It'll Be Done Before You Know It -- The Steve Fox Combo Thread

Just a couple of questions. When you guys flicker cancel standing fierce is there any timing involved in connecting crouching fierce (like doing links)? Also has anyone figured out a use for steves gattling gun in pressure? What I’ve been trying to do is condition my opponent to block high with steve’s overhead after stuff like Cr. LPx2. Steves grab whiffs crouchers so when they start blocking high its easier to connect with it. a issue im having though is with people who jump too much (not even in anticipation of the grab), or mash out jabs like a noob does in MVC. Anyone know of a way to deal with these people? Thanks in advance.

i suggest constant cst. fierce and flicker canceling over and over to apply as much pressure as standing jabs do, also im guessing st fierce into cr fierce is a link but not really a hard one.

cl.hp xx flicker cancel xx cr.hp

after cl.hp, hold downback and tap KKK. It puts you in flicker and cancels at the same time. learn that timing.

I don’t know if this anything good for combos but i found if you do c.HP and cancel to peekaboo stance if you press MP fast enough the launcher comes out. I don’t know the uses around it because it only does 160 damage compared to 170 with c.HP xx ducking xx Skyscraper. Just found out and wanted to see what you guys could come up with

only issue i see with alot of these combos is that they start with jump ins. Ive been having a real hard time getting jump ins with steve during a real match. Here something ive been working on though. 464

1 meter :cr. mp, cr.mp xx duck, foxhunt xx ex sonic fang , cr. HP xx lk duck, skyscraper, ducking body,ducking hook,flicker jab - 464 damag

I’m wondering if this is optimal mid-screen off of ex. sonic fang as i’ve been using pretty much either cr. mp xx duck xx fox hunt and boost comboing straight into ex sonic fang for my mid screen damage. Of course replacing flicker jab with cr. mk xx mp sonic fang when im not tagging into raven. Has anyone found more damage for the juggle off of ex sonic fang?

No, and I’ve tried a lot of different ideas! I’ve beat it with cross assault trickery (because you get infinite meter while doing a cross rush), and got 700 with Hugo/Steve team combos, but I’m not sure if it’s possible to do more than 701 solo.

Keep going, you seem to be doing the most creative work. I get put down about the fact that you have to keep everything so simple in order to get so much damage. Dat damage scaling is a doozy.

actually scratch that. i think i can get more then that in a moment.

EDIT: 707 dmg i believe. TV is very blurry to be sure but it’s 700+ and last numbers a 7.

For no meter i’ve improved this juggle after skyscraper. I think optimal corner juggle would be cl. :hp: xx duck xx foxhunt, cr :hp: xx flicker xx cr. :hp: xx mp sonic fang. 5 more damage at 507 but soooooo much more difficult.

Edit: can’t test anything else tonight but last thing i’ve found is that midscreen ex. sonic fang, you can land cl. :hp: xx hellfire dash cancel cr. :hp:. will do more testing in the future but i suspect that ex. sonic fang, cl. :hp: xx hellfire dash cancel cr. :hp: xx flicker :lp:, :db: (flicker cancel) cr. :hp: xx sonic fang may be possible midscreen. Probably optimal for damage if it is. May not be able to test soon though as midterms are evil.

some else i found today. its not to crazy but it could be a good and pretty easy ender

Nice find! I didn’t realize you could get a HP off the foxhunt corner juggle. It’s a bit tricky timing, but it works.

I don’t know if anyone mentioned the number specifically, based on a modified version of its_chubby’s combo, but I think 552 damage is the current record for meterless combo

It might be possible that putting in a “ducking body xx ducking hook xx flicker cancel” between the CH foxhunt and cl.:hp: could break this damage record… but I haven’t been able to pull that off with the rest of the combo. I get mindfucked on the rare times I land the “ducking hook xx flicker cancel , cl.:hp: xx flicker cancel , cr. :hp:” that I never manage to follow it up properly.

Strangely enough, my best meterless combo with Hugo also does 552 damage. I wonder if anyone else in the game has better meterless damage.

Steve can link sLP, sMP, cMP.

new tech: fox hunt xx exCADC (Ex. Hellfire dash canceled) cl. :hp: works. can get FFF off it too. working on seeing if the damage is worth it but it’s difficult

Just a quick heads up. I just got the game today and I was trying to learn Flicker-cancelling for 2 hours straight before I realized something. You CANNOT st.fierce flicker cancel cr.fierce on a standing abel in the corner. QQ. I just thought it was the hardest link in the history of fighting games before I figured that out. Just wanted to throw you guys a quick warning. Abel has one fucked up hitbox. My apologies if you guys already knew this ;D
