Iron Body - Zangief General

I think Zangief is like, amazing in this game. He has such great fucking pokes man. Hes… Amazing!! =)

Gief is really fun and strong (and easy on the execution imo lol). Feels more like SF4 with all these combos, great special moves, and overall insane damage.

Does anyone have the guide and is willing to post the Gief frame data? I want to know what exactly is perfect for tick throws, what is a safe string, GH frames, etc.

Are there shortcuts for Zangief’s 360 motions? It seems like I can do a half circle in either direction and the moves come out…

half circle forward, up-forward +p works. As does half circle back, up-back +p.

In numpad notation: 632147p or 412369p.

Yo, you can buffer sweep from MP and MK and it works just like buffering EX GH from a light. It’s pretty sick in footsies, and I’m finding myself using st.MK more. It seems better, but it may be because people don’t know how to punish it yet. But I know it’s good with st.MP. Already a gdlk button, and if you whiff punish something, you can get an untechable KD with sweep.

ex rbg is legit, so fast lol.

Personally, I don’t see the point in playing Zangief if his vortex has been removed, if Lariat has been nerfed and if EX Green Hand has no invincibility. He’s just no longer fun for me.

And Gief’s oki seems to still be pretty strong imo. Long kick and the lp spd are good against wakeup Roll. If you corner someone with Gief there isn’t really much they can do imo. If they try to Roll out they are getting punished hard.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but rolls are unpunishable. Capcom specifically designed this game so that there’s less of an emphasis on vortex, which is a great decision, but it just makes Gief really boring.

If the talk about Zangief’s walkspeed and footses improving are true, then Zangief got a hell of a lot more interesting.

Anyway, don’t remember Hugo’s a novelty because he’s “new”. There will be lots of people wanting to try him out because he wasn’t in SF4 and he was featured so much on the Cross Assault stream.

wow…awhile ago i got kicked by the host in the middle of a match because i was using zangief…thought it would be awhile before i started running into those “Oh Stop grabbing me! that’s cheating!” players…

Yeah you are right in hindsight. You can still make people guess out of Rolls though.

As for him getting more boring, well I guess that is all on your personal definition. I find footsies to be the most interesting and skill dependent facet of Street fighter and I am of the opinion that people that rely on vortexes or ‘gimmicks’ as opposed to solid play are frauds. No vortex sucks, but the rest of the buffs are really great for Gief. The Walkspeed especially imo.

Yup zangiefs much more about normals now, and pushing them into the corner. Thankfully his normals are godlike and his walk speed is improved.

2 tidbits I found:

Zangief’s Super has LONGER range than his jab spd, for example if they are cornered and you do a short to mp chain and they block, u do a super and they can’t jump out. If you jab SPD or EX spd it will not reach them.

Also Zangief’s super has 1 hit of armor if u do it far away and makes him run. It walks so fast that you can punish fireballs from slightly longer than mid screen distance. Never thought I’d be punishing fireballs with final atomic buster lol.

I no longer use Zangief’s spd for much other than wake up mixups where I’ve conditioned them to block and I SPD them. His HP SPD is freaking 9 frames start up (just got the guide today). Since his stand short is just as long as his jab spd, and it is faster (4 frames vs SPD’s 5), you will always be able to magic chain launcher them for much more damage than even HP spd. Since vortex is no longer a goal I don’t ever use 360k really (I never pressure them so hard on wake up that close to land it, once u get too close to them people will roll behind u and reset the corner positioning goal).

Oh also the maximum damage punish you can to someone who you know is about to tag out because they’re low on health. Do a jumping fierce to Roundhouse to Launcher (you’ll have to press HK+HP for the launcher since it doesn’t automatically magic chain). This is because if you magic chain MP HP Launcher the HP will do less damage (80 something) not even including scaling. Also the less hits makes your partners damage even more.

Please post the frame data if you can lol! I am so jealous, my area is all sold out :(.

What follow up are you guys using on a tag in for Gief? Right now I am using mk to Lariat, but I am sure there is more damage on the table.

Since the SPD’s have such long startup, it might be possible to create frame tight ticks by canceling an appropriate normal into SPD.

IDK the frames but non-ex green hand is definitely punishable by DPs on hit.
