Is the Ps2 version any good?

Which is what I said in my first post.

Congrats on reading.

Considering what I said in my post doesn’t really match up to what you said in your first post, I’d say you failed in your own reading.

I’ve decided to make a small contribution to this thread since I’ve now read at least six other threads with somewhat conflicting reports on this issue. So, I would appreceiate if some of the more experienced posters can confirm or deny the following list of differences I’m posting, so this could hopefully be the last thread of this kind.

  1. More slowdown: especially on the bonus river level (not the snowy one) where the slowdown is INSANE. Parry person mentioned Ice stage?

  2. Alpha Counter glitch: ie charas leaving the screen get hit.Others have all had that “glitch” happen on the arcade and the DC port.

  3. Sprite size Diffs: Mags S.HP whiffs standing Strider at a closer range than in other versions. Some sprites have actually changed in size. (99.99999999999% combos work)

  4. The cyclops assist invincibilty: people say in the ps2 version, he can come in and HIT (while the opponent is attacking, or just starting they’re special, etc) but he goes away instantly since he also takes damage. And in the dreamcast/arcade version, he’s invincible up UNTIL the little optic blast.

  5. Commando RH Throw of Death: Not mashable for as much damage as on DC or Arcade?

  6. Speed difference: Slight if not barely noticeable at all, eg diff timing with ROM, IM Infinite etc? Due to a difference in default speed of ‘Turbo’ on Ps2 and the Turbo speed default on DC and Arcade?

7)Assist Delay: c.lk, clk, rocket punch with magneto + sentinel. there’s a lag.

8)Inferior Graphics: Ps2 ver missing animations present on DC/Aracade?

9)Inferior Audio: Sound effects sometimes are out of sync or lag, in addition to lacking clarity.

With all these differences it makes my wish Capcom did an arcade perfect collection for the Marvel vs Capcom series, similar to what they did with the Street fighter Alpha series, so the community could have access to an arcade perfect port of MVC2, that would be customisable through dipswitches on Ps2. For that I would gladly start a petition to Capcom. Sighs, anyone agree with me on this.

What about the Japanese or Korean versions of this? Are they any known problems with these?

and is xbox version the same as the ps2?

the xbox is the ps2 port without the MASSIVE slowdown when two sent/capcoms are there, without the buggy music, and yeah… that’s it.

Hmm, looks like I’m gonna have to buy myself a dreamcast and MvC2 for it. Those 2 combined are cheaper than MvC2 on the PS2 anyways (At least on e-bay they are).

Parry, I have never been hit out of an AC/DHC (outgoing character, of course). Also, PS2 seems to encounter slowdown much more frequently than DC. On DC, it’s mostly Captain Sword that slows things down.

I’m sorry thats never happened to you, but that doesn’t change the fact that it does happen.

In my tests I have confirmed point getting caught in a AC happens in DC as well, but as I have said already, not anywhere near as much.

I think it went like this as for recommending ports for MvC2…

DC>Xbox>PS2

But if you can get your hands on either one, big + for your training.

but does anyone know if an imported japanese or korean one is the same and wont have any problems? (assuming your ps2 can play imported games of course.)

i play ps2 everyday and get hit out of AC all the time.

Btw…if you do play ps2, try switching the R1 R2 commands with eachother.

eh, i’ve never owned any other version other than PS2… any of the shit that matters will still be in the ps2. unfly, unblockable, infinites, etc. shit like mag whiffing strider doesn’t matter…it’s very trivial. the slowdown is there but is never EVER a problem to me (probably because i’m playing off of a hard drive…shit loads hella fast, especially when the versus screen comes up). if it wasn’t for the assist counter glitch, there wouldn’t be anything wrong with it. and who gives a shit about marvel music

the marvel port isn’t as good as DC, but hey, at least it doesn’t have p groove super cancels. for friendlies and casuals, there should be no problem with it.

just a quick question

can strider be otg’ed more than once in a combo ?

i was playing around in the jap ps2 version and was able to do hypergrav x tempest, cr lk , cr hk, hypergrav x tempest, cr lk , cr hk, hypergrav x tempest, cr lk , cr hk etc and it all combos :S

that works on more people than just strider, it all depends on how high they are in tempest and their size.

anyone with a brain will mash out though.
