need.

PS: rcaido, remember to have a “special” wishlist just in case I get to be your SS :stuck_out_tongue:
PSS: Does anybody knows if premo SS is already accepting signups? I want to get on there too but I have to buy premo time, and I need to get a friend with CC for that.

I’ve actually been considering joining this year, so I’m hoping '08 becomes the cutoff date.

Any suggestions as to what time frame I should enforce and any idea if enforcing a tracking number is actually viable?

imo it should start towards the middle of october and gifts should be sent around first week of december.

We DEFINITELY need a minimum, and for it to be higher. I got stiffed 3 years in a row, with people sending the bare minimum LATE as hell. I made sure my SS’s got cool stuff though.

I think some people sign up for these SS’s hearing about the awesome presents other SRKers give, then think they have a chance to rake it in while not giving more than bare minimum.

$30 minimum, no maximum, banned if you miss the ship date; and you MUST put delivery confirmation or some sort of proof you sent it out by the last ship date (delivery confirmation is like a few cents extra, so there’s no excuse around it).

We want people participating, but we also want to dissuade people who just want awesome presents without giving awesome presents; or in bad financial shape and participate anyways, sending their stuff super late.

EDIT: Enforcing tracking/delivery confirmation numbers is easy. Participants just have to PM you, and it has to show up as valid, and shipped from the same general area as the poster.

I think delivery confirmation is pretty fair. And if you’re too cheap to pay for it, you’re too cheap to participate in this program. I mean, what? You can get shipping confirmation without paying for priority mail, right? Then even if you just go first class with delivery confirmation, that’s not going to put a huge dent in your budget, and if it is, maybe you should worry about your own self before trying to be responsible for a Christmas present for someone else.
