It feels like I need my hand held (or something)

Today I came across some serious questioning about my own game play… I’ve come to realize the reason I take weeks off at a time from 3S is because I can’t seem to get any better. I know, learning from my mistakes is key to my success in this game. The problem I have is… I’m better than a lot of people
(I mean if PSN and XBL count) so it’s like it’s everything I do is right, then the people who are better than me I can only do wrong.

I can’t seem to mix up right, when I try to bait or condition people to things they guess right or eat it once then when I try again with a different set up they see it coming.

Whenever I land shit I’m just called random, and I have a lot of glaring match up issues.

Well, I’m asking, who’s willing to teach or show me what I’m doing wrong. I don’t feel as if I’m predictable at all. You can tell me the smart things to do, you can even tell me stupid little tricks that will help 1/100th of the time. I know a lot of 3S is experience, but I’m obviously lacking some serious shit somewhere and I want to figure out where.

I don’t think I have the training partners, nor do I feel America has the people to help each other get better. I feel as if we’re stagnant where we are at. I know I haven’t reached a glass ceiling. But I don’t have anything to train beyond where I’m at.

Watching videos doesn’t seem to help. I don’t try to play like anyone, but I do try to pick up little things here and there. What the fuck can I do?

Play offline.

Like Louie here says, you need to play offline with people. It takes effort in most cases to make that happen, but if you really enjoy the game, you will make it happen somehow.

Other than that just constantly ask questions about your own gameplay. Never be satisfied.

I know exactly what both of you are saying,… I used to have that.

Well go find it again. Other than that all you can do is work on technique and your overall understanding and confidence in your combos and normals.

If atm you cant play offline, until you find people to play with start up training mode. And by that I mean instead of playing online play training mode and train everything like ken traget combo red parry, ibuki target red parry, necro drill parry and punish, necro spining elbow etc.Learn to react to everything that you see.

Use recording mode and put yourself in hard situations such as when ken jumps and crosses u up, learn what options you have to react with and use them all in game, that goes for other chars too. Learn how to always get maximum damage or mix up after a parry no matter how far off the ground or in what situation you parry a move.

Basically explore training mode fully. Grind until your mind bleeds (well not that much, but its your mind so… whatever). There are literally thousands of options in this game if not more you just have to use your imagination and condition yourself.

For me the most important things in 3s are fast reactions and good game sense . Using this method you train both of them and I can say for sure that you will become better if you really put time into it.

Oh and if you go crazy after too much training and have still no one to play with then go online but don’t condition yourself to its timing and don’t use online tactics that won’t fly if you are against someone irl.

Also, smoke lots of cigarettes and hate everything.

Posting vids of your matches and having people critique them might help.

why not start playing sfxtk most of the 3s players are falling in love with the damn game for no reason …

Pretty much what Roboto said; just practice your combos and all of your options. Like say; you’re fighting someone who’s gdlk at red parrying, what would you do after you jump in? Train for shit like that. And 3SOE sucks dick but at least you can record the dummy and it gives you a good chance to practice red parrying like Yun’s 123 and etcetera.

Die

Songo we played last night and I spent the majority of our set playing Dud mirrors with you explaining you how he should be played, while pointing our your weaknesses. I wouldn’t mind doing this for you if you can set a time and day, I even thought about recording it and making it a video for others to learn from. That sounds rather pretentious, but I think it would be cool if other people could get better at the game from commentary on our games.

i dont support this post because smoking is bad for you and makes your mouth smell awful and who wants to kiss someone like that unless they also smoke.
it does look cool though.

Make another video please

I really was going to make another tutorial video a while back. I got a friend to help me cap the clips online, which is so much harder than doing it with someone in person (what I did for the first video)… but I lost all the footage from my hard drive burning out. Now I just feel like nobody gives a shit about learning 3s anymore, but what I mentioned earlier would be easy, I’d just have to talk lol.

I’d be cool with that. I’ll get back to you on it.

If you’re on live, I’d be glad to play you. On this note up here ^^^^^… Online, people try to parry everything. If you’re getting parried online, take that with a mountain of salt. The results offline will be entirely different. If you’re having trouble mixing it up, there’s nothing scarier than not doing a damn thing sometime and see what your opponent does. 3rd Strike is a game of subtle psychology. Treat it as such… That or just play erratic. It works for me a lot… But I take a beating because of it too. I’m not a very patient player so I tend to be absurdly offensive the entire match so my advice may not be the best advice but I’m far off from a novice but a litte away from being a pro. (Currently in that "advanced-advanced intermediate, I can win a local tourney if I play my style perfectly).
