idk about marvel, but in 3S, having one button throw/throw breaks, one button EX moves, one button uohs would be stupid.
i’d bet on 3 people to place within the top four guarranteed!!
btw, i dont think macro should be allowed cause it can account for some (slightly) easy RCing in cvs2.
You guys are just beating a dead horse, Evo is allowing Macros. Check this thread here, you guys missed it:

Nobody is going to give up an assist in MvC2 for a one button dash. I am personally considering drilling an extra button for PPP in 3s, so I can do my EX moves at 100%. But even then I’ll have to get used to using it before EVO.
mvc2 will turn into a magneto macro fest.
Thongboy: Slash Sol > #r Sol, this is beyond question. His DP does way too much damage. Actually, come to think of it, Sol wasn’t even top 5 in #r…
And with the allowing of macros, I personally agree that banned console-only characters should be legal. But then, I prefer whatever makes the most logical sense, as opposed to tradition.
Seems like right now, this community is having a problem defining what’s “in the game”, exactly. Capcom players always went by the arcade standards, as have the Guilty Gear and Virtua Fighter people. However, the Soul Calibur community was the first to use console as the standard; the reason was that 1 and 2 received significant balance fixes on console that legitimately made the games better (sounds exactly like KOF XI), and 3 of course was console-only for a long time. And now with arcades dying and console becoming the standard everywhere else, we are facing new questions.
My own personal opinion is that we should use Sirlin’s “playing to win” approach and allow everything as long as it doesn’t completely destroy the game. ST Akuma, 3s Gill, GGXX Kliff…these are all quite possibly ban-worthy. GGXX Shadow and Gold characters are obvious bans. EX and #r characters, Shin Akuma & God Rugal, Justice…from a balance standpoint, I see no reason to ban them.
And banning something because it makes the game worse is faulty logic. I think most 3s players would agree that the game would be far better without Chun-Li and Yun; even Ken and Makoto have a lot of close matchups at least, whereas Yun and Chun rape most of the cast for free. There’s also T4 Jin, T5.0 Steve, SC3 Xianghua/Sophie/Cass, HnK Toki…all of these games would have been better without these characters, yet they were never banned.
The problem with this, which I could understand, is that this is radically different from Japan’s rules and it would give us an unfair advantage to force them to play by ours. But haven’t FMJ and others said before that our community is so different from Japan’s, and maybe we don’t need to use the same rules?
As I see it, the two logical ways to go here would be “playing to win”, or banning all console characters and macros in an attempt to follow Japan’s standards.

I see it this way;
When you’re playing on an arcade stick, how often are you going to miss EX moves, UOH or throw? The answer should be never. The way the buttons are mapped out allows the player completel control.
Take a person with a pad however and without macros they’ll need to bend and contort their fingers into the correct positions, possibly messing up the move in the process. In such a situation allowing macros wouldn’t necessarily be an advantage but would pit the stick/pad players on the same level.
This may not apply to all games however.
I think some people are confusing macros for programmable combos, but that is definitely not the case. Macros for console games are more Px3/Kx3/HP+HK/LP+LK/MP+MK and so on.
This hits a particularly personal note for me since I am a pad user (at home on console obviously) and I use Px3 and Kx3 when using Remy for access to EX moves. Obviously I don’t do this when playing in the arcades, but moving my fingers around constantly to position for an EX move is too restrictive on a pad.
i know 2 people that will easily give up assist 1 for a 1 button dash, no questions asked. i can back up money matches for them as well.
It’s true, Assist 1 is an easy choice to replace with a macro button. So I don’t get to call Storm… does it really matter that much?
IMO, given that EVO is the #1 worldwide tournament and it’s already been a console tournament for several years, I don’t think this is a bad thing. But what do I know.
Can’t you just double tap forward?
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
#R eddie? thanks
I hate #R Eddie, but is he really more unbalanced than O. Sagat? There is an argument to be made to allow #R characters, especially since there is a scarcity of Slash discs and Japanese / modded PS2’s in the US. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one in my city with Slash, so it’s an advantage to me when I play anyone here. If you allow #R characters, it at least makes the game accessable to US gamers.
Truth is, without a US release of Slash, the GGXX community has no chance of growing. That’s a whole other issue though
in the air rushing down? if its a serious question, the answer is no.
um #R eddie rapes everyone for free, the reason he was nerfed in slash was for balance. the game is overall MUCH MUCH better and a “shit” character is able to stand a chance.
dealing with Slash Ky vs #R Eddie isnt even a question, Slash Ky is not only quite beatable but has weaknesses.
letting #R eddie be playable defeats the purpose of even playing Slash. if hes “worse than O. Sagat” why dont we just let everyone play everyone. i mean honestly, they’re not as bad as Akuma in ST! so who cares about how balanced the game is!
Here’s my take on the matter.
For the people who’ve seen me play Guilty Gear on pad, they know that I adhered by the rules of no macros to a tee. Roman Cancels and FRCs are all done by my thumb with extreme accuracy, mainly because I’ve learned how to hit three different buttons with my thumb. Along with the whole Johnny dynamic of mist cancels and whatnot, it’s mind baffling what I do sometimes.
I also have played Street Fighter games a lot, and I’ve learned to hit two punch and kick buttons sometimes with my thumb, and I’m not a guy with gigantic hands, just a crazy average Asian kid who taught himself how to do certain things. I’ve also learned how to do stuff like supers and air dashing with Magneto using this method along with my friends who don’t play fighting games anymore. My method probably won’t apply to guys with big stubby hands, though.
I really think some people aren’t eager enough to try and change what they’re accustomed to, which is what this argument boils down to. Allowing in-game macros won’t change too much except for a few things, but those things are up for debate.
Considering Sim used O Sagat as a whipping boy, I would say Eddie was more unbalanced.
That’s the thing though. Sometimes, that’s exactly what decides the winner.
I’ve seen people lose because they messed up on EXing a move in Third Strike. Think of how important the EX version of Oro’s tengu stone is for instance. Execution is a part of what decides who walks away with the prize money that day, and macros do take away from that somewhat. It’s assumed that your execution is near flawless when you’re fighting at a top level, but even the best players make mistakes that can cost them a match on occasion.
How do all the well known players feel about the macro issue at EVO anyway?
every character in the game gets some from of balance b4 the game is released, but secret characters don’t at all. that’s why ST akuma and kliff are a whole new level above being just “top tier”.
All this macro shit doesnt matter… In the end the top players will place. NOT the kid with the best macros.
