iPhone/iPod Touch gaming

So I had some time to try out Sparta after this week’s patch. (I gave it a whirl day of but only for like 10 minutes).
I understand Pocket Monkey Gaming is a one-man studio and I appreciate the work he’s putting in but truth is, these controls still suck. On the Toucharcade forums people are raving about how awesome it is and how much better than ZombieVille it is. That’s pure bullshit and they are only saying that because the Sparta designer is a frequent poster on the boards.
These controls suck dick. Even after a patch dedicated to fixing them, you still sometimes move forward uncontrollably. At least it’s only for a few inches now, not indefinately. Sword button is really unresponsive at times. Your sword slashes sometimes go straight through enemies without damage. Enemies sometimes hit you from way out of normal range and it’s ridiculous. It’s frustrating to play it and I find it disgusting so many people are giving it good reviews just to not look like a douche to the guy’s face.

Edit: I found an old statement by EA that lists Iphone game IP’s for 09:
Tiger Woods
FIFA
Madden
NBA Live
Spore Creatures
Mystery Mania
Wolfenstein RPG
American Idol
Command & Conquer
SSX
Connect Four
Battleship
Need for Speed
Sims 3
RISK
Monopoly classic
Clue

I’ve already covered Clue and Wolfenstein RPG but I’m really interested in what they are going to do with Command & Conquer and SSX.

How are they gonna put NBA Live on Iphone?

Peggle on the iPhone.

It’s that shit.

I’ve decided to get some games for my iPhone. Right now I’m downloading Metal Gear Solid Touch. After that, I’m going to get at Peggle. I’m going to buy a couple more games afterward. What else is worth getting?

This will help. I’ll check back with you later today, I have some to add to the list since I made it.

Edit:
The Terminator was just released in the Apple store for $0.99. It’s a top down twin stick shooter like iDracula. Reviews on it are pretty harsh though so I won’t bother.

Good news for Sega Fans:
Sonic the Hedgehog ($5.99)

Zenonia is finally out ($5.99)
I’ve only played an hour of it but so far it’s really damn solid. You do have to get used to the controls first, and used to the fact that you don’t go through menus with touch but rather with the dpad.
But the game is great. I highly recommend it for anyone, despite the price.

I’ll try to write a bit more about it at work tomorrow.

Finally, I can get Zenonia on my ipod touch.

I got the RE game.

its actually pretty solid.
its RE4 style so its over the shoulder. Controls are fairly responsive and it kinda has auto aim for zombies making it easier. but not too easy.

has quick turn but no run =(
cut scenes are all ingame so it looks kinda outdated no voice acting and leon looks weird.

but plays like RE4 but it takes place where the Degeneration movie is.

havent gotten that far yet.

After a little more Zenonia I’m still very much enjoying the game. I do have some complaints but it’s nothing major.

  1. When your equipment breaks or when your bag is overweight, the pop up message and sound effect will appear everytime you get hit (broken equip) or walk forward (too much weight) until your repair or sell shit, it can get really annoying.
  2. Maybe it’s just me, people on other forums don’t seem to have this problem but I’m often running back to town to repair (though since I upgraded everything, I don’t have this problem much).
  3. sensitivity of dash. You often dash on accident, I dashed into traps and stuff, but the problem is dashing uses up SP.

Aside from those minor problems, very solid gameplay. Controls don’t rival a good old D-pad but for a touch-game, they are pretty damn well-tuned. It’s not so linear, your choices affect your evil/good and that changes the storyline entirely seeing as after only 1-2 hours of gameplay this associates you with different clans, giving you different quests and stuff (nice little replayability value there too).
The 3 classes are different enough in the style of play as well as their skill trees to make you want to at least try all three before making a decision but still keeping a nice solid base to not be confused.
Grammar Nazis beware, the game does have some typos and mistakes but we’re not talking Engrish or anything.
Overall I think it’s the best RPG on the system and probably the best $5.99 priced game on there. (I had to specify because Peggle is the best Iphone game and is $4.99 :P).
Final Verdict: :tup::tup:
Get it.

Quicke note:
New SHMUP was released: Glandarius Wing
I’ll try it tonight

Have you guys played tap tap? My gf and I love that game!

i just youtube’d some videos of this game after reading this. it definitely looks like the kind of game that’ll help me kill time at work. it’ll be an instant purchase on payday

Tap Tap got old quick for me. Then again any rythm based game that isn’t DDR got old quick (DDR also got old, it just took a few years).

Let me know what you think! Also which class/path you end up taking. I’m curious as to the other storyline branches.

Quick notes;
Uniwar just went down to $2.99 I haven’t played this but it was highly recommended by someone a few pages back.

Shut Up and Get Back to Work is now free for a limited time. It’s a ‘‘simon says’’ kind of game. The devs compared it to the toy Bop-It.

I gotta play Zenonia; I’ve already finished Peggle =\

I like the new 2.5 interface for Tap Tap, plus you can customize your own!

i decided to get zenonia a little early. it’s really a great game, i’m diggin it. i’ve only been playing for about half an hour, but i can tell i’m going to be playing it a lot more. right now i’m a level 8 assassin. i’m about to go to the next town.

i wasn’t used to the controls at first, but now it’s cake. the only thing i’m not really liking is the music selection, it seems like it’ll be the same tracks the entire game.

Glad you like it.
Regarding the music I didn’t notice, mostly because I play at work with no volume so my boss doens’t realize I’m playing.
By the way, as an assassin: whore your points into Agi.

I took the Warrior and decided to just headbutt motherfuckers.

I hate the dpad :frowning:

I did at first. I got used to it.

Any game with a d-pad on it sucks on the iphone/touch…I hate them…i’m going halfway through the phone to turn around from going left to right…Sonic annoyed me because of it…and V, I haven’t forgot to look for you…it was a busy week last week and I wasn’t doing anything during the holiday…I’ll try to know it out tonight…

Oh don’t worry about it, I’m not touching the firmware on my Ipod. I’m staying legit as I’ve done since the beginning. No reason to fix what ain’t broken.

Knights Onrush was submitted already to Apple, I’m eager for it to be released.

 They brought back the Street Fighter Moves applications after 4 months. Not only that but they originally released it for $0.99, now it’s. $2.99. I wonder how long until Capcom makes Apple take it down again.
