Is there cheapness in SF?

lol that made me look dumb :stuck_out_tongue: but i guess i was complaining, i just was mad at his comment is all, ok ill shut up now :wgrin:

Have you ever played ST? Not STHD, but the original ST.

My goodness.

Street Fighter HD Remix is pretty cheap.

Itā€™s only 15$.

Hey! That Hooligan Combo came from all the way across the screen and grabbed me! THATā€™S CHEAP!!! :looney:

In before lockā€¦'cause if thereā€™s such a thing as mercy (and I think there is)ā€¦this thread needs to be closed mercifully.

Dude

Saying something is ā€œcheapā€ is actually just a way to say ā€œLook I canā€™t beat it so am gonna whine all day how fucking broke the whole game is and blame God knows who just not myself.ā€

Hell yeah there is cheap shit in this game. The levels of gross in ST are what make it awesome.

Of course there is cheap shit. Itā€™s underhanded exploitation of glitches not meant to be in the game. Itā€™s cheap bullshit. This is a fact and inarguable. Weather or not it is broken is a different matter entirely. Is there anything wrong with using cheap shit? No, not really.

Though it does make you look like a complete douche if you are playing certain people.

Iā€™d used stored super on my own mother, and I donā€™t think Iā€™d feel bad about it at all.

Who?

Measure cheapness by how much something costs in thought and effort against risks and rewards.

Picking Honda to beat a Cammy player is a bit of a cheap tactic. It requires much less effort on your part than it does the other player. You risk less and youā€™re rewarded more, it costs you very little thought or effort comparatively. However, your win is not guaranteed (ā€œfor freeā€).

So yeah the shit exists. But itā€™s hard to draw the line where you say this is cheap and that isnā€™t.

Iā€™d like to append a question to this, although low risk high reward is cheap in a useful or good way, what are the opinions of those here on random things? Where if both players do attempt a throw at the same exact frame, there isnā€™t some kind of reliable mechanic for determining what happens, I would classify that in a more negative category than excellent zoning or repeated traps.

Play to win. D Shirlin

Again, itā€™s a game about positioning yourself for optimum effect. If both players are going to let themselves get put into a position where the outcome is determined by a seemingly random roll of the dice, then they reap what they sow.

Iā€™d say if itā€™s not in the game (i.e. turbo) then itā€™s cheap. As for what you can do in the game, Iā€™d say itā€™s fine, because you too can technically be cheap.

If you use an unintended system glitch for an underhanded advantage (throw loops werenā€™t intended for SF2 but they can be exploited) then it is cheap. Cheap does not mean broken, as throw loops are escapable with reversals and such. Your Honda example isnā€™t cheap, it just exposes how good/stupid Honda is vs. Cammy.

So only unintended stuff is cheap?

Hawk is still close to bottom tier in vanilla ST even with the throw loops. Itā€™s more just smart playing that he can take what he can get. There are situations in the Honda match up that donā€™t require a fraction of the investment in skill and thought that are just as hard to punish evidenced by Honda being just as hard a counter to Cammy even without his oicho loop.

Combos were originally unintended, kara cancels were unintended, juggling was originally unintended. And I donā€™t remember bringing up broken, cheapness as I said is what you invest in something weighed against its risks and rewards, if the cost is little and the reward is great, you could call it cheap. Broken would be when thereā€™s absolutely no risk or effort involved and you still reap rewards, that would be for free.

do what it takes to win, enough said

there is no ā€œcheapā€ in the game, only frustating and difficult situations. There are no cheap players in the game. Since both players have EQUAL OPPERTUNITY to use such tactics. There are only players willing to use the game and its tactics to its full potential, and those who refuse ( or in most cases not skillfull or experienced enough) to. Look at it like thisā€¦ if your a runningback in a football game and you decided not to wear your helment for a play. You start running and you get fuckin creamed by a linebacker who obviously and should be wearing one. Are you gonna get up and start whinning and complaining ā€œthat guy has a helment on and I dont!!! this is not fair!!!ā€ No of course not you would sound like and idiot. You both have equal oppertunity to wear a helment, you just decided not to and he was smart and wore it. So dont complain about that guy for using all his protective gear. Ive found that most the people that say im cheap are the people that are not experinced enough to know how to get out of so called cheap situations and people that are not skillfull and experinced enough to acutally perform so called cheap tactics. Now cheating is totally different story.

Thankfully, complaints about cheapness are the exception rather than the rule in the FGC.

You want to see what happens when the thin-skinned manage to dominate a culture, play some Dark Souls - Poise is cheap. Lightning is cheap. The flip ring is cheap. Backstabs are cheap. Backstabbing someone youā€™ve just backstabbed is SUPER cheap. Ripostes are cheap. RoF is cheap. WoG is cheap. Knocking people off of ledges is cheap. Not bowing before a fight is cheap. Double teaming an invader is cheap. It goes on and on.

What the fuck is cheap? The only thing cheap these days is the price of the game.
