It's not quite that time yet: SRK Secret Santa Suggestions

Man what about enforcing shipping this time around. I was the last freaken person to get my gift, i think it was in Feb or March.

I also think its mandatory for everyone to post pics the gift they bought or at least post pics of what the other person got you.

I also dont think people buying a $20 gift card or $20 PSN/360 should participate in this, be creative w/ $20 or dont join. I mean do some research for your Secret Santa, like i did w/ my previous years…Read what they like…Or add some humor to it, ive given loofahs every year so far!

ooo I want in, but I need someone to vouch for me :frowning:

Damn, I was getting excited about actually getting to participate in Secret Santa this year, but completely forgot about the join date cutoff. >.<

I’m in, regardless of the stipulations.

…shut up, Valaris.

You were a fucking life saver, don’t worry this year though, your name is pre printed on my sign up sheet :stuck_out_tongue:

I need to find an efficiant way to enforce shipping. International kinda kills a set date because they need more time (Kane Bluriver gives AWESOME gifts but those things take 2-3 months to come in from Chile). I’m very open to suggestions on this.

I still <3 you.

Valaris <3 you too if you can rig it so Ragingstorm gets me…

I think the best way to do the shipping is to have everyone ship it before the 1st week of December ends! Put Delivery confirmation & have the person send that too you, if people dont do it by then, set the ban hammer! No excuses this time around! I hope i get a gay guy this year, i got a cool gift in mind!

Maybe raise the minimum to $30. $20 doesn’t really get you much these days.

I wouldn’t like a cap, because I like seeing people go all out and seeing what other people get. If someone gets an especially awesome gift, I’m happy for them.

I’m down for Wishlists but not for price ranges. I like the surprise.

Now THAT’S flare!

On another note, whoever I get will be either laughing or hating me. Val already knows what I’m doing for the SS I get. lol. This is gonna be GOOOOOOOOOOOD.

I personally think $50 is good for a minimum. I mean, it should be all possible for someone to be able to put back $50 within the time span of ~3 and a half months (if the typical “ban” deadline of 1/31 stays in play).

Wishlists from major e-tailers: Good idea. It’ll keep people from receiving an ambiguous “…uhhhhh, vidya games” wishlist, and try to work with it from there. Something more broken down like

  1. System preferred
  2. Favorite genre/s
  3. Games you already own

…wishlists will even omit THAT necessity, if it’s implemented.

Also, this year, no favorites/cherry-picking SS for a particular recipient or recipients. Make all SSes truly random (with the exception of who’s willing to ship internationally, possibly).

I just thought of a nice idea: If someone, God-forbid, gets miffed this year, everyone who was a participant chip in $5 or whatever amount for a consolation present–that pretty much ended up happening last year, except for only a couple of people (or more/less) actually chipped in and bought a present for the non-recipient. I think that’s the end of my ideas. I look forward to participating in another SS this year.

Set a min, not a max.

If someone chooses to go all out and splurge, they should do so without any expectation of receiving similar treatment. Not everyone can afford to do that.

I urge people out there to NOT join the SS on a whim. Don’t join if you’re constantly broke and trying to make ends meet. no one is going to look down on you for not participating.

i like the idea of wishlists. I’m not sentimental or creative and I hate trying to figure out what to get someone

Well, I was gonna post my thoughts, but you just summed them all up.

I’d love to join in in secret santa again this year! when is sign ups likely to happen? This should be stickied. I’ve been checking GD for secret santa every few days for a while now and I only found this because of TT secret santa.

I think a maximum spend is a stupid idea tbh, however I do think it should be a rule to post what you received. I spent about $80 last year and the guy that got it didn’t post to say that he received it or anything, I was slightly disappointed but I have no regrets on how much I spent and would most likely do it again.

Also I think wishlists are a good idea but only as a guidline. Being forced to shop at specific places would be too restrictive.

dont take this wrong guys, but a minimum kinda makes sense, as does a maximum. If people wanna go over the maximum, you got no right to be pissed at others for being less generous than you. Some of us are in school, have other responsibilities, etc etc.

I completely understand how much of a dickish thing it would be to get like a 10 dollar cd when u bought a kickass gift for somebody else.

Hence why I liked Valaris’ suggestions idea. Just make 3-5 suggestions of things that are between 30-80 bucks or whatever, and your santa can pick for you.

I just wanna be involved cuz i think this is the nicest thing ANY fucking forum does, period. I got nobody who can likely vouch for me, but I would gladly give directions to my house so the recipient can come beat my ass with a shovel if he gets salty

a min max is cool. I will participate this year. i say 25-75. Just in case somoene wants like an xbox game or something.

ah yes, totally ignored as usual…I’m out

You know it would be a cool experiment to take out any min or max for 1 year and instead place an absolute like everyone has to spend exactly $20 or whatever amount. Forces creativity in gift picking and is a compromise for everyone.

Weeks said it, a minimum. Chalk me up for that too. $20 value before shipping (like say I got a game for someone on sale Black Friday and normally it’s $40 but I end up getting it for $15. That’s what I mean. Or I give away something of value)?

Just throwing this out there in case anyone forgot

imo you should not be able to have things like video games on your wishlist, you can buy a game with a 10-minute drive to gamestop, and we all know gamers are extremely impatient when it comes to having to wait to play a new game

the thing is, for some of you christmas is all about being creative and thinking outside the box to get someone something super special, that’s fine.
for me, it’s more about being generous at a certain time of year to a stranger with no thought of getting anything valuable in return. the ‘creativity’ about it isn’t that important, it’s more about the gesture of the gift.

so you can have your creativity and i’ll have my structure, thanks
