i have the arcade version of super turbo(stand up dynamo cab, etc) and i have been playing that alot lately. i’ve noticed in the arcade game that the speed varies slightly sometimes. but for the most part, on speed setting 2, which should be equal to the standard speed of HDR, that HDR feels quite a bit faster. has anyone else noticed this? i find on my cab that it is ALOT easier to land difficult combos.
I’ve heard the opposite quite a bit actually, but is your version of ST American or Japanese?
american. it is set on default speed setting #2. it was my understanding that HDR’s speed of 3, was equal to american speed 2, and japanese speed 3.
The speeds are differnt, at Evo many people had to adjust to the ST 3 on 3. Many people were just a little bit off.
As far as I can tell, the speeds differ slightly within HDR itself, depending on how you play it. It goes like this:
Fastest: XBox Online - speed 3
Slower: XBox Offline - speed 3
Slowest: PS3 Offline - speed 3
- Not sure how PS3 Online ranks…but speed is the least of your worries if you’re playing that.
The speed being different between online and offline didn’t surprise me too much, although I would’ve expected online to be slower, not faster. But I was surprised when I played at tourneys on PS3 and it felt slower.
I did a test a while back and recorded Ken and Ryu just sitting there on the same stage on both XBox and PS3. At the time, the results confused me. The overall length of the match was slightly different, but the length of a single round(“Round 1 Fight!” to “Draw Game”) was exactly the same speed. So, at the time, I chalked it up to me being crazy.
Since then, I’ve played on the PS3 a bit more(Evo, Devastation, and practice for those). My current theory is that the PS3 gets slower when you actually do moves. I’m not sure if it’s the moves themselves, the effects, or what. But it’s the only thing that makes sense. Because it does feel markedly slower on PS3. I’ve been too lazy to figure out how to test this, but I’m pretty sure it’s the case.
As for being a different speed than ST arcade? Probably. I think Zass did some tests a while back and the speed wasn’t even consistent between Jap and US ST boards. My guess is that XBox offline is probably the closest match to whatever rom it’s running internally. But who knows.
The bottom line is that if you go to a tournament, you should always try to practice on the same version they’re using if you can.
most of the ryu’s combos like crouching mk xx super and fierce xx super are easier for me in vanilla st because the new easier motions give me a dragon punch more time than not.
as for speed i dont know.
Truth, this was huge for me. I felt comfortable on the PS3 (offline) by the time we got to Devastation.
Why did you post in this thread again?
This has got to be tested by someone. :wasted:
