Is my stick broken

I am having something weird happen with my stick. It is a Mad Catz TE1 for the 360. I use it on PC.

Everything works the way it should. The problem is with down on the stick. If I tap it down or do QCF motions everything is fine. But if I hold down for a second or so, when I let go, the character on screen stays down a little and then stands up. If during this period I press something else or move the stick they get up and do what I want them to. Its just annoying if I am specifically wanting to crouch for a bit and then stand up straight again. Like ducking a projectile or whatever.

It does it with all games I play.

Sounds like your ~8year old switch is getting stuck. You can disassemble it and clean it or desolder it and replace it if it’s on the pcb.

Also make sure LS/DP/RS is set to DP on the turbo panel.

If it’s not an issue with the selector switch, you could try cleaning the down switch (though as said, a replacement may be needed). If you don’t have the skills to solder, dropping a whole new tp-ma assembly in is simple.

The soldering wont be an issue. Its getting the parts. I will clean it up and see if it helps. I have tried it on the LS, DP and RS setting. IT normally stays on DP anyway. Shit, 8 years. Time flies. It has done its time I suppose then.

Thanks all.

Just change the JLF switches. They get stuck if they’re old.

I’m in SA. And bringing things in is hit or miss. I ordered some small electronic parts for a school project and got told when they arrived I have to pay VAT. Which is fare enough. VAT is 14%, they charged me 500%. And then still said I had to pay import duties. I have ordered things to come through the post office and they have been stolen out of the packaging, the packaging was then put back in the parcel and sent to me. The only safe option is waiting for friends or family to go on holiday and fetch things for me. Which isn’t very often. I will just clean the bits up and hope it lasts until I can organize something. Or perhaps just turn it into a hitbox layout with some crappy local buttons.

Sounds like a nightmare to be a gamer there. Which country?

South Africa.

Ha. If you said “ZA” I would have got it. When I read “SA” I was thinking “South America.” I know at least Brazil punishes gamers with silly taxes and tariffs on video game goods–hence that assumption.

I am surprised to hear that South Africa has similar silliness for electronic goods. WTF?

We have government who had the electricity supplier turn our power off periodically to say we were putting to much strain on the infrastructure. Which allowed them to purchase emergency coal with tax payers money. From a mine that was owned in part by themselves. And whenever an election came up they would act like they have solved the problem and have the electricity stay uninterrupted. Until after the elections when they would go right back to it. Well in a nut shell. It’s a lot more involved than that. But for almost a decade they have been doing this and it has recently come out. Sorry about the SA ZA thing. I forget South Australia uses SA as well and that the world uses ZA for us.

Wow. Sounds like corruption reigns supreme.
…And here I thought the US had the market cornered on that crap.

You have no idea man.

On top of all the corruption we have our education system getting destroyed. A quick example: We have a basic education structure that goes up to Matric. Pretty much the same as your grade 12 I believe. The pass rate has been dropping due to unqualified teachers and lazy students. Since it is somewhat crucial to have a matric to get an entry level job. And the government is trying to get more people working. They dropped the pass rate to 33% or whatever it is. Instead of improving the education and trying to motivate students. Some Unis and Colleges follow a similar pattern and are putting out doctors who know less than 50% of what they should. After the final exams happen they take the average mark and decide if the reason so many people have failed is because the test were to hard. If they find the test are to hard, they drop the pass mark. So that a certain % of the students who failed, but have the highest marks, still get to pass. Which pushes them out, with their certificates which don’t mean shit anymore. Because it makes them look good as the government to have increased the pass rate. And it is like that for everything here. If they can’t fix a problem they steal some tax money and make everything easier. The new big thing is decolonization. Which is in essence trying to remove things white people brought to the country. Such as Science as a school subject. Because as low as they drop the pass mark for that, people still can’t pass.

But whatevs. Politics be politics.

Should change the thread title to “Is my country broken?”.
