Is there lag online? Bought it already, but haven’t played live yet
the lag is somewhere between cvs2 and mk:d
Meaning it can be laggy as hell or smoother than butter in hell. The only time I have had laggy games is when the other person I was fighting with had a crap connection. Other than that it has been lag-free(I know it’s impossible to have lag free games, but when I can’t block an attack at the very last second, before the hit hits me, I consider that a damn good connection) or very closre to it with slight delay. So all in all I would say I have had 88% of my games lag-free or very, very, very close to it.
I have a ? tho’. Is there anyway for Team Ninja to release some kind of patch to better improve the online play for everybody?
It is either really smooth or in my experience really really laggy.
Just depends on the speed.
I believe DOAU is set to run very well online.
Now, maybe it’s that some people can only host so many people… or there’s the “bad apple” theory - when a bad apple joins, it ruins the whole bunch. So, the first moment a room notices lag, they should try to get the last person that entered to leave. Or, when you enter a room and it appears to be laggy when you are spectating, don’t stick around. Move on to a room where the matches you are observing are smooth. To me, that seems to represent a green light. For the most part, this has been satisfying for me. I’m sticking to that script, and I’m getting some damn good matches in return. I never played MK:D, but compared to CVS2 and especially Guilty Gear, this feels nice. It could be better, but I will not complain. I’ve seen many offline-like connections within about 80 matches of online play.
I’ve been playing non-stop since Friday afternoon, and the vast majority of my games have no noticeable lag at all, with occasional hiccups of slightly-noticeable lag. Here are some pointers:
-
Join a game with 4 or fewer people in it. More players = more lag.
-
I concur with the “bad apple” theory. I’ve had flawless games go bad when some new guy joins the lobby, then go back to flawless when he leaves.
4 or less people? Does that mean like 2 people watch while 2 people play, then one of the spectators plays the winner? In that case… suweeeet.
Yup…
One little stupid ass hiccup can change the whole momentum of the fight. It fucking sucks sometimes losing to some button masher fuck or even someone good cause of a lag spike that fucked up your mixup. You go to start a high low string then it lags and you end up getting some unsafe string instead and die.
Yeah, I ran into one laggy match and it was pretty damn bad and choopy as hell. However it pales in comparison to the lagginess of this damn message board. Goddamn, how much can the server be busy at any given time. Sheesh!
or your opponent is able to see the move and mash the correct counter and counter the move when they would normally not have been able to.
Lag is a problem online, but I think it just depends on your connection. I’ll go through 5 or so games lag free and someone will join and it gets all lagged up. At times like those I just slog through the match and find another game so no big deal. And yeah, avoid people who don’t have American flags next to their names and also people with a bunch of Chinese symbols in their names - these are good signs there will be lag in the game.
I tend to get real mad when I lose to people who don’t seem to be very good but win because of lag.
