Is the effort of playing Phoenix Wright REALLLY worth it?

I wanted to get good with Phoenix Wright, I really did. But I ran into so many problems. Getting evidence is a pain and against pesky teleporters like Wesky and Dante, why even bother? I died most of the time before I even got my 3rd piece of evidence. He’s hard enough to use due to my personal inability to get a Shoryuken motion right when I actually want to use it, but now they nerfed his invincible assist which was stupid considering how disadvantaged he is to start with…

That being said, and even though I don’t even try using him anymore, I think Wright is worth playing JUST so you can try and get that Level 3. I did a few times and man did it feel ever satisfying! I love his Level 3 SOOO much! XD

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel this way, too. I was playing a match yesterday where I could have just used Order in the Court to kill my opponent’s Vergil, but I did the Level 3 instead. It’s just gives you such a rush to watch it, and makes you think, “Man, I actually have pulled off the impossible here,” just like in Ace Attorney :stuck_out_tongue:

But…is it really worth it to put Nick on your team? To play a character that can be living liability? Well, here’s how I see it: I stink at Marvel to begin with. I’d be losing regardless of what team I was using. So I might as well get good with a character that I like and that a lot of people are, quite frankly, scared to use (for very legitimate reasons, mind you). So I keep using him because I like his gameplay and find him fun to use, just how I like to play as T.Hawk in AE2012, another character that has his share of problems.

If I ever choose to greater apply myself in the ways of Marvel 3, it will be with a solid Phoenix Wright-based team.

Exactly. I still try to do this most of the time when playing as Nick, but just like when when you play a grappler, you have to be patient. Nick is character where you have to be conscious of what’s going on all of the time everywhere. Conditioning your opponent is key to winning with him. You can’t rush down like Wesker, Vergil, or Logan. You can’t zone like Taskmaster, Dorm, or Ghost Rider. You have to use your head, and you have use it a whole lot.

I know right. It’s annoying to achieve but that level 3 is probably the most satisfying thing in the game! It feels just like when you get the case breaking evidence in the actual PW games.

I fully agree with you. I’ve been using Spider-Man since MSH not because he’s top tier (he isn’t and never has been), but because I find him fun to play. I’m not that great at Marvel either so I play characters I find fun. I had fun with PW but I ended up dropping him just because I couldn’t get used to some of his move quirks. Still, even if you play for fun like me, a careful approach with unexpected characters that nobody usually uses can net you a win (or at least a fun time against the opponent) due to sheer unpredictability alone. Playing Spidey has won me many matches for that reason alone and win or lose it’s still fun!

After playing with PW enough, I can safely say that characters with good command grabs are a lot more of a problem than characters with teleports. With teleport characters, their mix-ups usually prove to be ineffective against Maya’s shield, plus they should be stuffed out with the right assists covering you. Command grab characters, however, beat Maya’s shield and ignore assists.

What’s your team set-up, SuperSparkplug? With good assists, teleport should be easier to deal with.

You make a good point polt, i hope the whole command grab thing gets fixed, for a buff. Aka super skrull and one frame command grab wesker, wright is super fun, i cant stop using him, and i know theres alot of tech that has yet to be discovered, that Japanese dood tha won final round shined a big array of hope for other underused characters. And basically if u play your cards “wright” and get to tb mode u win,

Command grab characters are a real pain especially those with long ranged command grabs. I don’t use Maya’s shield that much against characters with strong command grabs. Instead, I hold my own ground with the landmine assist, use Maya shield sometimes or Maya :m: or :h:.

Regarding Wright being worth playing, I think that Wright is really worth playing. He can be played at competitive play** if **you got your assists right and they completely protect Wright. Wright is one of those characters that need assists to cover him while he gathers evidence. Once you enter Turnabout mode (Which isn’t that hard), the tide of the game changes. In level 3 XF, Turnabout mode Wright can seriously turn the tables. Even when the opponent is blocking, you will die and get chipped to death in a matter of seconds and one tiny mistake can be punished by Wright’s level 3, The Ace Attorney. Not much players use Wright because he’s really gimmicky. That is true. He’s not your typical LMHS-MMHS character.

Get ready to lose a lot though. However, there are some Wright players who don’t lose AS much because their team is very solid. I’m pretty sure there are some Wright players here that already do good now. I feel really solid (DON’T GET THE WRONG IDEA) with my team to be honest. I do lose because I tend to zone in trial too much forgetting that I zone just to get the opponent close to me.

I’m curious to what would be a viable PW team to play in the major tournies like EVO to use against the likes of Justin, Combofiend, etc. I’m thinking you got to have Dante, Doom, Sentinel, or Akuma since their assists seem to greatly benefit PW.

After seeing Kusoru win with his team at FRXV, I would love to see a PW team take a major in the future.

I think it’ll more boil down to how effectively you play than the tools themselves. And if the playstyle is from eastbumble fuck lol.
