I started to use a fight stick and have no problem with charge characters and doing their ultras but i can’t do ken/ryu’s dragon punch or any other character’s moves that require two down, forward circular motions and/or the z motion is there some sort of shortcut that makes doing those moves easier? I will be greatful for any kind of help.
DP motions and double fireball motions are very basic inputs and it’s worth practicing them the right way. Relying on shortcuts will lead to sloppy execution as you move on to more advanced things. Bad muscle memory can be very hard to break. I recommend inputting each part of the motion slowly and slightly increasing the speed until you get the move to come out.
But since you asked for the shortcut:
Shortcut for DP is to double tap down-forward or alternately, wiggle the stick between down-forward, to down-back, then down-forward again.
Thank you for the reply and the advice think ill just learn the basic inputs i dont want any sloppy execution.
The game interprets [any forward direction], [any down direction], [any forward direction] as a DP, so you can more or less do whatever the hell you want and get a DP. Including stuff you don’t want to be a DP. You’ll get one anyway.
There are no shortcuts for qcf, qcf in SF4. The only solution is to practice. And you should avoid relying on shortcuts anyway - these things are not actually hard, they are merely foreign - that is, things you are not used to doing, not things that are hard to do consistently in a more objective sense. The more you rely on shortcuts as a crutch, the more you lock yourself to playing SF4 only and will find it impossible to play other games should you ever want to. If you build proper muscle memory from the get go, that hurdle becomes much lower.
I feel like sometimes, there is use in doing the shortcut versions of some moves (like Fei Long’s DP) on purpose for strategic reasons, but not because they are shortcuts. It’s best to learn who to do them properly and then move onto tricks later for specific reasons.
