I ask because I have the Madcatz Fightstick Soul Edition which has the Namco Noir layout but I want to play on arcade cabs which use the Vewlix layout for buttons. Are the layouts similar enough that I could easily hop on a Vewlix cab and starting pulling off the combos I’ve been grinding out endlessly on my own stick?
last two buttons are bit higher up than on the noir, but if you only use 6 buttons like real men, it won’t be any problem
it ain’t that big of a difference anyway
Vewlix layout typically has the stick placed much closer to the buttons than Noir and on Noir the kick buttons are almost directly below the punch buttons in an almost rainbow layout. While I prefer Noir over other layouts I have never had much trouble playing on Vewlix or any other button layout (save for MK layouts).
MK layouts are dick no both vewlix and noir
I think the best I can do is
LP HP Block
LK HK Run
I am 100% a vewlix guy because vewlix emulates neogeo nicely

This is the only actual upside for vewlix, and in the 4 button fighters community this control layout is a minority.
Some vewlix players use the last six buttons because the straight 3x2 grid was the american standard for arcades.
This layout isn’t ergonomic and is awful, so noir not having that isn’t a real downside imo.
So long as noir works for you (technically noir 8 button > vewlix 8 button because pinky) there’s no issues.
I agree about Vewlix being better for 4 button fighters. I only prefer Noir over Astro because the joystick is farther away from the buttons and I find this more comfortable with my Jack Skellington hands.
To clarify, vewlix isn’t better for four button fighters. Vewlix is better for type-B layout for 4 button fighters.
Type A where you use ABXY (using 360 pad notation because there’s no square/triangle key huehue) works the same on vewlix and noir.
I mainly plan on playing 6 button fighters like Street Fighter and occasionally Arksys games. As long as the first 6 buttons are pretty much the same I’m good.
I frequently switch between my TE (viewlix) and my hori HRAP (Noir) I barely feel the difference and can use them interchangably. Agree with everyone above about the first six being similar.
I find the curve of the Noir/Astro layout to be more comfortable.
Hurts my hand after long play times…
It’s personal preference…
You’ll really only notice a difference if you’re using the fourth buttons.
Even then, I’ve never had an issue swapping between layouts.
I notice the difference in the spacing between the joystick lever and buttons in many sticks. In most production cases the lever is spaced farther away from the buttons in Noir layouts.
