Just been wondering, is the SF comic canon? There have been a few SF Animes/OAV’s but as far as I am concerned those are all non-canon. I really like the SF comic so far, too and I am really wondering wether this is or not.

It kind of has some elements of Canon, most of them are the well known bits that couldn’t really be ignored in an SF comic series, like Ryu defeating Sagat with the Shoryuken, Charlie getting killed by Bison (Sort of), etc.

You really thought the comic was canon? HA! You dummy. It’s an American/English language COMIC BOOK. That much should tip you off. Capcom doesn’t really care much for SF’s storyline. The closest Capcom has have ever come to storyline clarity are in SF Eternal, mooks and “All About” books. Unfortunately, all that shit is in Japanese and I don’t think those will be translated any time soon (w/ the exception of Eternal). My guess is 'cuz Capcom thinks American fans don’t care about that shit. Honestly, Tiamat’s FAQ is the best ENGLISH source for in-depth SF storyline info.
The fact you’d need Tiamat’s plot FAQ in order to understand the story even if you’ve played every single SF game just shows how sloppily put together SF’s story is. Meanwhile the comic has linked everything together rather nicely thus far (except the Cammy/Rose thing), so I don’t mind thinking of it as canon.

Ah, i highly doubt Cammy was anywhere near being a main character when capcom thought of her. Yet somehow she eneded up taking roughly 45% of the undon comic thus far. Allow me to take this opportunity to once again express just how much it bothers me that such a ridiculous amount of time is wasted on a character that (although very cool) is very very boring when exposed THAT much. NO character except for maaaaaaaybe akuma/bison would be interesting enough to take that much space, and of course, since we know almost nothing about akuma/bison, that doesnt happend, but if you think about it, we don’t really know MUCH more about cammy. -sigh-
Bring out the Final Fight crew and stop suffocating the comic w/ so much Cammy. (i’d normally ask to also tone down on the chun-li but at least we KNOW she was actively pursuing shadaloo at the time, and we’ve seen almost no silly scenes w/ her).
Please Udon, give us Final Fight and a (longer) break from cammy![/rant]
btw, the comic could potentially be cannon because although they’ve added all sorts of things, they haven’t contradicted much from the cannon, if anything at all. soooo, if capcom gets lazy enough they might make the comic canon wether we like it or not.
Cammy’s story is pretty important. The dolls and the pycho drive are pretty much THE STORY to the Alpha series. (Which is where the comic is right now) Also, Final Fight characters were in Street Fighter during Alpha, but not past the Alphas and I don’t remember either of them playing a pivatole role anyways. Cammy goes on into Street Fighter 2, and considering her character was developed during the Alpha games, it makes sense she’s a focal point early in the comics.
It IS still early in the comics too, don’t forget. There’s a ways to go and when it’s all said and done, I think more people might be asking “what happened to Cammy?”, rather than whining about her being front and center a couple issues.
Udon’s telling the story they want to tell, why does everyone else think their way is the right way?
You can’t please everyone, but I think they’re doing a pretty good job considering all the plot holes Capcom’s story had.

I don’t really understand all the complaints dealing with the focus on Cammy. Cammy’s story is quite compelling. Within the SF timeline, Cammy’s character goes through the most change. There’s a lot of plot in her story arc.
I have yet to see any good suggestions from the haters and whiners of what characters in the alpha story line they felt should have had more focus. No one’s even mentioned the fact that Cammy doesn’t even appear until Alpha 3.
If you look at it, Alpha 3 had the most cohesion in the storylines of the seperate characters barring the stupid silly endings like Zangief’s (Zangief SPDs E Honda repeatedly to destroy the Psycho Drive =b) Alpha 3’s storyline revolved around two elements, the psycho drive and the 12 dolls. The 12 dolls are basically about Cammy’s story and the psycho drive itself ties in with the 12 dolls (play Alpha 3 a bit if you don’t know what I’m talking about).
If anything, I think the only person that could have been explored more was Rose. There’s a lot of stuff about her that just isn’t talked about anywhere. 90% of the character storylines in Alpha were nothing more then people trying to prove themselves in the Street Fighting scene which makes for a pretty boring read if you think about it.
I would have liked to have seen more of Gen’s rivalry with Akuma but I understand that Akuma’s storyline is probably much more involved later in the series. The reasons why Akuma’s storyline probably won’t be explored fully until the end are A) his story is intertwined with the main character Ryu B) he’s a boss C) he’s stronger then Bison since he Raging Demon’s Bison in his intro in ST D) he’s there from beginning to end (Akuma is in Alpha 1 all the way through 3rd Strike)

From this list, the only characters that haven’t already been explored that have more story then “I want to prove myself as a fighter” are Guy, Sodom, Rose, Rolento, Dhalsim, Evil Ryu, T. Hawk, and Cody.
I find it hard to imagine how to incoporate the Final Fight characters into the storyline as anything other then extras. Guy will probably have to be the bridge if there’s going to be a good storyline relating to the whole Street Fighter arc. Sodom and Cody are probably both chasing after Guy although Sodom might also relate to the storyline through a possible Shadaloo - Mad Gear connection. Rolento is chasing after Sodom and I can also see him making an appearance in the jungles of Brazil what with him being a commando type person.
We’ll probably see Dhalsim soon since Ryu is now searching for him. T. Hawk’s storyline will probably be explored later since his story revolves around Noembelu (one of the 12 dolls… look another Cammy reference!) Evil Ryu can’t really be explored too much now since we’ll probably see more of it in Ryu’s second encounter with Akuma.
