Is this SNK's greatest game?

Mmmm there is no need to bash Capcom games, they have their own purpose, yeah they may have a different point of view now because of the casual gen but they try to take advantage now because of the new trends of the market and when they focus on that is really hard to please everyone.

Anyways i would like to see a new Samsho as others said, and NO 3D this time please.

Jesus, a new SamSho with KOFXIII’s level of graphics and fluid gameplay would be GAWDLIKE. Haohmaru’s badassly drawn sprite alone totally makes Esaka 96 in XIII :stuck_out_tongue:

And yeah I don’t mean to bash SF4, they did help usher in this new surge in fighting games. It’s alright as a fighting game, but compared to the evolution from SF2 to 3rd Strike, it’s just a HUGE step backwards. KOFXIII feels more like a true spiritual successor to the golden age of fighters from the 90s. But MVC3…yeah…no…

Well, to each their own. Even if I consider KOF XIII to be the real thing, I prefer SFIV and SF alpha 2 over every iteration of SF2 and SFIII.

The fact that the online is playable helped SFIV being the mainstream game though. KOF XIII on the other hand…

Yeah I don’t think SNKP realizes how bad they messed up with the online. It’s almost like they either didn’t expect KOFXIII to be so well accepted in the States, or just didn’t care and half-assed the online. I mean seriously, no lobbies, no spectator, horrible match-making and netcode, they gave new-comers no shot at learning the fundamentals appropriately online to sharpen their skills possibly for tournament play. Even some pros who play tons of SF4 online unfortunately won’t give KOFXIII a shot because there’s no chance at learning online. The good news is that the game’s still super early and they got plenty of time to patch the online, the bad news is I don’t think they’ll actually rehaul the entire infrastructure that’ll be necessary to really improve it to GGPO/BB levels.

So how does that explain Marvel and MK?

Marvel is Marvel. It’s an US religion. Even if the game was crap (some will happily say it was), it would have sold.

I don’t really consider MK to be mainstream, but whatever.

MK is definitely mainstream. It made a huge splash in the arcades (some even consider it more iconic than Street Fighter II - I honestly laugh at such a thing, but there are seriously folks that feel that way) thanks to all the violence as well as the secrets, and people still have fond memories of it. Memories so fond, in fact, that it allowed them to overlook all the unmitigated crap they pushed out after UMK3 and still be legitly excited about MK9.

I work retail. We still have people buying MKvDCU. I’m dead serious. People won’t buy the latest SF or MvC, much less older versions, but I get about 1 MKvDCU sale every week.
