they didnt technically announce the games but i do believe on the tougeki site they mentioned a “tougeki 2nd round” or something like that for sure, so we just gotta wait and be patient, especially considering 3s (last i checked) was on the top 10 list of most played arcade games in Japan…just gotta keep our fingers crossed
It’d be stupidly sick if they did have Tougeki 2nd round, especially with the team that west coast would send for 3S.
I agree almost completely. The current mindset of the US scene is pretty lame. How can people really love a game that hasn’t even been around for a year in most cases. There’s no loyalty or sense of overcoming things or learning new stuff. Just wait till Capcom releases a patch or a new version and start over again.
In the words of Alex, ‘Weak.’
I think that 3SOE will be at EVO next year, the real question is whether it will be a simple side panel for casual and exhibition tournaments or whether it would take the place of some game along the main streams. I think that either possibility is up to (1) sales and (2) how the sales convert into serious competitive gaming at this point with the new players.
My guess is that it depends on how well the newer community takes to the game. If enough pick up the game and play competitively to guarantee a good attendance at Evo, I’m sure it’ll have a shot. Here’s the thing, though: with Street Fighter X Tekken on the way, that adds another title to an already-packed Evo: SSF4:AE2012, UMvC3, SFxT, MK9, BBCS2, Tekken. The five games we had this year packed the streams completely. SFxT is likely to be the #3 game, I’d say. If we see 3rd Strike, I’m sure it’d be a second stream game, but either way, I’d be all for it.
If MK9 lasts more than a single year at EVO, I will vomit with rage. God that game is stupid.
The “every game sucks but the one I play” attitude is annoying. Is it really that hard to believe people can enjoy games you don’t?
One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure.
I don’t know play much MK, but I felt that MK9’s showing at Evo proved that it deserves an annual spot.
I hope they bring it back, but given the amount of effort poured into the 3S exhibition (read: not a whole lot) and the morphed perspective of people who think it’s still all chun, yun and ken all the time, probably including some of the decision makers at EVO, probably make it fairly unlikely. If only they’d do it as a character locked/must all have different characters 3v3 tournament SBO style, they’d get loads more variation and having a team event as a main event as opposed to always playing second fiddle to singles would be a nice change of pace for evo.
Exactly. I don’t play MK, but I sure as hell support it, along with every other fighter that was at EVO this year. They all brought hype even if people won’t admit it. I loved the BlazBlue finals. Tekken was fun to watch even though it was a Bob/Law mirror the whole time. MK had the crowd go nuts. MvC3 was invigorating to watch. SSF4 was just hype as fuck. I feel that if people will play, bring it. Tekken did have a low number along with BlazBlue but I feel they should stay.
That’s not the attitude I have at all, though, and you’re getting offended over words you put in my mouth.
I watched BlazBlue, I watched MvC3, and I watched AE. I enjoyed watching all of them, even though I don’t play any of them except AE, which I only play extremely casually. I also watched Tekken and MK9, and they were boring as hell. It has nothing to do with whether I play them or not, they’re just not exciting games to watch, and don’t really have a place at a heavily spectated event, IMO.
I personally found MK to be highly entertaining to watch and I know many others that feel the same.
I respect all fighters (with less respect for MvC3). I play(ed) Blazblue up until CS2 and I had a kinda decent Hakumen. I play AE from time to time keeping my ‘skills’ sharp. I watched all of Evo (except for most of MvC3 and MK9). Watching Tekken is boring until the match (or round) is winding down and it all comes down to one hit and they’re looking for whatever they can get. MK9 is just boring to watch because everything happens so fast. And not like MvC2 crazy, frenetic, hype fast. Just… it’s weird. The game just doesn’t feel right to watch. The finals were kinda dope, though.
I don’t know. This is obviously my opinion on things and I think every game that was at Evo deserved to be there, but those two just don’t build the level of hype outside of their communities. Blazblue got knocked for a long time for being too basic. Tekken gets knocked for being a spacing into jugglefest. Mortal Kombat gets knocked for being… silly. Street Fighter and MvC3 get everyone hype in general because of what they are. 3S only gets us hype and only when played well.
Pretty much all the Top 8s except Tekken were fun to watch. They all had at least some type of diversity and the crowd was really into them.
I’d really like to see OE at Evo again, but seriously they sure do know how to kill hype for the game. Years of practice I guess, heh.
But the game hasn’t even been out yet, so all I can say is that hopefully people will catch on and some of the regionals will have 3S back up. I’d love for it to bounce back, especially now that things are way more different than 2004-2008 and 3S will hopefully be good online. I dunno, I’m trying to at least maintain SOME level of positive thinking here. heh
I know that the NW scene is having our regional major that will have 3SOE in it. I hope I’m not the only person that enters. Nothing would be worse than getting bye’d all the way to the title. lol.
This. If it wasn’t for Latif playing the role of giant killer, I would have said that MK was my favorite of the finals, and I’m no more than a very casual MK player.
Seriously. I lol whenever someone on SRK gets on a roll about how ***every game ***other than the one they play and/or happen to be good at is “braindead”. Yup. Suuuuuuuure.
3rd strike is the best. all other games suck.
winter tougeki for 3rd strike. hopefully there can be another major to hold 3rd strike online next year besides evo. evo is all about new games and even if 3rd strike was picked its gonna get 8am finals or whatever. maybe like NEC or final round can hold a really sick 3rd strike event.
Is there really a “Winter Tougeki” for 3rd Strike? How do we confirm this - link?
You know I’m gonna be their, already got the days off from Job Corp lined up. Might even run a side tourney or two if I have the time.
