Short answer, no. Defensive play is a key part of every fighting game, you have no reason to be ashamed for playing to your strengths. Furthermore, “turtling” in the SF4 series is quite good as a strat since it is a sound bet that your defense is stronger than the average player’s offense. Bottomline, ignore the haters and continue to play and enjoy the game.

if they complain about it, it’s because they can’t break your defence and need to step up their game.
Its only bad if you are losing!
If people are complaining, you are doing something right.
I consider myself to be more of a defensive player and regularly incorporate turtling into my strategy.
I love how scrubs will just spew forth attack after attack, unable to break my defence, growing madder by the minute. This causes them to make rage-fuelled mistakes and allowing me to take the advantage.
Turtling is a legitimate strategy, but against players of an intermediate skill level or above, it needs to be combined with other tactics, in my experience.

Turtling is a great strategy. Frustrating to fight against, but it works. Go for it! 
Whoever tells anyone that turtling is “bad” or “scrubby” or anything of that nature, they are a scrub themselves. That usually means that they just dont know what to do against turtling. honestly, do you expect to win (think sim, blanka, seth, chun) by using rushdown all the time. yes i know seth has a great rushdown game but his low health doesnt allow him to do it all the time against certain characters (prime example gief). it really boils down to knowing when and how much to turtle in each matchup.
I find it hilarious that 99% of epic turtlers shit themselves when you flip the coin and turtle against them even for a short amount of time. Stop being a boring douche and fight, it’s a fighting game, if your defense is that good you should be able to use it effectively while attacking as well. Turtlers are one dimensional. The better fighters I’ve seen zone, they don’t turtle. They have offense other than waiting for someone to make a mistake. You’re going to come across someone with better defense than you eventually, if you lack offensive skills you’re fucked. You’re going to get raped with no Vaseline. :lol: Y’all stay free.
