Issues with PS3 disc version of USF4

I own disc copies of USF4 and SSF4 on both XB360 and PS3.

The XB360 versions of Ultra and Super work completely fine, independent of one another. Super is updated to AE2014. I have all the costume DLC that was available in that game.
Ultra basically has whatever I had in Super. Same icons, same titles, same DLC. Both on Version 1.11. If I stick in Super, I get AE. If I stick in Ultra, I get Ultra.

On PS3, it’s a totally different experience.

I’m trying to run USF4 and SSF4 AE, both on discs, as separate entities, since I have some PSN friends who have not moved to Ultra (yes, I know).
SSF4 was, at one point, upgraded all the way to USF4.
To get SSF4 to a point where it could run AE, I deleted the SSF4 data in the Game Data Utility, and reinstalled all DLC, including the AE upgrade, but not the Ultra upgrade.
AE works just fine with the changes. It updates to Version 1.11 with no issues.

My disc copy of USF4 has since been sluggish loading, IF it loads. It struggles to update to Version 1.11.
There was a point that I had deleted the SSF4 game data, only upgraded Ultra from disc and it was working fine.
But as soon as I tried to bring the SSF4 disc back up to AE 2012, the freezing and non-loading from the Ultra disc reappeared.

My assumption is that the way USF4 is recognized as a PS3 title relative to SSF4 and AE is causing the issues.

Is it possible that I just have a bad disc? Is it possible on PS3 to run both discs like one can on 360?

… Ok,

So I figured out how I needed to make this work. I needed to install Ultra SFIV before anything else.

If you have a SSFIV disc but bought the upgrade to Ultra, but then later bought an Ultra disc and would like the two games to operate independently, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Game Data Utility and remove all SSFIV/USFIV related items (if you have vanilla SFIV data here, it’s OK). If you had a previous save for SSFIV/USFIV in PS3 Save Data Utility, do NOT delete it. It’s recommended to back it up to USB if possible. Only the SSFIV/USFIV data in Game Data Utility should be deleted before proceeding.
  2. Insert and load USFIV disc.
  3. Install any updates for USFIV.
  4. Start USFIV.
  5. Go to Options > Install.
  6. Install USFIV to your PS3 HD.
  7. Go to PSN > Account Management > Transaction Management > Download List and download all USFIV related DLC.
  8. Install all USFIV-related DLC to your game.
  9. Insert and load SSFIV.
  10. Install any updates for SSFIV.
  11. Go to PSN > Account Management > Transaction Management > Download List and download all SSFIV related DLC (including AE Upgrade if you have it).
  12. Install all SSFIV related DLC.

A pain in the butt to get this to work, but I rarely install my games to the PS3 unless the game requires it anyway.
