Is Mika worthy of a nerf?

I don’t think that is “taking it personally” at all.

EVERY character in SF5 is scary when they corner you, and the ones who are strongest in the corner can all corner carry very well. Ken can completely corner you from being cornered…

The same thing can be said about her 50/50’s. Every character character can mix up in some way, whether it’s a high / low, or some form of cross up. There are plenty of characters with command grabs who have plenty of other tools that Mika is lacking as well.

What makes Mika great isn’t the 50/50, it’s the resets. Mika has a lot of reset potential. The thing about resets is that an srk can eat them up as easy as anything else… This is what holds Mika back from being competitively viable. If resets are eating you up it is not usually the 50/50 as much as it is not recognizing the reset. High end players learn the other characters well enough to recognize the resets. 50/50 don’t win games any more for Mika than they do for other characters. What wins games for Mika is players who don’t know Mika’s resets.

R.Mika doesn’t need a nerf. She’s basically the Makoto of SFV. Sucky ass neutral game, that forces you to take risks other characters don’t have to in order to get in and mediocre defense. But should you manage to get in, then it’s her time to wreck shit with crazy mix ups that can quickly swing momentum into her favor.

It’s also the fact that when people suggest nerfs to what is ostensibly not a top tier character that’s all they suggest. That is to say they single out one or two moves or a specific situation that bothers them and (usually) suggest changes that would completely destroy that aspect of the character. This is basically the idiots method of “balancing” a game. A better and more productive approach is to think about what’s too good and why and if some aspect of the character is indeed too good but the character overall is not then think of how other tools in the character’s arsenal could be improved to compensate.

@“Nobus3r1 ver. 2.0” This. That’s a very sound way of balancing a character. If people want to nerf the moves that allows her mix up game to be so effective. Then she must be given tools to allow her to be effective in the neutral or she’ll be complete trash. I don’t get how people can take issue with R.Mika but where just fine with SSFIV ad Ultra Makoto, who game play is pretty damn similar. I think after sometime people will realize this and leave Mika alone.

If anything, her neutral game needs a buff.

For a char that has by far the best “vortex” in the game she has some pretty solid buttons and footsies too.Pretty sure she’ll get nerfed. Chars with no reversals get raped way too hard and even the ones with can be baited easily for massive damage/stun since no FADC ect. The amount of effort and guessing her opponents need to put in just to defend is too much.In SF4 char like her would 100% balanced but SF5 is different game.

What exactly is meant by “weak neutral”? Is this the same character that can get almost full screen corner carry from one hit confirm that is also safe on block? People don’t hate Mika because she’s scary in the corner. they hate her because she’s one hit confirm away from getting you into her vortex regardless of your positioning, and that hit confirm is also safe on block so it carries no more risk than anything else for a huge reward. The narrative that Mika has to work to get someone is the corner is blatantly not true compared to any of the other grapplers. Does she need nerfs? Probably not, you can deal with her, it’s just not fun at all.

I agree that it’s not hard at all for her to push the opponent to the corner. I find it so much harder to keep them there though. Even harder when they got some kind of invincible reversal, which’s quite common place.

Weak neutral has nothing to do with corner carry. Mika certainly can put you in the corner from most points on the arena. She has to hit you to do this, and most of her attacks are more prone than other characters. You cannot compare Mika’s neutral to M.Bison, Ryu, Nash, or Chun.

Mika isn’t all that good. She’s serviceable and can win with some randomness. What would you nerf about her? If you nerfed her she’d just disappear into oblivion. She was already nerfed really hard after beta 2. Hell she has 950 hp still for some reason. I think she lingers right in the ranks of the lower mid tier, 9-14th best character in the game.

I took her to about 7000 lp in ranked, back when 7000 was actually semi decent in February and March, then I dropped her because I was tired of her bullshit.

I now play Necalli and Karin. Also I’d welcome some sort of Mika vortex nerf if it meant an improvement in other areas for her. Because that would make her so much better. Hell her corner shit isn’t even that good! But hey lets pretend it is. Someone neutral jumps your command grab, it’s gonna hurt way more than the command grab would have. If I have you in the corner with Necalli, you’re in much more danger than with Mika. You don’t get to guess your way out when I have you there with Necalli…you just lose.

Is the OP worthy of a nerf? Hell yeah, I’ll take his girl too.

To the original post…

I honestly don’t feel like R.Mika is stronger than most of the cast… and there is absolutely no need to nerf her at all. However, I don’t feel like she needs any kind of buffs either. I hope it is a good long time before any major changes like nerfs/buffs happen to any character because the game is still pretty new. So far I notice a lot of players that just totally lack a good ground game and jump way too often. Terrible jump-in decisions, lack of blocking and defense, bad use of normals, bad use of reversals, random special usage… these are all elements of a behavior pattern that totally deserves to have to face Mika’s punishment and mix-ups. Once players begin to control themselves and their actions while playing, they may start to notice that their character is quite strong in their match-up with R.Mika (depending on their choice of character of course).

Here are some characters that I think can be strong against R.Mika ; Karin, Ryu, Ken, Nash, Guile, F.A.N.G., and Chun-Li. I feel she has pretty close to even match-ups with other grapplers in the cast. I haven’t really played many Rashid users and have yet to play against a really solid Rashid user…though I think R.Mika vs Rashid may be a Rashid favored fight. I call her fights with Dictator and Claw in Mika’s favor.

All in all, I think R.Mika is a very solid and strong character…strong enough she shouldn’t need buffs. However I do not feel like she has anything that is unfair or should require ‘nerfing.’ In comparison to capabilities of the rest of the cast, there is no reason to take anything from her or give her anything.

Yep, she needs nerfs, she has too much of an easy time getting in for a character where it is incredibly rewarding to be in, doesn’t really make sense and isn’t very balanced.

If you’re getting in that easily with Mika, you’re not playing strong enough people.

She needs a buff if anything.

I almost feel like Mika was an accident, and she was meant to be more like Laura. Honestly as a Laura player I feel the matchup against Mika is a crapshoot. 10-0 depending on who’s playing who. Considering both have non-existent reversals and are vulnerable to the vortex/mixup game…I’m not sure how she should be nerfed. I’m not even sure if its the mixup itself that is broken or the damage. If anything you could just nerf her damage or throw range. Make her range the same as Laura and that might actually allow people to escape said mixup. Shes in a good place in regards to her moveset properties otherwise though so I dunno.

For God’s sake Capcom, don’t touch my girl! She’s too funny to get raped as you did with Makoto in Ultra.

Mika needs buffs. Her EX Wingless should be invincible from frame 1, her EX peach should have armor on frame 1 (I think that should be a universal change to armor moves), and she should be able to cancel into her v-skill from normals.

Also make the projectile invul on her HP start sooner, its pointless as it is.

Nerf this ho into the ground
