Ironman Rushdown help

My ironman rushdown is mad slow. I can’t even land IM’s laucher on any non-scrub. If I trip em they roll out. Need tips on improving my ironman game.

IM isn’t exactly a character with a good rush. I wouldn’t recommend rushing with him unless you’re a 100% certain that IM won’t be punished for it. Tri-jump after your opponent blocks your assist, for example. Don’t trip with IM because your opponent will just roll. Instead, go for a launcher and set the infinite up using this: launch, sj., s.j. down + fierce, airdash down/forward, sj. short, sj. forward, sj. up + fierce, land, [j. jab, j. strong, j. forward, j. up + fierce], land, repeat brackets. There’s threads under this that clarify the infinite.

To improve your IM, start out by learning his air combos, basic infinite, and inifinite set-ups. Mix his keepaway and rush up. Play methodically, too. Use throws to your advantage. If you throw him at the corner, you can follow up with an infinite set-up. Guardbreaks are important as well. Basic one is j. up + fierce as he comes in, land, basic jumping infinite. There’s a lot of good matches with IM in them at forgo.net. You can get a good idea of how IM should be played effectively.

I know the infinite and I can punish people big time if I get the launcher. But the problem is that IM’s launcher is so close and slow recovery so you can’t whiff it like magneto or storm can. If your opponent blocks it then they can combo u big time. The trip gives you a little time to make sure you landed the hit and can continue with the combo. The c.mp is an alternative to the trip but the horizontal range is quite bad compared to c.mk and the timing has to be more precise to link it to the infinite.

IM’s trijump lk is just TOO easy to block, and almost everything else loses to anyone holding down/back. One alternative to trijumps, though, is using a normal jump j.lk as soon as you leave the ground as an instant overhead-- coupled with the right assist it can lead to an infinite pretty easily. The big downfall of course is that it leaves IM and your assist wide open if they block high:bluu:. It’s probably safest with Doom AAA, but still should be used sparingly since it’s pretty easy to punish.

But yeah , rushdown IM sucks… he needs to land random hits to win, which depends more on your opponent than your rushdown skills, unfortunately.

Timing is a bitch and you gotta be really quick. Excellent combo to learn.

You can also AD forward after a sj short - for a (high attack) crossover, and if that hits…use an inf setup.

Pretty safe if blocked, and you can plant an assist before you try this mixup. It’ll leave your opponent between IM and an assist, allowing IM to rushdown…and it’s also a “2-hit, high attack, cross over.”

Whoa-- I didn’t know IM’s sj.lk came out fast enough to connect on a crounching opponent. Sounds pretty hard, but like you said I’m sure it’d be worthwhile to learn. I’d been trying all sorts of stuff trying to make the normal jump lk instant overhead safe, like dropping smartbombs to cover my assist if blocked, but nothing really made it safe enough to use regularly…

Who else do you use with IM? Sent? If you use sent and you wiff the shk, just do the standing hk with sent drones assist to block you if you miss it. I think that should work.
When i play IM with sent drones assist, i usually call out drones, then try to mix it up with some tri jumps. If they block high, they will think you are going to attack low next, so do a very quick tri jump and attack with lk, like you would with magnus. Call drones, then try to attack with lk, into launch, if they block either dash in again with another LK cause they will probably think you will be attacking high next so you will catch them off guard. Or if they block low, try to quickly tri jump and catch them with a lk.
You just have to try to think what they are going to do next. Usually, if you jump in the air people will block high then low and vice verca. So knowing that, if the already blocked high and they will block low, try to attack high again.
-NOTE- If you are not 100% confident if connecting a tri jump sj.lk,sj.mk(land), dash in, lk, launch, up+hp, dash backward, lp, up+hp, infinite. Then what i would suggest doing sj,lk, sj,mk, (land), dash in(or if you are close enough you dont have to dash), lk, cmp, proton cannon.

Can someone give me the lowdown on IM + psylock? I was in practice mode yesterday trying a bunch of stuff and I noticed that almost any random ironman hit on a grounded opponent gets comboed into psylock for a free infinite. I don’t really use psylock cuz thats not my style (i prefer sent). Need someone to weigh in the options of replacing sent with psylock. example:

sentinel magneto ironman --> magneto ironman psylock
ironman sentinel cable --> ironman cable psylock
storm sentinel ironman --> storm ironman psylock

Well if you replace sent with psy, then you dont have a shield to hide behind and prioritize with. But if you use psy instead of sent, any hit with psy(as long as you are close) is an automatic infinite. If you use psy, while you are doing the standard infinite, just hit the psy assist button when you do up+hp and psy will hit and you can do a mid screen proton cannon.

what is Ironman’s infinit on standing sent?

Hey well I got this inf but after like two or three reps u get pushed away slowly, but it works.

[sj.lk ,addf ( airdash down foward), lk , down+fp.] repeat brackets.

Also there is this other inf that works on cable. Goes like this .

[sj.lk, addf,lk,lk] repeat brackets. I’ve gotten like round 12 hits but I get pushed away slowly, guess I just have to mess with the airdash more. don’t know if this inf is known if not then I take full cred.

Oh ur prolly wondering how ur going to land the sj lk. Well since it is an instant overhead, just do like a c.lk to get them to block low , mix it up with an assist then superjump with lk. u have to do the lk as soon as u superjump so it can hit.
