I got it by practicing the combos as lk, dwn+cr.mp…
If you memorize the combo as you only tapping dwn but never holding it… the sjc is near automatic it seems. That’s just what helped me anyways.
Also the unfly setup is even easier… even if your terrible at unfly. cr.mp, fly, flying lk, flying u+hp, unfly, u+hp(on the way down), start infinite…
I’d side with beats tho and say you can learn a lot about IM before you get all the inf setups down. Hell he’s got non-infinite options for ground combo to 90+ dmg… and air combo to 80ish dmg. I didn’t add any infinite or unfly setups to my IM til just a couple years ago. Definitely a lot more you can work on other than cr.mp sjc setup…
Douche’s will always spam sent, cable, storm, magz vs low tier and then talk shit. Get used to that. Just take the time to learn the game right and in time they will lose to your low tier squads.
that’s not exactly what I meant. I was saying he can learn a lot about IM and learn many other infinite setups without using the cr.mp. that’s how I did it.
you’ll eventually want to learn the cr.mp setup though…there’s an alternative in every situation to get into infinite without using cr.mp…but cr.mp might help in some specific and high pressure situations for hit confirming.
ur right. I just think that until you reach a certain level of mahvelness… it’s easiest to learn a heck of a lot about IM before all that stuff. Infinites are what people focus on but IM is more. Like how I learned to unfly… was by practicing all his air combo options til I could do a 20+ hitter. Then when I went to add unfly… I didn’t even have to learn anything. Just apply it after reading a bit. It was a natural step.
To be honest with you, you need to forget about the infinites and just learn how to play with IM (if thats your main right now). Learn ground & air combos, learn how to keep IM mobile and keep him from getting “stiff” in a match and learn how to defend high & low. These are more important things to learn since you said youre completely new to the game. So I would advise getting all of that stuff down first, then move on to his infinites. In trying to learn his infinites and all, youre kinda going backwards, learn other aspects of his game (or any character FTM). You will realize that IM infinite in a actual match is not that easy to connect, especially if youre playing decent competition. Look up tutorial vids on IM gameplay on Youtube or just read some old threads about IM strategy. This will help you establish a nice IM to work with, then inevitably the infinites will come…
Quick question. Which is better? c.lp/lk, c.mp, launch - or c.lp/lk, launch? In other words, should the mini launcher (c.mp) only be used in case of a Proton Cannon?
I prefer cr.lk, launch because the setup can do more damage.
cr.lk, cr.mp, launch is just safer as a hit confirm. (if you see them go up from getting hit, launch)
but for example if you hit confirmed before the short (like a falling down lk, mk) you should then be able to go for cr.lk, launch. you would also never want to do cr.lk, cr.mp, launch after a falling down lk, mk, because the only setup that works after the cr.mp (n.fierce or d.fierce) would cause flying screen then. unless on sentinel. so if flying screen is an issue, then you either need to do cr.lk, launch, upFP setup or cr.lk ,cr.mp sjc setup.
My IronMan is decent, but I tend to get beat fairly easy (to my standards) most of the time when I have him in. This is mainly on the stick when I use combofiend. I dont really use IM that much at the arcades, and its apparent that I need help with his combos on stick. His unfly combos are a bitch on stick, cause I cant get the timing down. And that flaw has ruined my appeal in playing with him, can anyone give me tips on how to execute his unfly combos on stick? Hes one of my MvC2 projects right now and I would appreciate ANY help, from ANYONE…
atleast you can use magneto , i dont want to end up using magneto but its like this game forces you to use the high tiers
im pretty close to quitting too i just keep losing
Sentinel’s arguably the best character in the game. He’s sure as hell a better character than Magneto.
However, that being said…your team (which I would recommend being played as IM <B> | Sentinel <Y> | Doom <B> ), on character-selection alone, is weak to Cable. All 3 of the characters on your team, match-up wise, lose to Cable. IM has the best chance, but that depends a lot on what Cable has backing him up (i.e. his team/assists). So unless you hit and kill him early, expect an uphill battle.
Also, S/D isn’t easy to play, let alone learn the game w/. I recommend learning them later.
As for MSP, you don’t have an AAA (Doom’s really doesn’t count). Magneto has nothing to fear when he’s trying to, or gets, in.
The solution I recommend that would remedy all of the before-mentioned problems…substitute Doom <B> for Cable <B>. That’ll at least give you Cable to fight other Cable’s w/, and his AAA is actually pretty decent.
However, if you don’t want to do that…well, jus’ keep practicing and stick w/ it. You’ll need to improve to the point where the skill difference is bigger than the match-up/character disadvantages.
I would play low tier… from your frustration level it seems likke improving your def… general patterns n timing would help. If your opp won’t stop picking gods and u can’t learn before u lose… find someone else to play with.
This game is natural for some… others will need to play a lot of casuals… low tier… and variety to start getting it at a higher lvl. I was in the second group.
Yo, sorry for not accepting your invites to play. The reason I don’t accept is ‘cuz I’m too lazy and don’t want to concentrate that hard. I’d have to play HELLA hard jus’ to be able to keep up w/ you. Maybe if I feel like I’m on my game some random day, I’ll jump in…:bgrin:.
But my brother said he’ll play w/ you if you send a request while he’s the one playing…so I guess jus’ keep sending’em and hope to get lucky .

P.S. I’ve been hella bored lately and am very much considering making a massive IM post to dump all my knowledge. It’ll basically be an updated version of my post from v-o.com in 2004. Thoughts?
that would be awesome. I know tech master has been thinking of a v.2 of this thread with more/more up to date info/vids. I’ve been thinking of a v2 too. maybe your info would be good for the 1st posts or so of that thread too?
Yeah, I actually re-posted my v-o post somewhere. I think it’s in the other thread. But I’ll jus’ post it somewhere and figure out the rest after, LOL.
Oh, and what I said to mixup goes for you too, LOL. I jus’ don’t wanna concentrate that hard . Sorry.

P.S. I heard you and Hugo owned Tony over PSN . He told me Hugo’s better than before and you’re trying trying new IM shit out on’em. He also said he’s having trouble ROM-ing on the PS3, which goes w/ something I read about the combo timing on PS3 is funky. That true for you at all?
lol. I don’t play on PS3 (cause it’s really jank) and tonyK kept telling me how hugo was all of a sudden godlike! I was doubtful :P. we finally all got together on there. tonyK’s connection is awful, and hugo plays on wireless (smh). hugo just knows a buncha more resets/rush down tricks…that’s all…and with the bad connection for tonyK…tony gets raped . I beat hugo first time with reverse CFiend (my sent SUCKS) but eventually he gets me with just a buncha super laggy resets next game (trust me, PS3 is BAD). I just pick MIP and outzone xx 300% him the rest of the games.
like…tonyK has trouble with my awful sent sometimes…that’s just how bad PS3 is…for us at least. offline it still feels wrong…but since tonyK can at least see a bit better/execute he doesn’t do nearly as bad.
and yeah, I have a few new IM resets. show 'em off here and there. they are pretty cool (like the one I pulled off on Jwong at SB4)! I pulled one off on GLB at FF2 the newest few I came up with are real funky. though it actually turns a negative that happens to IM into a positive…hehe
yeah, it’s really hard for me to combo on PS3…offline or online : /. so tonyK’s simple caveman play of team scrub/thrax owns me even worse (he doesn’t even bother with MSP on PS3…if he does, he plays them REAL CAVEMAN like)
Considering we rarely play or even see each other…let’s hear 'bout some of these resets . I personally almost never reset w/ IM, but I am curious.
Better practice up, since that’s what EVO’s gonna play it on.
