It's not about how much you play or win. It's about how you play to win

Lot of wise words being spoken here. Hope people can read the wise and ignore the ignorant.

I think the problem is seattle has a inflated false ego. Im trying to deflate that shit and get us back on track.
I think this is the next step for seattles evolution. SEATTLE IS ALL HYPE, NO SUBSTANCE.
thats what im trying to fix. and im out of ideas, so im posting angry talk.

I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with HYPE. You have to have HYPE to play the game.

Props to mandel and mickey for their posts.

 Or if you’re just rich. Do you think any of us would pass up the opportunity to practice with people in Japan? Let me just drop thousands of dollars on plane tickets and a place to stay, then drop what, over a dollar a game to get my ass whooped by someone with whom I can’t communicate over and over until I learn to play better. Please just… stop. You can tell who comes in this topic and posts without reading anything because there’s about 12 posts that have the same PRACTICE ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT with the ultimate street fiters and you will win life.

A majority of our players are not at a level where getting their asses whooped over and over with no communication will help their level of play, anyway. We’re looking for a more realistic approach.

When I used to practice with eman and dugg a lot for our TW matches, our matches would devolve into us testing and learning one aspect of the game… we didn’t really mean to, but we’d get to the point where we couldn’t jump at each other because our anti-airs were 100% in said matchup - so it turns to strictly footsies. Not only is this hella fun, there’s a lot to be learned about your normals. I have played countless rufus v bison matches that were strictly on the ground. There’s so much more to be learned in the spacing game than taking risks and getting knocked down imo.

Yes, it’s important to learn to react to throw setups/not panic over counter hit setups, but I feel a lot of people have a weak spacing/positioning/footsies game. We run out of ideas and we jump. Now, either the other player lets you jump-in and match becomes a lot easier for the one who understands he gets free jump-ins on said opponent, or he anti-airs them and negates his attempt to flip the momentum. Players who are not taught to stop jumping will never have to resort to the footsie game and will therefore never learn the true spacing necessary to play their character. This is what dugg is saying about anti-air. I know “anti-air jump-ins” sounds simple and like common sense but… seriously. If it’s not a tournament and you’re out of ideas, try something new. You’ll learn one way or another. A lot of characters can use close normals as anti-airs in a lot of situations where people don’t realize that you can. It’s not a consistent go-to anti-air but it’s certainly viable. I learn a lot through experimentation but maybe that’s just me.

Prove that you know your spacing and your opponent will think twice. (Unless it’s online then they will just jump again.) Eventually you’ll be able to pick up on this rethinking they’re doing and that’s your chance to flip the momentum. Catch 'em off guard. Wobbling back and forth and then jumping for a third time isn’t gonna catch a smart player off guard if you haven’t been playing the ground game. It’s hard to convey what I’m trying to say here, sorry if I’m just talking in circles.

seattle also puts too much emphasis on mentality.
mentality isnt tangible. its all in your head. mentality is something real life scrubs talk about to sell books.
real skills come from practice. real confidence comes from practice. real wins come from putting the practice into play.

yall are deniers. realize u suck and go back to basics. stop inflating your egos. stop inflating your friends egos. be real and let ppl know the truth that they suck and they need to level up.

the longer you procrastinate this the slower seattle will develop imo.

Seriously dude? I don’t even know what to say to that. I’m sorry you think like that.

Elias you just posted something which is going to help me out. I played a match against fubarduck on ranked and he didnt need to do much, my own weak spacing and footsies skills basically handed him the match. Right after I lost I realized how poor my spacing still is. I really do run out of ideas and just find a good time to jump for pressure. Mickey once pointed out a long time ago that I have good jumps lol. But I need some serious work on reactions, footsies and spacing. Also I tend to panic against new characters because I can’t recognize their blockstrings yet.

I really dont know much on how to improve my reactions though. My first idea is to know when they can use certain moves and to wait for them, and have an answer ready.

I’m down for some online matches where we just do footsies and try not to jump. I think it may be an issue with character familiarity. We both switch around our character choices far too often for our own good and it makes it harder to make improvements. When you’re stuck with one moveset you really learn to improve upon it. When I haven’t been working on just a character or two, I tend to have very telegraphed/weak spacing and footsies. Especially with all these new characters with normals we’re not quite all used to.

I personally want to thank everyone who even posted in this thread. I’ve really started to look and evaluate everything I do more carefully. I have been watching my habits and slowly working on getting rid of them. I’ve figured out things about myself and how I play and I’m working on paying more attention to what’s going on in every match, I think this thread re-programmed me and how I play. I have a lot to work on to step my game up to the level you guys play at, I’m stoked to come out to more stuff though, for sure.

Man, I feel the exact same way. When I played sets against Bowflex about a month ago or so, it always was just this big footsies/spacing thing, and I thought “is this what Street Fighter is supposed to be like?” I’ve taken a step back now and realized how many matches can come down to just that when your anti-air is solid and you play it safe and stuff: Whatever online matches do or don’t count for, I played some today and did really well just because I was patient and took the matches seriously.

Extremely negative tone with that line, Frank, but essentially…spot on. And before someone calls me out, yes, this thread includes myself.

Awesome. So glad to hear that this thread might actually prove useful. ^^

yep

I know my mentality isn’t the best and I know I go about thinking with this game different than you Dugg (or really anyone for that matter) but at least my way works for me (or has been working). There is only one aspect of my game that I need to work on to really lvl up on a huge scale. I’m aware of it and working on it and I believe I can do it with the way I think. Also I don’t wallow in the negativity or let it get me down, that is REALLY pathetic to me that someone would let others sorrow or negativity affect them. Play your game, learn, adapt, and have fun. I love playing this game. I lost 3-0 to Wong in a MM…I smiled the whole way through. Seeing that kind of calculated offense as well and psychic defensive responses is fun to me. I’m no fanboy but I appreciate this game, and those who play it well. As much as the old school people don’t like it…think back to your 1st competitive fighting game…SF4 is that to me.

Mike I wish you had Xbawx, I feel I could really help your game because looking at your progress is kind of looking in a mirror for me.

I’m planning on dual modding my stick and borrowing a friends’ [xbox] for a bit. We’ll see though. Still saving up for a carrrrrr.

Enlighten us?

That would be winning:rofl:

Man I think you guyz still miss the point. You guys still do not know how to read peoples post and not get all emotional and make some comment on why their post is bad. Stick to the freakin topic.

Why dont ALL of you RE-READ KoreanFranks post. You know what it really said? It said stop talking and start acting…that is all. Stop talking about our potential and start acting, (play different, play smarter). He was also commenting and saying “FREESeattle” Because that is what people were saying on the stream. So WAKE UP SEATTLE, stop shitting on our own people…be RESPONSIBLE for our showing and man up and admit that we all fuckin suck with the way we play here. There is no sugar coating shit

Another problem with seattle, is you want everything fuckin sugar coated and u want people to hold your hand. Frank said some REAL shit, yes that shit is HARD TO TAKE, but u know what, be a man and except that he is telling the truth.

Im sorry mickey, you do NOT get the luxury of having everything be told to u in a nice manner. Look at what he said, re-read it, he is not shitting on anything he is being real. He is not saying that oh…because seattle sucks its hurting the ability of tankaa and cole. What he is really saying is if people do not play smarter and TRY to win, then any elite player stuck in that enviornment is gonna be a little set back because nobody is challenging them.

That is the fuckin truth ANYWHERE!

Wake the fuck UP SEATTLE! Accept that we need to change the way we play and practice. Accept that people lookin at us and giving us advice on how to improve…is not always gonna be easy on the ears to hear. Accept constructive criticism. STOP shitting on peoples opinions.

We are a community that needs to work together!

Cole

what your saying is very true. But Mickey went about it differently because if Mickey would’ve went at it the way KKF did…this thread would’ve been closed because of the aftermath.

I’m basically done posting about this but let’s be real. Why not mention Future? Why not mention Carlos? Why not mention any other good player here? He SPECIFICALLY mentioned you and Tanaka as you guys aren’t even originally from this area. There was no hidden message in that post I’m sorry to say. KKF has always been straight to the point, and so I can say I highly doubt he suddenly decided to post in code. He said it himself “imported talent”. That post was nothing but hometown hate, all the talk of reading posts, he even said that he was out of ideas and resorted to angry talk. I feel like your post probably should’ve been towards KKF and nobody else lol, especially that “stop shitting on peoples opinions” part. Like, I felt that overall, everyone was basically on the same page more or less except for him. <3 you man, but that post wasn’t needed.

BTW, “Freeattle” is still wack. I’ve never seen a dumber phrase ever. “FREEATTLE FREEATTLE FREEATTLE! YEAH WE’RE FREE! FREEATTLE! Why you so FREE B?!” Fuck outta here.

Look, people have my xbl, people have my cell phone #, people have my twitter, people have my facebook, people have my myspace, people have my email address, people have my personal home address, people have carrier pidgeons (lol), if you wanna play let’s go. I already told KKF that posting is easy, action is something else entirely. But maybe he was the only one who said that…>_>. And doesn’t he not play Super like that? I don’t get it, not like people here are talkin about Seattle Tekken or anything.

I wish I had more access to Deezo chun…the distance that separates is so short, yet so vast.

edit: Future…woooowwww

dugg…I just noticed your location either that’s a joke…or your you’ve got a weak mind…or you just think urself free…

I honestly just dont see it I guess in KKF’s post. All I see is him just giving a blunt post with no sugar saying play smarter.

The comment he made about tanaka and me, i mean like i said…take out names and just look at it as…if your enviornment doesnt challenge you to improve…how will you ever progress? How will you ever learn what not to do and what works? If u constantly beat down people with unsafe stuff, and they never challenge u on it, u will start to think it works. Then u go into evo and get beasted on while scratching your head. Its like Scrubby dan telling me sim is weak vs sagat cause I was never able to beat him, then he goes to evo and Arturo scraps him with sim and he is still saying how bs the fight was when it wasnt. I watched his fight, he got out played. Why did he get out played? Mainly his own stubborness, but also cause nobody real was able to force him to improve his game. He wont for free so he thought his shit didnt stink, so it ends up hurting him…and it ends up hurting our scene.

Thats what I see when I read KKF’s post. Now, you let your ego get the best of you and you will read KKF’s post like the way mickey did. Not to shit on mickey or KKF, all im saying is just read posts with no emotion or ego. See what they are really talking about, if u dont understand or u might “THINK” they are saying something negative…then ask them on the thread “what do u mean by this?” Instead of assuming what they ment via txt and going off on it.

Im serious, i dont see any negative posts here. All i see is people misunderstanding peoples intention.

Thats all im sayin, im not yellin at anyone, just saying…read a little more carefully and if u dont understand, then ask the person who posted. Please dont assume the worst and feel u have to yell at that person.
