Hes actually a pretty dumb fighter if u think about it. When Vegeta was getting raped by 18’ he justs rushes in the battle swinging his lil sword…and ends up getting KO’d in 2 hits 
only good thing F.Trunks did was kill Frieza and King Cold.
I won’t lie Trunks got beat up alot
but he’s the only one who thinks very very carefully before he attacks his opponent.
Even if he gets his ass kicked in the end he thinks it through first to try and be successful

He brought the medicine, Goku lived to train Gohan, Gohan beat Cell, and Goku got rid of Cell.
So really, if you think about it, Trunks saved everybody… by three degrees or so.
Really, aside from serving the plot by bringing news from the future, and by giving girls something to buy on a wall scroll, Trunks is just another Saiyajin character who populated the latter era of DB at the expense of the previously established characters.

Oh yeah and Kid Trunks rocked.He cheated(Played to win)during the the budokai tournament and in general had this arrogant know-it-all demeanor.
Teen Trunks and Future Trunks were too soft.Understandable about Future Trunks,but Teen Trunks had been hanging around Vegeta for 16 or 17 years at that point.His personality shouldn’t have changed much from Kid Trunks
^Vegeta is soft soooo…Trunks doesnt have much of a choice to be soft as well.

As for goku…remember the flashback vegeta had when he was explaining how he went ssj for the first time? well thats when.
