Upon going back and watching just the Goku vs. Vegeta fight alone in japanese…I’d have to agree. They made some questionable changes to the script.
Edit: When English dub jeice gets hit in the face by Goku I found it hilarious…They had him crying a whole lot more and sounding more like a bitch than when funi first dubbed that scene.
Yep, Scott is with Ocean and he’s still considered to be THE true voice of Piccolo by many fans. In fact, when he’s at anime conventions, he is often asked to sing Brak’s ‘I’m a Cucumber’ song in his Piccolo voice.
Yeah, and I gotta agree with you, ‘Rock The Dragon’ got me fuckin’ hyped every Saturday morning!
The Mega Man cartoon was not crappy. It was actually the best Capcom cartoon that came out back then. (Street Fighter, like the movie, was lame but unintentionally hillarious. “This is DELICIOUS! YES!” Darkstalkers, on the other hand was terrible.)
Okay, so the show DID have its moments, but I still found it to be mostly bad. One of the worst episodes was ‘Robosaur Park,’ where Dr. Wily reprograms robotic dinosaurs at a theme park to go berserk, which seemed to be a perfectly feasible plot, until Wily decided to unleash a computer virus that turned robots into cavemen… Ugh, that was bad!
EDIT I agree about Street Fighter being funny, though. Did you notice Damnd was “jacking on” in the ‘Final Fight’ episode? Oh, and what about those FUGLY paintings of Ryu and Ken in Gouken’s dojo?

I adore Scott Mcneil like crazy and I love how he can change his voice up so much, I think he tops my list for best anime VA…well it’s between him and Matt Hill, but I prefer the Funimation dub of Piccolo over the OG dub.
I hate Trunks voice in the OG dub
mainly because it sounds so cheesed up,
in the Funi dub, Trunks gives off the attititude of a young well mannered and sweet boy who feels lost and so sorry for what happened in the future, Eric Vale made me a believer when it came to Trunks unlike the other dude:arazz:
but the two Bulmas and even Maggie Blue O’hara sounded alot alike to me.

Goku - Sean Schemmel. James Ian Corlett is a very close second.
Piccolo - Scott McNiel hands fuckin down. Chris Sabat tries too hard.
Vegeta - Brian Drummond. Strike 2, Sabat…
Kid/Teen Gohan - Both I didn’t like, but if I had to choose…Saffron Henderson
Bulma - Tiffany Vollmer’s made Bulma sound all the more annoying. Lalainia Lindbjerg’s Bulma was a bitch.
Yamcha - Ted Cole hands fuckin down. Sabat made Yamcha sound like moron…while Ted made Yamcha sound like a cool dude.
Krillin - Terry Klassen > Sonny Strait
Future Trunks - Eric Vale hands fuckin down…whoever did Ocean’s Trunks was bad.
Ginyu Force - Ocean’s > Funi
Frieza - Both were horrible…but Pauline Newstone’s Frieza was funnier to listen to.
Also upon rewatching this and looking at your post I realize that I hate Guldo’s Funi voice.
I also didn’t realize how much of a bitch Chi Chi was…I was actually getting reeeeeeally pissed off at her after the saiyan saga cause of the shit she was giving Goku. I nominate her for the stairs. Oh and here’s a quote I never quite understood…
‘I hope you guys are wearing clean underwear, because you’re about to take a trip to the emergency ward’~Captain Ginyu in Goku’s body
One scene I get a laugh out of is after Goku finally offs Kid Buu. They find out Fat Buu is still alive. Vegeta moves in for the kill. Convo goes something like this.
Vegeta: Still alive? I’ll finish him off!
Mr. Satan/Hercule: No, please! He’s not evil, honest! He only got angry because someone shot his puppy!
Vegeta: Oh and what if he gets pissed off again?! Then that’ll really be the end of the world! That’s not how I roll, son! Now step off or I’ll give you some of this too!
Nah, Drummond just makes him sound incurably insane.
In fact, there used to be a great fansite called Vegeta Insane!/Ginga Giri Giri, which was basically inspired by Drummond’s unhinged interpretation of the character.
Not really. He’s a stuffy, prideful, jerk, and his royal background also gives him a haughty attitude towards pretty much everybody. You can tell the difference between when he’s just being his usual self, and when he’s truly pissed off about something.
Well, maybe not with the American version. Sabat doesn’t have any dynamics in his performance. And in spite of how entertaining he is, Brian Drummond doesn’t really capture Vegeta’s personality either.
Anyway, I had a question or two about the series overall, but I forgot what one of them was. I’ve yet to remember it after four days, so I’m sure it’s “gone” for right now.
My other question was simply a question of the title.
Considering that “Ball” and “Jewel” are the same word in Japanese, is the title really “supposed” to translate into “Dragon Ball” or was it supposed to be “Dragon Jewel”? “Dragon Jewel” seems like it makes more sense, but then “Dragon Ball” goes right along with the spherical shape and the amount of gentalia jokes in the original series.
So…?
Oh, and about the Roshi thing from earlier: To clarify, I knew that he was a pervert, but not that much of a pervert that he would grope someone in from of one’s daughter. Disgusting.
Also, I’ll reiterate that I’m pretty sure most, if not all, of those scenes were simply cut out of the TV dubs.
