Does everyone really believe this new patch will make it an AMAZING game. All the ‘pros’ seem to think so, but they could be talking shit. There are too many other good games for a third Capcom game anyway.
The past used to have at least 3 Capcom games be popular amongst tourney players so SFxT wouldn’t be impossible.
Although the thing was back then…Capcom wasn’t making any new shit. Now there’s talk of Darkstalkers 4 and Capcom vs. Capcom. Which means Capcom fans are going to look and possibly switch to other stuff depending.
It’s in a little better of a spot than TvC right now…but yeah.
I don’t think 3 Capcom games is impossible. Their was even a time when SFA3, ST and SF3 where at the same tournaments (I mean 3 games from the same franchise DAMN).
I just don’t think their should be. Tbh, there are just too many fighting games out now. Not a terrible thing but It means things like DoA and Skullgirls can get missed out which sucks.
The reason they had PR problems was because of Capcoms bullshit monetization experiment. Also the trolls created a hate echo chamber in the stream chats lol.
Mostly everything that made the game slow in the beginning is pretty much being corrected. Safe chains are now more punishable, fast recoverable health is slower, zoom on boost combos being taken out makes the game flow better, and certain characters getting walk speed buffs. Its just sad that the easy stuff was to abusable that capcom is pretty holding people’s hands to move away from week 1 lllmhh.

Well back then Guilty Gear eventually became the second biggest game in tourneys to 3rd Strike even above the other Capcom games. Just have to fight for it.
Haha, back when MvC2 was considered a mindless button masher?
Yeah, I agree. People gotta fight for their games, it’s just a shame SFxT gets so much support (when it’s already disappointed people) and other games don’t get any when they deserve it.
People only hate on SFxT for two reasons; 1. People within the FGC can’t think for themselves thus allowing stream monsters to tell them what is “hype” (which is a stupid term). Stream monsters, of which every nine out of ten don’t play fighting games AT ALL, say its bad because it doesn’t have a comeback mechanic so its a bad game. FGC in turns listens to these idiots. In short, a majority of the FGC can’t think for themselves and 2. Its just the cool thing to hate on. Everyone hates it without even giving it an honest try. Thats really it. To me, its the best fighting game of 2012 even with all of the bugs and infinites, which have been fixed. Its cool to have practical infinites in one game but when Desk finds a VERY HARD, unpractical infinite with Rufus, its a trash game. At times, the FGC makes me laugh at its hypocrisy.
yes because P4A and KOF13 don’t get support at all and didn’t have their own big tournament by Atlus not to long ago
That’s one example…
SFxT was at everything until Evo ended.
If I recall, people used to complain about sf4 and mvc3 BECAUSE they have a comeback mechanics. Little do they realize these comeback mechanics is a lot of the hype in those game. Yes x-factor seems OP but seeing a guy with a pixel of health, activate x-factor and make a comeback defeating all 3 guys is pretty hype. Same with sf4.
I feel like Capcom tried to listen to the fans and made sure there was no easy for sure comeback mechanics and now this is what they get from the fans.
Lesson learned. They will always hate EVERYTHING!
few things:
- x-factor isn’t hype as a comeback mechanic. comeback mechanics themselves aren’t inherently hype either - mvc2 was broken beyond repair but was also the hypest fighting game of all time and its only comeback mechanic was skill. now, taking that into consideration, x-factor isn’t necessarily a bad thing and nor are comeback mechanics, but they also aren’t necessarily needed. they eventually become part of the meta and people find ways to make them as “fair” as possible, but they eventually just become this big chunk added onto the game that lets the losing player have a chance at redemption which… they don’t deserve. x-factor is basically a power up super so it’s a lot easier to bait and punish, especially when it becomes predictable where people will activate (guard cancel, after doing an unsafe hyper, etc), so as far as comeback mechanics go it’s actually pretty fair. sf4 ultras, however, are just “oh, you landed this uppercut after losing for 30 seconds, here, have a huge damage bonus” which… is bad.
i realize this is all within the confines of the game and when we talk about “hype” that doesn’t really matter, but its important in illustrating why those things are unneeded. watch any old comeback video - justin vs yipes (mvc2), daigo vs justin (3s), this ridiculous thing, etc - and you’ll see just how hype a real comeback is. any mechanic that helps the losing player is just catering to scrubs. hell, when ono was first hyping up SFxT after the introduction of the gems he said they would bridge the gap between scrubs and top level players… which was when i started worrying, because that is the definition of a comeback mechanic except you just throw that shit on your character from the start and they activate under X conditions. but that’s more for my second point…
- right now, SFxT isn’t that unique. i understand the comparison to 3rd Strike from the perspective of SFxT fans - they see it as a game that nobody really understand except them, because they’re oh-so-special and everyone who hates on it is just following the crowd and not forming their own opinions. from personal experience - having followed the game from start to finish, buying the game, even downloading the DLC characters to give them their fair chance - i can say that this game is booty butt. why? it’s not unique. you know what made 3S special? the parry mechanic. it set it aside from all other games of the current generation and anyone defending their love for the game could point to that. love it or hate it, it was what the game was designed around and it was a solidifying way to give a reason why 3S was good or shit.
SFxT does not have that. there is, however, a remedy; gems. gems are what sets SFxT apart from all the other current gen games. but guess what? they’re not allowed in tournaments due to time constraints. now, im not sure if they followed through with that idea of entering in the 3 digit or w/e code to get your gems automatically, but if they have that’s a good solution to the situation. i somehow doubt they will or have since this game is designed to be shelled out to mindless consumers who just want to buy all the DLC they can get (which is mainly gems, and there’s only 9 1-digit numbers…), but if they’re generous enough to give the game that then it’s at least got it’s foot in the door now whereas before it was just kind of sitting outside in the garbage can.
- the patch is going to be … interesting. it really hinges on if gems will be allowed in tournament, because if not then it’s just going to sink right back down to the bottom of the barrel. people will realize they could just be playing SF4, MVC3, etc. that’s not to say that SFxT doesn’t have it’s own tiny bits of flavor - Tekken characters in a 2D environment, 2v2, … yeah that’s about it. the patch might help balance the game itself, but that’s not the problem that’s making everyone hate the game. yes, it’s slow as balls and you are actually rewarded more for running away than rushing down (i recognize that there are ~all these fancy combos and setups and whoah wow so much damage~ but good luck with that when red life regen is so ridunkulous and you have to actually land that combo when i can just hold back and just mash jab/tech your grabs for free), but even if you fix that it’ll just be seen as a 2v2 SF4, which just is not helping it at all.
basically, if gems are allowed in tournament for one reason or another, the patch is a plus no matter what it buffs/nerfs. for netplay warriors, the patch is just a plus, but if you really want the game to be just another netplay-only game (aka most anime games), then you’re going to have to start accepting that nobody is going to like it and everyone is going to shit on it forever. welcome to anime, capcom fans!
now, despite all this, there’s a glimmer of hope regardless of what happens: IPL. this game is going to get played whether we like it or not and top players are going to be balls deep in it for a long while. the question is: is that a good thing? does anyone in the SFxT crowd really want that to be why people start nut-hugging SFxT the way they have? nah. i really doubt they do. if i loved a game that got shitted on (which i do. RIP P4A), i wouldn’t want it to get played simply because top players want my money. that would be mad disrespectful for my game because there’d be an army of people who don’t actually enjoy the game, yet play it anyway because its tHaT hOt NeW sHiT.
very few people have their own opinion these days, which is sad. honestly, despite not liking SFxT all that much, i respect the SFxT crowd for sticking with their support for the game no matter what. there are a few guys out there who just like it because it gets shitted on which i think is just a strange hipster mentality, but those guys are few and far between. it’s nice to see people sticking to their guns and not being swayed just because top players don’t like what they play. if we can take nothing else away from SFxT, we should learn that there is still hope for the fighting game community. it’s a small glimmer, but it’s there.
after seeing 2013 in action on IPL. I’m more confident the game will gain popularity.
Now that a lot of the irrational hate has died off for SFxT we’re seeing a bit more appreciation within the games community for it. The broader community? They seem at odds with the game still, but you never know, I feel as people become further disinterested with AE they’ll turn to it eventually.
^lets hope this rumored patch for AE never comes out then
SFxT is a great game, plenty of people appreciate it for what it is despite the level of hate it gets from within the community. The SFxT forums here on SRK (which this thread is a part of, mind you) are quite active. SFxT may not be getting stream exposure, but damn, the amount of great games that don’t get streamed… SFxT isn’t dead to the people that play it. If anyone is looking at getting into it, I encourage them.
To be fair, SFXT had a ton of legitimate problems to be fair in its first run. (Jabs too stronk, Clock too Fast, Pandora being useless, etc) and the game wasn’t really fun to watch or play(But I played Paul and Ibuki so that may have been my fault lol)
But I’m sure the game will turn out fine in SFXT2013. Some people will still hate it because its “SFXT” but you can’t waste time trying to appeal to those people to be honest. However, I do not think that this game will steal too many people from AE. This whole “disinterested with AE thing” has been popular since 2011 and to be honest the game won’t be going anywhere until SF5. But that okay, SFXT needs its own solid fanbase, not people who simply play it for superficial reasons.
A lot of those problems were also due to inexperience and people playing the game like SFIV i.e, not using raw launchers to beat out short spamming, or not using alpha counters when their opponent is just feeding them meter by spamming normal strings with no chip.
A lot of people set out to hate the game on release as they wanted SFV, not what they were given, and didn’t give the game a chance to mature. Evo was a fiasco, I mean, making two people share the controller with a game three months into it’s life… of course you’ll have bad games. That doesn’t represent the game as a whole.
am I the only one who likes the 2v2 humans format?
I love coop games. I love competitive games. What I love more than those two are coop-competitive games!
I like it, but running it 3 months into a games life for a major and then bitching that it was really basic and boring is y’know… pretty dumb.
2v2 makes the game a lot harder and requires you to put in effort to practice with another human being, RNK show what’s possible with the format and mechanics though, their Cross Assault combos are great.
