[Italy] Videogames party & Gamestop SFIV tournament

This has been the first big event for SF4 in Italy (previous tournaments were local ones).
64 entrants, double elimination

Results from what I remember

  1. Sean (C.Viper)
  2. Shirl (Akuma)
  3. Rushingmonkey (C.Viper/Chun Li)
  4. Maffonz (Boxer)
  5. John Rambo Sly (Dictator)
    ". La Luce (Sagat)
  6. AlexARandom (E.Honda)
    ". SFChampion (Blanka)
  7. Fugo (Dictator)
    ". Fran (E.Honda)

I don’t remember the other 2 players which tied for 9th place, or any result below that.
The venue could be better, no air conditioning and playing on a couch wasn’t comfortable for many players.
At the beginning when I was trying some stuff I went panic cause I noticed lag (and even the slightest lag totally ruins my play style - like that when I play online I lose to people that can’t get a single match on me offline), but it turned out that it was due to the 360s being set at 1080p, and switching back to 720p solved the problem. Apart from those issues and some slowness in running the brackets (I had to wait more than a hour to play my second match in the winners bracket) the tournament was pretty good with lots of competent players and nice character variety. No seeding meant some of the good players meeting each other quite early, while others had an easy ride for a while.
I’m a bit disappointed on my placing, I was aiming for top3 and I was pretty confident I could make it since I was having good results against everyone, but then I met La Luce’s Sagat who suprised me with an extremely awkward style that I’ve never played against before and that put off my usual gameplan in that matchup (later I played him again, and after understanding his style it got much easier. I won’t be caught off-guard again like this); I didn’t adapt fast enough so he sent me into losers bracket where I had to face John Rambo Sly’s mean dictator for a mirror match that went back and forth very close untill he snagged the decisive round (and after that we both agreed that dic vs dict is like the gayest mirror match ever. That was actually the first time ever I won a round in sf4 with time over lol).

Anyways, the sf4 scene is growing and getting very good - looking forward for Italy to be a contender in the european scene.

Too bad I wasn’t in it
