Edit: now that april fools is over…wanna say well played TFS
Official??!!
Only if Goku is no longer the main protag,
Make it about Gohan or Android 17, or Freeza, give Freeza a redemption arc.
Not seeing anything official online right now aside from a rumor that coincides with the picture
He’s still official… Pretty sure that’s from the new arc in the Manga
That not what I am asking
Does not matter, Goku will just lift some weights, look constipated, and beat the new baddie though some contrivances
Buu has finally awakened in the manga.
Edit: They also referenced their fight with Broly in the DBS movie in the manga.
Didn’t watch the movie, I also forget the newer movies are now canon.
Back in the day the movies and even some filler arcs were worthless
Freeza redemption arc? NO
Japan loves Frieza even more then the west. There is a reason he has been brought back as many times as a secondary Z fighter and got fancy power up form despite being a big bad.
Yea, that don’t mean he need to be a hero tho. Toriyama said Freeza is irredeemable, making him a good guy would ruin what makes him a good villain
His appeal is that he’s a scheming, tyrant, genocidal piece of shit and we love to hate him for him. Freeza is just fine in his role as an opportunistic, instigator
So. 350 dollars for this and they need 3000 reservations to even be able to produce it (which is fucking silly). And the footage in the trailer appears to be the usual ass looking Funi HD remasters from 2007 but in 4:3. God this is so disappointing…
They’re out of their fucking minds. Literally no dbz Collection or any anime collect for that matter is worth that much.
The fact they’re crowd funding it is even more ridiculous and outright insulting to the fans of dbz and the fans of their company as a whole. Especially when they’re a multimillion dollar company.
Fuck Funimation.
I was expecting it to have way more content such as the OVA, specials, and movies. Toei has already remastered the movies and they are currently available digitally on Amazon Japan. It’s just really odd since Funi co-announced this with Toei themselves just a couple months ago. Like. I hope the trailer footage is just a placeholder and that they end up using Toei remastered footage. In 2019 there is absolutely no reason for Funi to be using their own footage from shitty third generation sources instead of Toei’s.
The box set itself looks nice but not for the price. The stock images for the artbook don’t look promising either. I want an artbook of actual production art and not awful looking Funi promotional art. The statue is cool but will most likely get it’s own separate release under a different paint job like most “exclusive” figures do.
Even Geekdom101 of all people is advising people not to jump on this yet. Lol
EDIT:
Man, AnimeAjay is pissed off. Lmao.
Meh that’s becoming a trend now. It makes more sense in general. Why produce shit no one or a select number are buying or make enough for people who want it
Then simply don’t do it. Or if you do, don’t hold it for fucking randsom
Nah that’s not how business works. Gofundme approaches has been the wave for a few years in business in general not just anime. You don’t lose money and if more people want it, then you are good to go. No investing its pretty much paid for on the production side
So Funimation posted a blog giving some detail regarding their remastering process for the 30th anniversary release.

The before images look so much better than the after images that it’s hilarious. Their grain removal process removes so much texture and detail. They also explain the reason for zooming in on the images to hide the damaged edges of certain frames but the zoom is obviously too much. It needs to be dialed back a bit. Then they also fucked with the colors as usual. Gohan is turned into a pink hue in one of the after shots.
In all honestly if they were just to put out a bluray that resembled most of the before shots then I think a lot of people would be happy with it.
Never heard of the guy but kinda breaks down the response from Funimation on the set. Has some good points.
