Is Ryu a metahuman?

Hey does anyone know if Ryu is a metahuman? Also, I’ve been told Oro once pushed a large boulder with one finger. Is this true?

He’s not a metahuman in his world but in our world he would be a metahuman heck almost all the sf characters would be metahumans in our world.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a metahuman?

A Metahuman is what DC comics calls a Mutant(Mutant is what Marvel calls it), someone born with super powers.

I see, thanks Sano. Well in the world of comic books I guess most of the SF characters could be considered metahumans, but in the Street Fighting world they are humans dedicated to the martial arts and nothing more. Nothing in Street Fighter is really told as superhero stuff is it? It’s all about “Chi”.

No, because Ryu, Ken, etc. where not born with powers. They learned how to use Ki to give them powers. They are not Metahumans. You can make a case though, that people like Gouki and Ryu are ‘special’ since they are afflicted by the Satsui No Hadou, but I don’t think that makes them register as Metahumans in the comic book sense since even that is a result of constant fighting/training and the desire to win at all costs.

Kyo from King of Fighters on the other hand might be considered a Metahuman since he was born with the ability to weild Kusanagi flames. All beit his powers are mystical and not scientific; most Mutants/Metahumans in DC or Marvel are born with their powers that may or may not manifest at puberty (Cyclops), others get there powers from science (Hulk, Spider-Man, Flash 1, the Atom, etc. Marvel calls these people Non Mutant Super Heroes. DC calls them Metahuman sometimes, rarely. Mostly they are just Super Heroes.) People who have ‘mystical’ gifts in DC and Marvel either learned these gifts by practicing Magic (Dr. Strange, Zatana) or are not even human beings for the most part.

Just to point out since this is a fun topic and is actually… COMIC BOOK RELATED! GASP! - you can see an over simplified definition of what DC calls a Metahuman if you watch the Static Shock Cartoon. People who got their powers from the chemical explosion are called ‘Bang Babies,’ people who are born with their powers are called Metahumans.

BTW, if you are a Metahuman in DC and are a good guy the public will love you. If you are a Mutant in Marvel the public will hate you regardless of weither or not you are good or evil.

The best example of this happened in the Avengers/JLA crossover. When the Avengers went to the DC world and performed heroic deeds, the public loved them, started taking their pictures and asking for their autographs. Even though only a few of the Avengers are Mutants, they’ve never recieved this kind of love from the Marvel world, even if they are more popular than the X-Men in the eyes of the Marvel public.

In the Marvel World, when the Justice League performed heroic acts, the people acted violently towards them and started calling them “MUTIES!” This was hilarious!

Sorry for the confusion. What I wanted to know is how powerful Ryu is compared to normal people.

OK. Sagatryu answered that.

Well in the manga put out by Toguwa (sp?) a while ago, Ryu told Mike Bison that in Mike’s heyday, his punch would be 3 times more powerful than Ryu’s Hadouken. Was it 3x? Whatever it was, Mike’s punch was pretty up there compared to a chi blast. So “IRL” imagine getting hit by Mike Tyson. Yeah. Ryu’s Hadouken would hurt a little bit less.

So no, Ryu’s ability isn’t above that of what a normal human is capable of. If you call Mike Tyson human.

This is all in the universe of Masaomi Kanzaki’s SF2 Manga. In the SF Video Game World, Mike Bison’s power has not deminished. He killed one of Dhalsim’s elephant’s with one punch. No SF Mangas or Animes are official or canon, only the SF games and storylines provided by Capcom of Japan.

As for what Ryu’s Hadouken feels like when struck by it, according to Capcom of Japan (quoting TiamatRoar’s SF Plot Guide) -

“About the same temp as the human body. Feels like getting hit by a nice solid kick. Once hit by this, the damage stays for a long time.”

of course nobody in our world can survived Cyclones or attacks from a 1,500lbs Gizzly Bear.

oh and sano I also have to say that Rocky from the Rocky movies would also be a meta-human if he was in the real world because he survived blows from a punch that should have easly kill any man in one hit.

Ivan Drago is also Meta-human for have punch of over 2100lbs psi and don’t remember his exact Psi rating, but the average heavy weight boxer’s Psi rating is only 750lbs psi

Mike Tyson’s Psi rating is 900lbs Psi

I wonder which is greater Balrog killing a elephant with one punch or Cody Punching Through 50cm / 1 foot thick Solid brick wall.

the left, right and back side of a elephant is 2-3 cm thick which is not very thick compare to the brick wall cody punch through.

and here’s a thread that talks about how unrealistic the characters in rocky movies are.

Of course Sagat’s tiger shot feels like getting maul by a tiger.

a tiger is 10 to 12 times stronger than a human.

I was always under the impression that a hadouken was cool, like, minty fresh cool. Like if a hadouken hit you in the chest it would hurt, but it’d have an effect similar to a fan blowing at you while an altoid was in your mouth and you breathed through your nose.

Shinku Hadouken must feel like getting hit by 5 nice solid kicks at the same time while the Tiger cannon feels like getting mauled by 6 ferocious tigers at the same time.

All of this reminds me of the Marvel crossover endings where Cyclops and Captain America ask Ryu to join the X-Men/Avengers.

Man, could you imagine if that happend? I dont know how well Ryu would be able to hold up in the Marvel world, even the one from the VS games that can shoot that giant Hadouken beam, he just dosnt seem like he’d be powerful enough to stand up to super villians.

He might be powerful enough to stand up to the class 10 or lower super villians, but after his training with Oro he probably could stand up to Class 60 or Higer.

10 ton range or lower.

Can’t see Ryu joining a team for any extended period of time. He’d go to train and look for new opponents and stuff. Unless he had a loose affiliation, he could be a Reserve Avenger, they’ve had plenty of Reserve Members.

Ryu’s strength

So Ryu’s strength is in the Class 10 range?

There’s different ways to rate strength. In Marvel’s power ratings he’d get a four, which is the ability to lift 800 lbs to 25 tons, given the enormous boulder he lugs around in his SF3 ending. This doesn’t mean he can lug around 25 tons but we would fall in that power range. I’d say he could lift close to 1 ton as a guestimate.

EDIT: Check my post on this page for Marvel Power Ratings.
