In terms of ignorant violence the 1st Broly movie is where its at, They were getting straight fucked up until the last 3 minutes
As far as story, Bardock and Trucks movies are the best IMO

Yeah i saw that part of the anime, i was just asking. Not every costumed fighter poses in japanese anime. I just thought he got some inspiration to do it.
I always assumed his inspiration was the Ginyu Toksentai. He was on Namek fighting them when they were doing all that shit and he picked it up from them.
Is it the ACTUAL reason? Most likely no, its Toriyama parodying Mazinger Z poses and shit. The BEST explanation and most obvious one would be that he was mimicking the heroes he saw on TV and comic books, but in that outback neck of the woods Gohan didnât watch TV or read comic books.
Thus in terms of making it make sense in the canon the Ginyu explanation is the best.
I think gohan knew about superheroes in his teen years. also, if you could fly and punch shit really hard wouldnt you do the same thing? I know I would, complete with silly poses.
And really, who could stop you? Nobodyâs going to make fun of your gay moves if youâve just busted a car over somebodyâs head.
Anyway, reading deeply into the superhero gimmick is as pointless as reading deeply into the name puns. Toriyama just did it because he found it amusing.
Vegetto wanted Buu to absorb him, so he could rescue the rest of the Z-Gang, iirc.
Again, youâre missing the point. The films werenât created to flesh out the storyline, and bring a new, board, thought provoking complex to Dragonballâs super duper deep (lol) plot. They were/are summer flicks/quick cash-ins, aka fun without thought. With that in mind, as history will clearly point it, it did itâs job.
Next youâre gonna compare LilâJon to Beethoven.
I agree!!
and Iâm not being the least bit biased because Iâm a Trunks fan.
Bardock isnt one of my fav movies but the story was good.
Anyone else enjoy âWrath of the Dragonâ??
I feel so bad for Vegeta, he always comes on the scene talking shiznit then 2 seconds later=ass whooped lol, it happened in Bojack and Wrath of the Dragon and speaking of that, Vegetaâs attitude change wasnt doing it for me as the show went on, this started happening in the Babidi,Saiyaman etc etc stories he just wasnt the same I like arrogant, trash talking mean Vegeta.
BTW Season 7 11-11-08 Piccolo makes the cover whoo hoo!!
The image of Broly running past Trunks and Gohan with a double clothesline before delivering an aerial combo on a K.O.'d Piccolo will follow me to my grave
Broly was clotheslining ALOT of people in that movie. I can recall most of them from memory starting with the one you mentioned. Gohan sort of caught one when Broly busted through the wall like the koolaid man and smashed his head against the wall, drove him through itâŚSIDEWAYS while dragging him before finally flinging him the rest of the way. Goku caught at least 2 of them, the one I specifically remember being the one that Broly did on his wake up which was funny as hell. Vegeta caught that shit the worst in that movie though lol.
Videl caught a rude awakening in the second movieâŚWhat a way to introduce yourself to a lady lol.
yeah Vegeta got his shit pushed in
its a trap!
So I say theyâre garbage, and you say theyâre good because they succeed at being garbage. I think the conversation is spinning its wheels.
And the plot of the series isnât the point. If you boil it down, each story cycle (or saga) is all essentially the same formula. House M.D. is a pretty good analog: if youâre looking for plot, youâre just going to see the same one over and over again. Every single episode is the same as the one before it. But what matters are the characters and the themes. Theyâre what make the stories interesting.
Look at the number of people Goku comes into contact with from the beginning of the story to the end, and look at how many of their lives were positively impacted because of it. Yeah, Dragon Ball is superficially all about battles and comic fantasy, but thereâs way more to it than that. Taking it at face value is a big mistake. In the movies, however, face value is the only thing it has.
As I said, a couple of them have redeeming traitsâthe way movie 12 refuses to take itself seriously, for example. But for the most part, thereâs no reason to watch them aside from repetition and pretty colors, and you can get those things from an episode of Blueâs Clues.
Why not? Fair game, I say.
movie 12 owns
No, I think most of them are damn good. What I am saying is your approach to the Dragonball films is incredibly off, as youâre looking for something from something that isnât trying to even offer that something you are looking for.
Youâre over-analyzing the shit out of the films, marking them for everything they didnât do, but werenât trying to do in the first place. And in the process, your ass canât enjoy them for what they are.
No, they arenât trying to bring a whole new angle to the plot line. Stop talking about plot. Everyone knows they donât have shit to do with the plot. Period.
Simply put, they are there to appease Dragonball fans, who want to see more fighting/action, and people getting their shit wrecked, minus the 160 episodes. Also, itâs filler during the periods new episodes were being created.

Team 4Star can do no wrong with the funny.
Haha. Wow. Itâs kinda sad that I like Chaotzuâs Abridged voice infinitely better than his dubbed voice. Useless little bastard.
Itâs also kinda of sad that I didnât even think that they could wish for what Shenron suggested until I saw the title of this episode.
Lastly, at Freizaâs edit and Mr. Popo screwing over everyone.
I never got how that works.
âShit, we need more time to create the new episodes of people shouting one place for 30 minutes!
I know! Letâs make a movie in between!â
Sometimes, itâs due to the Manga not being quite caught up yet. Like, Toei waiting for Toriyama to begin the next arc. Sometimes, itâs simply a nice way to cash in on the franchise over the summer.
No, what Iâm saying is actually quite simple: the movies lack in just about every area youâd expect a good movie to do well in. Youâre right in that they donât aspire to be anything but brainless action, but brainless action is not a good thing. The fact that they achieve their dubious goal only makes them acceptable if your standards are ridiculously low.
The only thing that separates the Dragon Ball movies from utter sludge like Max Payne is that they take place in the Dragon Ball universe. Actually, Max Payne was a little more developed than your average Dragon Ball movie.
Iâve never heard anything about this. From how Iâve understood it, the movies were summer events to help promote and cash in on the anime series. The filler episodes of the series (e.g. Goku and Piccolo driving) were the ones that stalled for time while Toriyama produced more manga.
(To the guy who was asking, one new half-hour episode of Dragon Ball was broadcast every week during the showâs original run. At this pace, the animation studio was adapting episodes of the comics faster than their creator could produce them. So the studio would come up with original episodes that didnât have any consequences on the larger story arc, and they broadcasted those to give the comics time to catch up.)
