Someone that I know keeps saying that the only reason I am doing good in SSF4 ae is because I pick characters with a DP. Im not really sure if I agree with cody’s heavy ruffian being a “DP” simply because it comes out way to late, using it as a wake up is not a good idea, and you could get grabbed out of it. Let me know, is it considered a dp? Edit What makes a dp a dp anyways, invulnerable on wakeup i suppose?

Being an uppercut, usually. Doesn’t have to have invincible frames, although that usually means it’s a bad DP.
it takes skill to use a dp, who ever is complaining about you using DP is just a scrub that want to jump in on you for free and not get punished for reckless gameplay
A DP is a rising anti air special attack. Heavy ruffian is not a DP.
DP is an uppercut like others have pointed out, and it doesn’t always has full invincibility.
Cody his only usefull reversals that are invincible are his EX Zonk, and both his Ultra’s. His hk ruffian is only usefull as an anti-air and for fadc combos. Even as an anti-air it isn’t that great because it will trade alot of time with jump-ins and you have to perform it early if you want to beat jump-ins clean. The move has one of, if not the longest recovery frames of all the specials in the entire game, it also doesn’t hit crouchers and has no invincibility at all, it will get beaten by any meaty attack. It is not used as a reversal at all. If you hit someone clean with it as an anti-air you more than likely can follow up with mk ruffian, ex ruffian and ex criminal upper(corner). The payoff is nice if you hit it.
Ask him to use Cody his hk ruffian in situation where you normally would use a dp, he’ll be sorely dissapointed.
criminal upper can beat some jump ins if don early, but it is very strict and dosn’t do much damage because only the last couple of hits connect. If you haven’t tried it yet, crouching MK is a great anti-air

Not sure why I am bothering to respond to an obvious no-nothing troll, buy hey you called yourself a scrub, not me. Just mashing a DP isn’t using it correctly. It dosn’t take long to notice when you have a masher and if you haven’t learned to bait out DP’s from mashers YorKeY, why are you playing this game? Knowing when and when not to use a DP is what takes the skill. And stop spreading misinformation. 3 frame uppercuts can be safe jumped, it is just harder. SInce we are takling about cody here he needs the knife to safejump3f uppercuts.

I’m just saying Shoryukn is godlike and the fact that this game has autoblock makes it even stronger… sure there are safe jumps for it but the timing is strict as fudge or they are not " true safe jumps" and are more just for baiting… you CANNOT hit Ryu in front with a meaty safejump attack and recover before the shoryuken… you pretty much have to delay tech. Maybe corner unblockables will force shotos to block though. outb4 pointless argument
